Can someone tell me if The Breed, Immortal, or The Proposition are worth blind buys?

The Proposition, one of the best westerns ever made.
The Breed so-so Wes Craven produced B-movie about killer dogs.
Immortal was shot like "300", Mostly digitital. Not the greatest film ever, but ok.

Just returned from the local Best Buy, I was there at their 10 AM opening, they had a grand total of THREE Sarah Connor steelbooks, all 3 were in the new release section, none to be found in the TV section and none in the Sci-Fi section. Anyone else find more than three?

Has anyone seen The Proposition steelbook or know if it will be available at Best Buy Canada? It's not listed on the website.

Just came back from BB and picked up the steelbook. They had about 8 copies total. An employee said that's all they had and that they wouldn't get any more.

My local BB had about 20 some copies, which is the norm for most steelbooks. Like what others have mentioned, this will likely sell out before the end of the week.

Man, evilBay sellers are going to have a field day with this.

I knew this would not take too long, someone just listed the Sarah Connor Steelbook on Ebay for $100, I am pretty sure there is going to be some wild prices on this steelbook!

I also arrived at opening and they had 6 steelbooks in the new release section. Maybe this will be a rare release. I'm happy I got up this morning for it.

FYI, the release date for this release is 9/23/08. The LE will include an artbook similar to Vol.2. Select retailers will carry the LE without the artbook including TWEC stores.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Season 1

Hmm, this is VERY interesting. I went to my usually store at lunch time and they only had five (5) copies.

1/4 of their usually release day SteelBook inventory. This could be bad for a lot of people.

YMMV.

I took all of the numbers that have been posted, except from the guy with multiple accounts, and the average number of copies per store is seven (7).

I wonder if they lowered the production run to lower the amount of inventory sitting at the stores and gathering dust?

I noticed that Future Shop removed a large number of SteelBook titles from their online store.

for those who haven't seen what the cover looks like, i removed the stickers from it and took a clear pic...this one puts me at 28 Steelbooks

Unfortunately I am without a car this week (mine is in the shop, as someone busted my window and took a brand-new laptop out of my trunk, but I digress) so I couldn't visit my local Best Buy to pick one up. Called a relative to pick one up at another store, but they said they only got three in and were all out. Luckily, I was able to have someone pick one up for me. This seems to be VERY hard to find, unlike most other Best Buy Exclusives I've seen that are at least available a few days later on.

i am shock at how little each store got i figure they all would have gotten more to push/ promote season 2....

A number had a dent in the exact same spot, so a case must've gotten banged up during shipping. Make sure to look over yours before buying.

I didn't see any on the new release shelf, and an associate happened to walk up and ask if I was finding everything. I told him I was looking for the steelbook, so he checked on the computer and found no listing and said it must be an exclusive for another store. I stated it is a BB exclusive asked where else this title might be located. He walked me to the TV shows section and found one. On my way to the register, I saw about 8 more on a stand-alone display with other new releases. Sometimes you have to really look around and cannot always take an employee's word for the availability.

Crap crap crap crap crap. I can't get to Best Buy until Thursday. I only have to work two days this week and, of course, they are today and tomorrow. Crap. I REALLY wanted this.

My Bestbuy in WI, had about twenty of the Terminator Steelbook, 10 in a front display along with some new releases, Street Kings and Prom Night. They had another 10 on the New Release wall.

For some odd reason Bestbuy is not carrying the Immortal steelbook. I went to pick up the Proposition , the "guys with the blue shirt" told me they had 4 copies in the store for $12.99, but they couldn't find any of them. So I went to Target, they had 2 copies of both Proposition and Immortal for $9.99 each.

I though that I could save a trip to the store and just have it mailed to me for an extra $1.99. I ended up returning almost every order back to the store and rebuying another store copy.

This way, it gives me an opportunity to inspect the case for any damage. I f***en hate getting damaged SteelBooks in the mail. (end or rant)

i do have to say the "Terminator: Sarah Connor..." is one of the nicer SteelBooks. the front art is really done well and i love the spine especially with the red Season 1 on top.

Yeah so do i, i much prefer buying them myself instore but this is just in case it's rare ( i know it's a huge release but i'd rather be sure to get it).

Sorry to hear both of you guys had problems with shipments. I too have had many problems with Best Buy and glad I am not alone in this matter. For a while I thought maybe my postal deliverer just hated me :?

Call corporate and complain and maybe eventually someone will listen. Because whenever you call corporate and complain enough, you might be lucky enough to get a "gift card" compensation for their error...doesn't make the problem go away, but if they lose enough $$ maybe someone will get a hint and listen?

