Would you consider any of these Horror Classics to be overrated? Or do they all deserve the praise they get? BTW, you can vote for more than one if you feel more than one is overrated.

Elaborate? I voted for Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead. People always babble on about Romero's witty satire of consumerist culture, but I don't find a few shots of zombies stumbling aimlessly through a shopping mall to be any kind of brilliant statement on the human condition. As for Friday the 13th, it's enjoyably sleazy if you're in the right frame of mind, but I doubt if anyone would seriously affix the "classic" moniker to it.
I despise Friday The 13th, but you'd be surprised how many people consider it a horror classic on the level of Halloween, TCM, etc.

As for an actual classic that I feel to be overrated, I find Bride of Frankenstein to be pretty tedious - the attempts at humor are poorly handled and simply not funny.

I always feel a bit uncomfortable labeling any relatively recent film a classic. To me, classic horror films are titles like Nosferatu, Frankenstein, Cat People, Peeping Tom and The Haunting. No one could seriously suggest that Friday the 13th could measure up to any of those.

I don't think Friday the 13th is overrated. As mentioned before, no one refers to it as a classic. I would vote that none of the films listed are overrated...if only there was an option for that in the poll.

Elaborate?
Rosemary's Baby sucked the components of both the reproductive system (being gonads) and the endocrine system (being endocrine glands). The respective functions of these are producing sperm (spermatozoa). Producing male sex hormones that of which testosterone is the best-known. Both functions of them, sperm-forming and endocrine, are under control of gonadotropic hormones produced by the anterior pituitary.

Rosemary's Baby was an extremely well made, atmospheric little movie. Loved it when I was a kid, still do. It isn't particularly "scary" though.
That said, Friday the 13th is a terrible movie all around. It isn't overrated, it just sucks.

In what universe is Friday the 13th considered a classic? Sure it begot a lot of sequels and became a mini pop culture phenomenon, but the film itself is pedestrian and derivative at best.
Rosemary's Baby is sublime. It is part of Polanski's brilliant unofficial "apartment trilogy" along with Repulsion and The Tenant.
It's got great performances all around and atmosphere you can cut with a knife (in the water :D).

The Exorcist (about as frightening as a bag of cotton balls), A Nightmare on Elm Street, Jaws, and, to a lesser extent, Rosemary's Baby, are overrated. As others have pointed out, Friday the 13th isn't highly regarded to begin with.
In my view, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw, and The Thing are true timeless horror classics (in the pantheon alongside others like Black Christmas), while the "Dead" series is merely very good.

I think Jaws is overrated. I don't recall one time ever I been afraid, because frankly the shark looks fake as hell. It don't look real. And yeah I know it's an old movie, but there is no fear factor there.
But the last time I saw the movie on DVD I couldn't watch it all, it put me to sleep.

Interesting choice of music and a great opening kill didn't make up for everything else being mind-numbingly bad

Suspiria is not only one of the most over-rated horror movies of all time, IT ISN'T EVEN REMOTELY SCARY.

No big surprise about Friday the 13th, since most fans will agree the sequels are where it's at, but I am surprised about The Exorcist. I still think it's one of the most effective horror films ever made. The concept of demon possession is one of the few subgenres, like hauntings, that can still be genuinely frightening when done right.
c'mon that was funny. he asked me to elaborate on why i thought RB sucked testicles, so what i did see is elaborate on the definition of testicles, when really he was asking me to elaborate on my reasons for not liking RB. he left it open to elaboration interpretation. so what i did was flipped it!

I agree the concept can be frightening but I don't know anyone personally that has watched The Exorcist for the first time, not when it first came out but much later, and found it frightening.

Planet of the Apes (1968)......$5,800,000 (adjusted for 1979 = $12,126,734.09. almost 20X the budget of DOTD)

The movie has little in common with the book. Kubrick used the title and the name of the hotel and characters. That's about it. Oh and it has Jack Nicholson being, well, Jack Nicholson. Yawn.
Huge letdown of a film, when the book is such a masterpiece.
