Anybody know any good websites that get really deep into the meanings behind movies or the themes, basically good analysis? I was thinking about this because there are so many "review" sites out there that give short, capsule reviews, but not a whole lot that are analytical. I was watching THERE WILL BE BLOOD when I started thinking about this.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

There was a great, great Eyes Wide Shut essay that someone pasted / linked to here back in the day. I wish I had saved it.

WiidSmoker posted a good analysis of The Fountain. That can probably be found via search.

I'm not sure if it's entirely what you are looking for, but we dissect Akira Kurosawa's movies at the "Akira Kurosawa Online Film Club" at AkiraKurosawa.info (http://akirakurosawa.info/). There's a new film targeted every month, and although the last month and a half has been somewhat quiet, there has been quite some interesting discussion so far.

This guy's "observations" are interesting. I remember his analysis of The Shining being a hot topic of debate...

I like Tim Dirks's site. His movie reviews are 5-6 pages long. http://www.filmsite.org

Wonderful as well Jack Thanks! I have always loved this movie and was always very drawn to it in a deep sort of way that I never understood. I mean I understood the movie and what SK was getting at but never at this level. I REALLY need to watch this a whole bunch more!

Salon.com has a good essay on Mulholland Dr. (http://archive.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/2001/10/23/mulholland_drive_analysis/index.html) that's I like to read before and after watching the film.

Yeah, that's a very illuminating article - really helped my understanding of several aspects of the film.

Yeah, one of these days I'd like to re-type it and print it out as a homemade booklet for the DVD. It would give the people who watch the movie with me have some sort of idea of just what the hell is going on.
