Well, isn't anyone excited about this? Can't believe there's no thread on this even after a day's play already.

Honestly, I didn't even know it was this weekend until I woke up this morning. Not having Tiger in the lineup is a bit of a bummer, but looks like the crowds are still huge, regardless.

Nice to see some new faces on the team, like Anthony Kim.

Anyone?

I always enjoy this event.Only caught a bit of it after work today but i will be watching more of it this weekend.

take tiger away and the rest of the team plays so much better.

hopefully, 2010 will also be a tiger-free ryder cup.

I was going to start a thread but then I realized that I will miss all of Sunday's coverage being at the Redskins game, so I didn't bother.

Poulter/Rose 4 and 3 over Cink/Campbell. 5 1/2 to 3 1/2 USA. 3 matches left on the course, US up 2 in one and AS in the other two.

Mickelson and Kim are stinking up the course right now.

Red Dog
09-20-08, 11:48 AM
Yeah - Boobs and Kim are choking this one away.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 11:57 AM
They just caught an awful break though. That observer caused the US team to go one down.

Red Dog
09-20-08, 12:00 PM
I don't think I'd call it an awful break. It was a terrible shot, and very well might have hit the tree and gone in had that dude not been standing there.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 12:02 PM
Furyk and Perry 3 up with 4 to play.

Quake1028

What a beauty by Mahan there to save Leonard's tee shot.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 12:06 PM
Clutch putt by Phillip there.

Justin wins the hole. That was HUGE for the US team since Kim and Phil are down.

B.A.
09-20-08, 12:08 PM
Leonard on the greens = $$$$.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 12:16 PM
Holy shit what a shot by Anthony Kim!

Quake1028
09-20-08, 12:19 PM
Don't like those pairings. Stricker and Curtis should have been left off in favor of Mickelson/Kim and Mahan/Leonard.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 12:21 PM
Kim and Mickelson blow a 4 up lead and lose a sure point for the US. Now the US needs Leonard/Mahan to close this one out to keep the 3 point lead.

Red Dog
09-20-08, 12:24 PM
I'm surprised he putt that 3rd shot. That's something I would do (although it would be my 6th shot).

Quake1028
09-20-08, 12:25 PM
Justin misses a putt that could be a huge half point swing......

Quake1028
09-20-08, 12:27 PM
This looks likely to end 7 to 5 US after the morning matches, Europe makes up a full point.

I would of yesterday but my friend and I had to go somewhere and I missed day completely

Rockmjd23

I've missed most of the coverage so far. I was at the 99 Cup and it was the best sporting event I've ever been at. The last two have been unwatchable.

Rockmjd23
09-20-08, 12:55 PM
373 yard drive by Holmes! Both 2nd shots by the Americans were lousy there and Westwood's was brilliant.

Rockmjd23
09-20-08, 01:39 PM
Ben Curtis with the clutch birdie to go 1-up after a typical Sergio flubbed 6-footer.

Rockmjd23
09-20-08, 01:42 PM
Poulter/McDowell go 1 up over Perry/Furyk

Spicollidriver1
09-20-08, 03:32 PM
nice shot :(

Rockmjd23
09-20-08, 03:55 PM
Manboobs is on a run now. Good for him.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 06:01 PM
Man this is some awesome golf. Holmes and Boo win their match 2 and 1 so the lead is now 8-5 US.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 06:08 PM
Karlsson is on FIRE. This match turned around when Mahan chunked that putt in to the back of the cup and out.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 06:19 PM
Curtis misses a HUGE chance to give the US some breathing room there.

Rockmjd23
09-20-08, 06:40 PM
What a bonehead move by Curtis going for the green on 18.

Spicollidriver1
09-20-08, 06:42 PM
my thought exactly. The americans seem to be letting this thing get too close.

Rockmjd23
09-20-08, 06:43 PM
Stricker! Huge putt!

Spicollidriver1
09-20-08, 06:45 PM
That was a nice putt, and is a reminder why watching this is fun.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 06:45 PM
Casey with a ballsy putt there to halve the match.

Rockmjd23
09-20-08, 06:46 PM
Sergio is happy he didn't have to putt that.

Phil!

Red Dog
09-20-08, 06:54 PM
Weak putt by Boobs.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 06:56 PM
Phil chokes away a 1 up lead. Ugh.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 07:02 PM
Poulter with a gutsy put there. 8 1/2-6 1/2 US with one match left AS.

Rockmjd23
09-20-08, 07:15 PM
9-7 US going into the final day. US needs to win 5 and halve 1 to win the cup. Europe needs to win 7 to retain.

Quake1028
09-20-08, 07:15 PM
Karlsson finally misses one that would have given the Euros a HUGE boost and probably sealed the deal for them. 9-7, good day for the US, with all of the ups and downs they only lose 1 point overall.

Spicollidriver1
09-20-08, 08:02 PM
In a way I was rooting for him to make that putt just to add to the drama.

BadlyDrawnBoy

It's a fantastic Event.

I love it, love how its wide open. Everyone goes for it. Quite a spectacle

Come on Europe. Poulter has played very well.

holy shit! what a put by mahan!

RoyalTea
09-21-08, 04:08 PM
and then mahan blows it big time on the 18th tee. :(

Quake1028
09-21-08, 04:17 PM
10-9 now. US has comfortable leads in 2 matches. They need to find 2 1/2 points elsewhere.

Quake1028
09-21-08, 04:18 PM
Mahan chokes away a half point there -ohbfrank-.

Rockmjd23
09-21-08, 04:19 PM
What a choke by Mahan. His pt would have probably put it out of reach for Europe.

Quake1028
09-21-08, 04:23 PM
10 1/2 to 9 1/2. US has that comfy lead in 2 matches. That would make it 12 1/2 to 9 1/2. Europe leads safely in 1 match. Arghh this is tight!

Quake1028
09-21-08, 04:24 PM
Perry wins! 11 1/2 to 9 1/2. Boo has a pretty guaranteed point out there.

Rockmjd23
09-21-08, 04:25 PM
Perry wins and makes it 11 1/2 to 9 1/2.

Quake1028
09-21-08, 04:25 PM
US needs 2 more points to win (counting Boo as a win), and they hold 2 up leads in 2 matches. This is awesome.

Quake1028
09-21-08, 04:27 PM
Furyk goes 3 up!! HUGE!

Quake1028
09-21-08, 04:29 PM
US leads in 4 matches and 3 of them by at least 2 strokes !.

Rockmjd23
09-21-08, 04:44 PM
Boo Weekly gives the US another point. 12 1/2 to 9 1/2

Quake1028

RoyalTea
09-21-08, 05:42 PM
is it "classier" to concede a gimmie putt at the end? I'd rather win by sinking a putt instead of being told by my opponent that i don't have to putt at all.

although it's kind of cool to see a sport in which a handshake decides a championship.

Spicollidriver1
09-21-08, 05:53 PM
I am also both ways on this it is classy, but the reaction from the crowd was bigger when Holmes sank his putt so I am not so sure which is better.

Great day of golf by Team USA, they got it going early.
Congrats.