I am not familiar with Future Shop, but maybe complaining to their corporate could help too?

And yes howwon, I agree, nothing more painful than seeing a damaged steelbook arrive in the mail :( I feel your pain...

Here is what I gathered from a Bestbuy Marketing Insider said that Warner home video contracted Bestbuy & Scanovo for 50,000 copies. IMHO, it may or may not be true
but from where Im at right now its raining numerous stocks on hand from more than 10 Bestbuy stores.

here is a cp shot from one Bestbuy store (who reportedly got like 75 in stock) as of 5:30pm today they still have 48 in stock

If the members here who thinks they are rare since the stores near them stocked up to 2 steelbook, thats you own experience..

You cant blame me thinking and believing different as all Bestbuy stores I've been at, got above 20 to 70 stocks.


My conclusion:

I think the so called "2" per store is exagerated and ridiculously misinterpreted by most steelbook follower/resellers as max per store in this week's Bestbuy Ad.

That's great news! I hope my local Best Buy is the same way. I remember with The Bourne Ultimatum and I Am Legend they had tons for weeks afterwards. In fact, they might still have one of two of each lying around. He's hoping that I'm able to get SCC tomorrow.

anyway you put it 50k is limited for an item. weather some stores are getting more than other, or they all got the same amount. at 50k just for the us thats about 1 ONE sarah steelbook per 6,000 people in the us, and your saying north america to include canada which is about 1 per 6,680

On the movies: "The Proposition" Is an very ,very good Independent Australian western with a solid cast. The film was taken very serously by the filmakers, in my oppinion it is one the best westerns ever made.

On the Steelbook: It has a flat surface, and I found the art to be supercool!


Immortal, on the film: The film was made in 2004, and its 85% CGI annimation with real life actors blended in. The film was produced by many diffrent international production companies: Medussa Films (Italy) TF1 (France) CIBY 2000 (UK). Its an ok film, nothing that you would rewatch again and again.

On the steelbook: I love the fact the title is broiled, everything else is flat surce, I personally dont think the film deserved the steelbook treatmen, but now that it has been released ill take it. :D

Here is what I gathered from a Bestbuy Marketing Insider said that Warner home video contracted Bestbuy & Scanovo for 50,000 copies. IMHO, it may or may not be true
but from where Im at right now its raining numerous stocks on hand from more than 10 Bestbuy stores.

If the members here who thinks they are rare since the stores near them stocked up to 2 steelbook, thats you own experience..

You cant blame me thinking and believing different as all Bestbuy stores I've been at, got above 20 to 70 stocks.

This brings me to 30 Steelbooks.

I was able to make it to Best Buy tonight just before closing. There were no Sarah Connor Chronicle steelbooks. Ugh. However, there curiously no regular standard definition DVDs either. And there were only three Blu-Ray copies. Is this show really that popular? I asked a woman who worked there about it. She said they may be getting in a shipment tomorrow, but she doesn't how it breaks up between steelbook, regular, and Blu-Ray. I'm hoping that they only got a partial shipment and they'll have steelbooks tomorrow. I forgot to ask when I should show up. Does anyone know when they get their shipments, how long it takes them to get everything out, and what time I should show up?

no doubt terminator steelbooks are relatively hard to find now, but is it just me? or is 50k kinda not really a smallish number?

Just returned from the local Best Buy, I was there at their 10 AM opening, they had a grand total of THREE Sarah Connor steelbooks, all 3 were in the new release section, none to be found in the TV section and none in the Sci-Fi section. Anyone else find more than three?

I waited for around for a half an hour only for him to tell me that they didn't get any and wouldn't be getting any in the future. He said they only got twelve in on release day and they went quickly.

Then I called up the next closest Best Buy, which is actually pretty far away. I talked to a sales clerk who didn't really know what she was doing. Of the words "Sarah Connor Chronicles steelbook" she couldn't remember anything past "Sarah." I basically had to explain the whole thing several times before she could figure out that there was more than one version of the DVD. She said they had them in stock and offered to put one aside for me. I asked "and this is the steelbook, right" and she replied "I don't know, but it's $22, so I'm guessing." I drive to the store, which takes about 35 minutes and it's on one of the most perilous roads in New Jersey. The customer service line is massively backed up so I go straight for the DVD section. I also picked The Propostion at Target for $9.99 but passed on Immortal because of all the negative reviews I've read.

