Lexx Season One, 10/07/08

I just noticed that most online stores now have Season One of Lexx for preorder (as low as 24.96 at DDD). I've been meaning to check this show out for a while, but the individual releases of the first season were always very expensive. I can't find any information about this anywhere else, but since all the major sites seem to have it, I think it's good sign.

Edit: I found the information here, from Echo Bridge Entertainment, at least it looks like nice packaging:

Cool! I only watched the first two episodes of this at a friends house, but I always thought it looked interesting. I think it was called Tales from a Parallel Universe at that point though. That may have just been it's Canadian title though.

That looks like Xev (Xenia Seeberg) on the cover, not Zev (Eva Habermann). The first season, which consisted of 4 two hour movies, starred Eva in the sex slave role. Xenia played the character from season 2 on.

If it's got the extras from the previous releases, I'll finally pick it up. I held off on buying the sets because they were so expensive. I really loved the show, but it lost a lot of steam in the final season.

Is this legit? Think I should sell my originals on ebay?

Did anyone get this? I pre-ordered it from DVDplanet with a few other things released today, and it didn't ship with the others.

I finally got this yesterday. I don't have the previous releases, so I can't compare, but I can tell you that the first two discs don't have any extras, the only options are Play and Chapters. Oddly, the DVD menu is in full screen, but the episodes are anamorphic (which I wasn't expecting). The video quality seems pretty good (better than another Echo Bridge offering "Starhunter.") The audio is fine, but no surround sound and no subtitles.

The packaging is pretty nice, with a sort of shiny box and a number of raised/embossed areas. Otherwise, the packaging is just like Starhunter with 4 discs, 2 on each side overlapping, with those weird little barcodes on the discs themselves.

As for the show itself, this was a blind buy for me, but I enjoyed the first episode. The FX were better than I thought they were going to be (except for the lame design of the AI from the first episode, it looked like one of those comedy routines where you flip your head upside down and put a pair of glasses on your chin.) Seeing the Mayor from Spin City in his crazy gladiator-esque outfit was pretty funny.

That is pretty worrying. I know all previous VHS and DVD releases were presented in 4:3 ratio, which I expect is how it was filmed. Hopefully, someone will do a side-by-side comparison to let us know if this set is, indeed matted/cropped (cutting out picture info, boo!) or if it is actually giving us additional picture information on the sides.

Can you tell us if these are the original versions (that say "Lexx" in the opening credits, not "Tales From a Parallel Universe")? Also, there was concern over the R4 release using a censored version of I Worship His Shadow, during the scene where they cut the guy's head open and expose the brain. Might be nice to know if that was edited out on this version or if it is unmolested.

Any updates regarding the correct aspect ratio and the cuts? Amazon has the S1 set at a very nice price right now ($18.XX).

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has ever compared the old Koch 4:3 release with the Echo Bridge 16:9 one to see if they did a Kung Fu: Season 1 on us or not.

I'm confused, also, because Starman up above says they're anamorphic, but a review of the same set on Amazon says they're 4:3.

Also, I read on a forum somewhere that the Echo Bridge set had some slight censoring on some of the dialogue in I Worship His Shadow.

Then, there is the R1 Canada release that just came out last week. Anyone know how it stacks up against the Koch and Echo Bridge ones? Amazon.ca's box art illustration makes one think it's just a port-over of the Echo Bridge set, but I'm hoping not.
