Waterworld: Extended Edition - 11/4/08
This was posted over at dvdactive this morning:
Universal Home Video has announced an extended edition of Waterworld which stars Kevin Costner and Dennis Hopper. The 2-disc release will be available to own from the 4th November, and should retail at around $19.98. Both the extended version (2 Hours 57 Minutes) and theatrical version (2 Hours 16 Minutes) will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround tracks. The only confirmed extra feature right now is the trailer. Stay tuned for further details.
A guilty pleasure for me. Seeing that they are adding 41 minutes of additional footage, this may be worth acquiring. Also, seeing that it is a two disc release, I would expect more than simply the theatrical trailer.

because that's what we needed with one of the bigger domestic gross bombs and critically panned movies of all-time...more of it!

I know Costner and Kevin Reynolds had alot of friction on the set of this masterpiece.
I don't remember much about it other than Costner drinking his own piss.
It's a maybe for me. I'll have to see a review first.

I've never seen this film in it's entirety, but, like most, I am well aware of the history of the film and that Kevin Costner drinks his own pee.
Honestly, the bits I have seen of it don't seem epically disastrous and the premise is interesting enough.
Probably going to be a rental, though.

My guess is we are getting something like this version, which I've seen and definitely adds to the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114898/alternateversions

Awesome, can't wait. This is a vastly underappreciated film. Didn't think we'd see this, but finally! Hopefully some more extras will be offered, like a commentary, but just the two cuts is fine.

I'm surprised this was framed at only 1.85:1. For better or worse, the tone of the film is epic, and I would have expected a full 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

One of the Networks aired the extended cut several years ago. It cleared up some plot holes and overall made a better movie. I look forward to seeing the extended cut without commercial interruptions. Hopefully a Blu-ray is in the near future as well.
Cable Guy: "Dry land is not a myth. I've seen it. Kevin Costner. Waterworld. I don't know what the big fuss is about. I saw that movie nine times. It rules!"

One of the local colleges is attempting to get Mr. Costner to come in and do a Q&A for its film critique class. So help me god, if he does it, I'm crashing the Q&A and asking for an apology for this and the Postman.
Why do we need an extended cut of this? Its like wanting a rerelease of The Aristocats, Gigli, or any Uwe Boll film.
