While I don't remember it being very good, it always got a kick out of the fact that the movie An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn actually lists the director as... Alan Smithee, after director Arthur Hill took his name off the project. Classic.

Backtrack, directed by Dennis Hopper, is supposed to be an okay film. Here's the IMDB list.

I think Hellraiser: Bloodline used Alan Smithee. It sucked, though, so don't discuss it...

Too bad "supposed to be" and "is" aren't the same. Backtrack, from what I remember, was a mess of a movie, and I doubt even the alleged 180 minute version could fix it.

I guess I meant "okay" in comparison with the other films on that list. At least it stars someone I've actually heard of.

DEATH OF A GUNFIGHTER, the very first one. Interesting story about how it became the first Smithee film, and a decent flick with an excellent lead performance.

Whoa, almost missed that one down at the bottom. Don Siegel and Richard Widmark? Sounds like a good combination to me. Is there no DVD release for this?

The extended television cut of Dune isn't on the list.

American History X would have been the best "Alan Smithee" film if Tony Kay had gotten his way.

Scent of a Woman is probably one of the best Alan Smithee movies ever (but that's just the TV version) (even though it did start the whole cheesy trend of clapping after a grand speech).

Actually, Kaye wanted the director's name to be "Humpty Dumpty".

Even though it's not a great film, or even a good film, Hellraiser: Bloodline is not too bad compared to the rest of the sequels after it.

It's on my list, and it's a personal favorite in our household.

I would love to see the director's cut of Bloodline. Some very cool stuff, like a gang of 17th century cenobites (in period clothes, powdered wigs, etc) ended up on the cutting room floor.
