This Is Spinal Tap: None More Black Collectors Set

amazon link

DVD, CD, and T-shirt packaged together.
But what I want to know is, is the DVD the old MGM repackaged? Or is this something new from Fox.

Does anyone know what subtitles are included on this set, that's my big question.

Unless this includes the famed four hour cut of the film, I'll pass.

Right. The Criterion edition had a shitload of extra footage. If this has that, great. If not, I'm not sure what the big deal is. Is it some sort of Spinal Tap anniversary? Is it 25 years already?

Pretty sure I saw this at Costco a year ago. I believe it's just the current MGM DVD, the CD, and a shirt.

This is exaclty what I was thinking. Costco had this same set some time ago along with similar Rocky Horror Picture Show set. And it was the old MGM disc repackaged.

I thought the Special Edition had most, if not all of the criterion extras. Anyone have both?

I have to say, the deleted scene where they talk about the gorillas and bread and not developing baking skills KILLS me...

I have both the MGM and Criterion editions, and they're both quite different.

The Criterion has a "demo" that doesn't appear on the MGM edition. (It's basically a trial-run for the movie; runs about twenty minutes and has early versions of a few of the scenes from the final movie.)

The Criterion and MGM releases both have different commentaries. The Criterion has a commentary with the actors discussing the movie, while the MGM has a commentary by the band (the actors in-character).

Both editions have quite a few deleted scenes; most of them overlap, though -- IIRC -- each version a has a couple scenes that the other doesn't.

isn't the criterion non-anamorphic?

I just don't get why everyone makes such a big friggin' deal about Criterion DVDs when most of their stuff seems to be non-anamorphic...

The Criterion is non-anamorphic but the MGM image is cropped

Criterion AR - 1.7:1
MGM AR - 1.85:1

Here is a comparison

this is Fox we're talking about - the bluray edition won't have any extras.

Doesn't the Criterion also have a second commentary?

Yes, with Rob Reiner, producer Karen Murphy, and editors Robert Leighton and Kent Beyda.

Actually the Criterion has two different commentaries and the MGM SE has the in-character commentary not on the Criterion release.

They both have the hour of deleted scenes. I can not verify that they are the same, but I think they are.

^ My guess would be XL. 99% of free shirts usually are.

Oh, and I'll pass on this. Already got the MGM edition. I'd like the Criterion to be re-released anamorphic with all of the extras, but I don't see that happening.

Which is worth the price of admission alone.

Man, it is a pretty good price though.

I would be all in if they included a shirt with the cover of Smell the Glove on it.
