In honor of his passing, I figured a poll of everyone's favorite Paul Newman film would be a nice idea. An actor with such a lengthy and impressive resume made it tough to whittle the list down to nine films, with several classics not represented. As always, please list your favorite if it is not among those I selected, I suspect there are plenty of other equally worthwhile films in his ouevre.

So many choices. So tough to choose. But I have to pick "The Verdict" and "The Sting" (tie). Such a classy and classic actor.

While he's had better roles in other movies, since the question is fav film, I'd have to go with The Sting. That's such a fun movie and stands up to multiple views.

I agree. I still can't believe it didn't make AFI's list.

The Sting. It's not exactly highbrow and may seem a little light when compared to the Best Picture films that surround it (French Connection, Godfather, Godfather Part II, Cuckoo's Nest), but in my book it's just about a perfect film. It's so fun and emmently re-watchable.

Young Philadelphians and Slap Shot for me.

The Sting for me.
I was thrown with the poll for a bit, since I saw Hud and thought it was suppose to be The Hudsucker Proxy (never heard of Hud before). While a great film in and of itself, I'm glad it was left off of the poll... just so that I could vote for The Sting. ;)

And of course, The Towering Inferno. :)

Butch Cassidy was actually one of my first forays into older movies and it literally blew me away. the chemistry he and Redford had was electric. i later saw "The Sting" and loved it as well. movies i never thought i would growing up, but when the body slows down i think the mind perculates for something more than popcorn blockbuster. these were indeed something more.
i have Butch, Sting, Towering Inferno, and Cool Hand Luke in my DVD que and hope to rent Color of Money. I will honor him in a glorious movie fashion.

Like many others, theres just too many to name just one. Slap Shot is an awesome comedy and sports movie. The Sting is fun and engaging no matter how many times you've seen it.
Cool Hand Luke is one of the greatest performances ever so that gets my vote.

The Towering Inferno
It may not be the best movie he was in, but it's my favorite.

Shamefully I have to admit I've never seen many of his big films.
I have The Sting and Butch/Sundance but keep putting them off. I just ordered The Verdict, The Hustler and Cool Hand Luke - all blind buys.
He's always been great though - love his performance in The Hudsucker Proxy.

Cool Hand Luke
Butch Cassidy
Sting
He just exuded charisma and likeability. When I was very young when Cool Hand Luke first came out, I think the movie was the first time I cried while watching a film.

Absence of Malice. Love that film.
I would have picked the Sting, but I love that movie more for Redford's performance than Newman's.

Hard to nail down just one. Went with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but that is probably because it is the one I've seen most recently.