Just a note to Canadians who order on the Futureshop website. The steelbooks seem to sell out fast but this is a bit of a deception. They put them online in groups of 30 to 50 at a time and don't put more until they sell out. So don't freak out if you can't get your Iron Man steelbook cause there are none left. It will be restocked up until the DVD is released. Also, if they go out of stock on Friday or the weekend they won't be restocked until Monday. This is how I got my Terminator steelbook. Had to wait till Monday for them to restock then got one of the last 2 online.

On another note, is Funimation re-releasing the first Black Lagoon Vol. 1 steelbook? The one that was supposed to be a limited edition? If so, this kinda makes me mad since I bought it thinking they wouldn't make any more of them.

The FYE near me also recalled a bunch of Dragon Wars steelbooks. There were like 7 sitting on the shelf for a long time, but suddenly all gone. I don't know if other FYE's also sent theirs back as well. I wonder what happens to all the recalled steelbooks? Wouldn't it be nice if they all went to a wonderful discount store for us to raid? :)

snausages, out of curiosity...why do you leave all of your steelbooks sealed? I've seen lots of people do this. For me, I want to enjoy what I purchase; by that I mean see the inside of the packaging watch the movie, etc. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) plan on selling them? Because that makes sense to keep 'em sealed, but if you have no plans for selling them it just seems like there is the potential to miss out on what you have. Just my two cents though, and I'd be interested to see what people who do not open theirs have to say on the subject.

I've actually seen most of them or have a 2nd copy already. Like bdubby, I also have a ton of DVDs sealed and unwatched as well. And then there's the collectible factor. So for me it's a bit of everything. I would have to say about 35-40% of my DVDs are still unopened ...very pathetic I know. :(

Two FYE stores in my area had the same scenario. In just about a week's difference virtualy all Dragon Wars steelbook vanished. I double checked inventory with the sales associate but unfortunately it shows 0 in their stocks.

Indy 4 and Dark Knight are getting US releases in Nov/Dec. Both are TWEC exclusives. I wouldnt doubt that Canada will get these as well at Furtureshops.

After seeing the re-release Black Lagoon, Im now agreeing with your conclusion Johnsun. It seems that all were the same as how Geneon produced and left it. The only difference is the attached UPC sticker ( I guess a funimation inventory control thing).


Regarding the 10,000 units, perhaps even with Funimation distributing, there still could be only 10,000 out there.. I have a friend who is producing a statue limited to 5000 peices, but in reality, only 1500 would actually be produced based on pre-order.. They just have the option of picking up the 3500 if sales warrent it..

To me, 10,000 is a heck of a lot of units to produce in one shot for a title in a niche market, even for a title like Hellsing..

The background light (which is a yellow lampshade) last night caused the yellowish effect to Shrek :D .. reshot it with Natural Daylight ... hit refresh (in your web browser) and Shrek will turn back to green color.

The DVDs are not placed inside Disney/Futureshop/Scanovo released Steelbooks. They are always packaged separately. If there were futureshop steelbooks were the Disney DVD was placed inside... those were repacked(but thats seldom).

i just think it is silly to not take them out. i get them to watch. sure, i put them in protective bags for collection purposes, but i want them unsealed to watch when i want (isn't that the whole point of owning your own Blockbuster?). keeping them sealed seems illogical.

the Yankees one was announced months before the other two were even specs on the radar. they threw those out there, but took time to cultivate and make sure the Yankees SteelBook was fit for the viewing public. they made it stellar and almost god-like in its design. the other two were just 1st drafts of a flawed design structure. they learned from those and fixed it for the 9/23 release!

Futureshop has a Godfather Collection exclusive, but it hasn't updated what it is yet.. Judging by the sharing of TWEC and Futureshop steelbooks, I'm expecting it, but we might not know for sure until the printed flyer comes out..

If you already placed an order without using the coupon, you pretty much have to cancel your original order. And there is a coupon field just before you click on checkout.

yeah, the cover that i posted is actual cover scan. it has no language or identifying marks to say it is from anywhere. i got it special from Canada and thought it was the already existing FS one. if you notice the only difference with the german besides the "Special Edition" and "2 DVDs" is the 3rd creature from right on the ice block is different than the german version.

as with many Future Shop/Canada releases there is no UPC written on it, at least none that would discern it from the regular keepcase edition.

not just your Target. very odd why a DVD, any DVD would not be shrinkwrapped. has this ever happened before?

My target had about 5 of them, also without any plastic wrap.
Best buy has it for for $12.99 & DVDEmpire for $10.49.

hmm intriguing. last week i saw a copy of star hunter, the tv series box set, sans shrink as well. i thought it weird, so i took a closer look and it seems it was factory-produced this way, as it had a clear circular sticker where the digi-pack would slip out of the case - kinda like those stickers on video games.
