Seeing how the Rays may be swept by Detroit today makes it all the more frustrating that Tito didn't even try to win Friday nights game against the Yankees.
Many in Boston weren't happy with his rationale of "The important thing is for us to get our house in order, be healthy, and try to get everybody at-bats. But not too many."
If the Red Sox sweep the Yankees in today's doubleheader and the Rays lose, Friday night's game effort (or lack thereof) will stand out even more if they don't beat the Angels in the division series.

Let's be real. The only way one of these teams is going to win the division is by facing each other in the one game playoff. And that will probably go 19 innings and consist of nothing but unearned runs. Whoever is forced to go to an outfielder to pitch will be the first to lose. :)

To me what would stand out is how BOS got fucked out of a win by bad officiating in the 14-inning game a couple weeks back that shuld have ended when Elsbury was safe on a ground ball.
The weather up here is shitty. Resting the team is the right thing to do.

Wouldn't it have been Slowey's turn?
I think it would be Danks for us - he didn't look to great his last start either.
Yeah, Gardy said Slowey can't even pick up a ball. Maybe he is just posturing for some heroics.

I've been out 'n about since the delay and keeping up with the game through Sterling. When I got back home, it was in time to watch Joba on the mound and promptly walk and give up a ground rule double. Then Bruney comes out and gives up a run. Then Marte comes out and gives up another run. At this point, I decided that I was jinxing it and found some work around the house to do. I came back in time to see Paps get smacked around and give up a career high 3 runs. And then Mo, and his barking shoulder, comes out to get the final three. Good stuff. Too bad they didn't play this good when it mattered. Let's hope the Halos can add on to that regular season 8-1 record. :fc:

 to Mike Mussina. Love him or hate him you have to admit the guy put up a great season. Pretty much lost his job last year and he comes back to pitch like a true ace and win 20 games... at 39 years old. Cliff Lee is the Cy Young but if he wasn't around it would be hard ignore Moose.
And well, none of that happened or mattered :).

Are Yankee fans really hanging their hats on the wins of this series that did not need to be played? It isn't exactly like the beat the Red Sox's starting nine, but most of the faces I saw when I was watching were the Yankee regulars. All three games should have been like the first. This was a a workout for the Red Sox. Little more.
Chamberlain. If we want to say that the Yanks were Pedro's daddy (and they were), then the Sox are definitely Joba's daddy. He looked on the verge of tears. Show some grit.
Nice to see Mussina get his 20th. He's a classy guy and he deserves the success. That's about as nice way to close out the season for NY fans, as possible right now.
Cabrera. Twice tonight he "faked out" throwing the fans in RF the ball after a fly out. NOT classy at all. Enjoy October on the links, jerkoff.

I don't see anyone here doing any crowing about the wins. We all know they are meaningless. Still, it's nice to see Moose get 20 wins and to finally see the team playing well, even if it's far too little, too late.
As for the Red Sox being Joba's "daddy", well that's simply untrue. He's got a .186 BAA and a 2.08 ERA against the Sox. That's hardly being anyone's "daddy".

And, i'm not sure about Yanks fans that Qui Gon might know, but there was no "hanging" of any hats here - though, I and someone else wondered yesterday why Francona didn't seem to care about winning the division instead of the WC, but that was it.

The Sox own Joba? I mean, granted, Joba has plenty of games left to pitch against the Sox and it may turn out to be that way but to say that right now the Red Sox are Joba's daddy is laughable.

If the Sox beat the Yankees they would have won the division. They did not. Therefore the Yankees kept the Sox from winning the division. It has nothing to do with the Sox coasting. It's not like the Yankees were trying their hardest to win all 3 games. They only put out their A lineup for Moose.
Its not like it would be any different with the situations reversed. Playing spoiler for a rival and seeing a classy pitcher win his 20th game is a positive way to end a shitty season. Although I would have liked to see them win the second game yesterday and finish with 90 wins.

I'm glad Moose got his 20th and I am not trying to diminish the accomplishment, but it is not exactly like the Sox were playing their starting lineup. They clearly didn't care if they won or lost.
