I haven't gone Blu yet, but I'm watching from the sidelines.

One of the great things about getting in on the ground floor of a format is that you don't have to play much "catch up" grabbing things that have disappeared at retail.

Is there interest here in setting up an 'official' thread to keep track of things that are limited in some way, or have already gone out of print? This could be short-term packaging, limited store exclusives, or titles that have been discontinued.

Obviously the list would be VERY short for the first couple of years, but it'll be good to have everything in one place, so when anal completists (like me!) finally take the plunge, they know what they need to seek out in places other than the local Best Buy.

Thoughts? I'd be willing to create and maintain such a thread.

(I'd probably want to keep it to US-only items to prevent it from getting insanely complicated. A non-US thread could probably be created in the International forum.)

I think it would be interesting to learn which Universal HD-DVD titles haven't yet transitioned over to Blu-ray. I don't think any Blu-rays have gone out of print yet.

Well, I'm speaking partially out of ignorance here -- hence my thought that this may be a decent idea ;) -- but I know there's the Robocop disc that leaked out (although it never hit retail).

And I'm seeing references to 'limited edition' for (packaging?) of Batman Begins and The Hulk. And Disney has stuff coming out, so you know that'll disappear in a year or two.

 Maybe it's too early. I was just thinking that it may make sense to start, so that newbies would have a place to go if they wanted to see what had come and gone while they were not on the hunt...

I don't think anything has been released on a limited basis outside of packaging configurations like the Blade Runner briefcase. I wouldn't count something like the original version of The Fifth Element with its inferior transfer.

I believe Disney has its first "vault" title in Sleeping Beauty next month (I'm not sure about that Tinkerbell stuff).

As for Universal titles not on BD, there are probably a hundred or more of them. It will probably take a few years for them all to get released.

Oldboy is technically out of print, since Tartan USA is out of business. It's not hard to find yet, though.

Phone Booth showed up on McCarver's OOP thread a few months ago.

I thought I read somewhere the Legends of Jazz Showcase was OOP, but it can still be found easily. There were some HDnet titles that are OOP, such as the Smart Travels series.
