Kitna's been brutal, so this is addition by subtraction. Lions will win a couple because they have some skilled offensive players who will overcome the awful playcalling. I'm not so sure about the Chiefs, especially when LJ inevitably shuts it down with a mysterious leg injury after they start out 0-8 or so

@NY Jets (could probably take this game...if it was at home)
Steelers (don't stand a chance)
@Texans (see the Jets game)
Jaguars (don't stand a chance)
Eagles (don't stand a chance)
@Steelers (don't stand a chance)
Ravens (they'll be 0-11 at this point, maybe they'll take it)
@Colts (don't stand a chance)
Redskins (the 'Skins will be fighting NY for the NFC East title -really don't stand a chance)
@Browns (a legit shot to win this game -but likely the underachieving Browns will prove that they aren't the worst team in Ohio)
Chiefs (Chiefs will rally behind rumors of Herm Edwards getting fired)

I am still hoping the Chiefs have a shot at the #1 pick in next year's draft.Here's how the top 10 picks in next year's draft are lining up, based on the results through week 7:
1: Detroit (0-6) sos=0.475 (19-21)
2: Cincinnati (0-7) sos=0.651 (28-15)
3: Seattle (1-5) sos=0.590 (23-16)
4: Kansas City (1-5) sos=0.658 (25-13)
5: San Francisco (2-5)
6: Oakland (2-4) sos=0.487 (19-20)
7: Miami (2-4) sos=0.514 (19-18)
8: Houston (2-4) sos=0.528 (19-17)
9: Cleveland (2-4) sos=0.564 (22-17)
10: St Louis (2-4) sos=0.605 (23-15)
The draft order is based on the following tiebreakers:
1st - Winning Percentage
2nd - Strength of Schedule
3rd - (If from same division) Division Record
4th - (If from same conference) Conference Record
At each tiebreak level, a LOWER percentage wins the tie. Unresolved ties are broken by coinflip.
The following 2009 first round picks have been involved in trades:
CAROLINA to PHILADELPHIA: The Panthers traded their 2009-1st pick (plus the 43rs and 109th picks in 2008) to the Eagles for the 19th pick, used to select Jeff Otah
DALLAS to DETROIT: The Cowboys traded their 2009-1st, -3rd, and -6th picks to the Lions for Roy Williams and Detroit's 2009-7th.

Frankly, I'm hoping the Stripes tell him to stop getting 6th and 7th opinions on his elbow injury and just pack it in for the season. Even if he comes back now, the season is lost, and all he'll be doing is risking a more permanent injury. Cut your losses, Cincinnati. Sit Palmer for the year, and let Fitzgerald (in a contract year, no less) do the best he can. Worst case, you put in Palmer's little brother, or you go shopping on the wire - I hear Gus Frerotte is available.
And the streak continues for both the Lions and the Bengals.

While turning the crank to calculate Strength of Schedule (for the 2009 Draft Order post), I went ahead and updated last year's SOS/RPI spreadsheet for the 2008 season through week 7. Once week 8 is complete (after tonight's IND-TEN MNF game), I'll bring it completely up to date.
But for those interested, here were the RPI numbers going into this weekend. Note, in this spreadsheet, RPI is calculated using the NCAA model, where opponent's record is used excluding games against the team in question. This is NOT the same model the NFL uses for calculating strength of schedule, because the NFL includes ALL opponent's games. (And yes, I do it the NFL way for the draft order posts :) )

Detroit will beat Chicago this week. Mark my words. (and by mark my words, I mean only bring it up if it happens)Only off by 4 points, but that was twice the margin by which my Bengals beat the hapless Jags, so don't feel too bad.
Cincinnati's win over Jacksonville didn't hurt their draft slotting any, although it opened a sizable lead now for Detroit, who not only has a one-half game lead on the Bengals but who also has a significant advantage in weakness of schedule. The Bengals would pretty much need Detroit to win TWICE for them to pull past the Lions into first place.
There were no changes in the top 7 draft picks, and only one team (Minnesota) screwed up by winning to fall off the table.

Will Jacksonville allow another team to get their first win?
Hopefully not...

All of the top 10 teams who were playing teams outside of the top 10 lost this week, so the bad teams are consistently doing what they can to keep on keepin' on. The best move of the week belonged to Herm Edwards, whose decision to go for 2 and the loss against the 10th-ranked Chargers was key to keeping the #3 Chiefs in the hunt for the #1 spot. His move came after it was apparent that the top-ranked Lions were thoroughly tanking their game against the #9 Jags, and with the second-ranked Bengals on a bye, Kansas City could not afford a win.
Cleveland is welcomed back to the list after a 2-week hiatus... I'll bet the networks are regretting scheduling the Browns for those 6 primetime appearances now!
Here's how the top 10 fared this week:
1: Detroit lost 38-14 to Jacksonville
2: Cincinnati was on a bye

5: Oakland lost 17-6 to Carolina
6: Seattle lost 21-19 to Miami

The Bengals puckered-up and kissed their cheesesteak-flavored sister this week, which dropped them one spot in the overall standings, preserving the anticipated week 17 grand finale at home against the Chefs for the #2 draft spot. The Lions have a virtual 2-game lead on KC (due to Strength of Schedule), and I don't see the schedule having 2 games left that they can win, so I would be shocked if, in 6 weeks Detroit isn't exactly where they are right now.
5th-ranked San Francisco beat the 7th-ranked Rams, proving that on any given week, SOMEONE on the West Coast might actually figure out how to win a game, provided they play someone else who sucks. Cleveland tried to lose to Buffalo but Ryan Lindell did his best Scott Norwood impression as time expired last night, and everybody else in the top 10 found a way to blow it (even Oakland).

PS - The Stripes may be the first team to go undefeated over a three-week span (Win-Bye-Tie) and still be in the hunt for the #1 pick.

Oakland and Houston placed their 2009 first round picks at risk by winning their respective games this week, but their overall 2008 suckiness has served to protect their preferred status for the time being. Oakland win dropped them two spots, allowing St Louis and San Francisco to both percolate up one position in the process. Houston was unchanged, since they went from being the best 3-7 team in the league to the worst 4-7 team. Except for the Raider-induced shuffle in positions 4 through 6, the top 10 is unchanged.
