Hello all. I was hoping for a little input into what people think of tv's and try to finalize a choice.
i currently have a great 42" rear projection sony and am looking to upgrade to a larger (52" (+?)) tv. right now my main choices are:
Samsung LN52A650
Sony Bravia W-Series KDL-52W4100
and Sony 52XBR4/5
Are there any other tvs people might recommend in the same price range (~2000)? I have gaming and movie watching if that makes a difference, with a 360, hd addon and ps3 with blu's. # of HDMI inputs isn't overly important as i use my Onkyo 705 to switch them anyway.
I hear the XBR4/5 have some pretty serious ghosting issues and that concerns me.
Thanks Brian! i've heard great things about the Panny's - but i'm concerned 52" might be to small for my room (but the biggest i can afford) so i would be less inclined to get a 50"

my budget is around 2000, maybe up to 2500 for something thats worth it.
i'm looking at rear projections and seeing a much better value in them - are they that much worse now a days? i don't mind mine at all currently...

i have the the sony kdl-52w4100. in the past two weeks of owning it, i can tell you it plays all content quite well. i have a ps3, xbox 360, hd-dvd drive, and the hd cable box connected. i have been quite impressed. check out the thread in the avs forums on this series for more information.

If you hurry, you can get the 750 cheaper than the 650 this week. Best Buy has it on sale.

Definitely a MUCH better value.
Only reason I have an LCD is because my room is too small for a tv over 40 inches.
The samsung samsung-hl61a750 is a great deal. 61 inch LED powered DLP(meaning you won't ever have to replace a bulb).
And RPTV generally have better PQ than LCDs.

You'd take a rear projection over an actual LCD? Good lord.

uh...what?
Please explain why you think an LCD is better than an RPTV.
I can't wait to hear this.

sorry about my delay - but that argument is really what i want to hear. I know the viewing angle is much worse on the rear projection, but my room isn't very wide and i tend to watch most of my tv from the front :)

viewing angles are the only major flaw of rear projection.
RP = better blacks and motion handling than LCD.
And don't let the pq in stores fool you. For some reason...RPTVs always look like crap in stores compared to flatscreens.
RPTV's such as the sony A3000 and Samsung's LED powered DLPs will outperform most, if not all LCDs.

i was thinking the same thing. there is some really crappy lighting where they stick those rptv's, lights shining directly on / above them and such

I got the samsung 52750 lcd tv from bestbuy for about 2230.00 So far I pretty much love it but I might upgrade to the new slim samsung 52850,Just my 2 cents the sony v/w/z lines has some big problems with Sparkles. Here is the link.
