Also, if you choose to pick the INSTALLMENT Plan (Pay in 4 easy installments - no interest charged) it looks like it's reporting the wrong amounts in the checkout screen. It looks to be calculating the total of 3 remaining PRE-coupon amount, I just shot them an email to see what they have to say about it.

Could use this to get the 5 seasons of Get Smart (with extras) $199.95 less discount if you haven't had the opportunity.

I've been debating that set, but given that it looks like it will be less than $20 per season as they hit retail stores, I think I'll wait.

Will the credit card be charged the same day when you place the order? Or will they charge on date of shipment?

Get Smart doesn't have any extras. But if that's not something you care about, it's indeed a good deal.

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showpost.php?p=8830334&postcount=72 says they charge now, http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showpost.php?p=8831446&postcount=75 says they don't. I think, and this is purely a guess, but I think those that wrote someplace that they were charged now, were ordering at the special link timelife set up for ghosbusters only, which didn't allow coupons to be used. I'm almost sure they don't charge until the item ships.

I was interested in buying this release because I used to love the show and had all the toys, but I have no idea whether or not it's entertainment value has held up for me over the years. I don't have much to go by, so I think I will pass on this set. $150 is a lot of money to pay for a show that I vaguely remember loving as a child.

I can't recall if 20%/20% & free shipping come out, but since shipping is $15 it would make a difference. I think Get Smart had free shipping itself, then the coupon was used, but I'm not sure.

Ahoy there this is the first I've heard of this set and I'm excited about it! I had to splurge for it but this was the first time I ordered anything from Time Life so I accidentally ordered it with the 10% discount & had to pay shipping & tax it came to $195.5 so I called them and they were really cool the guy said he had an argument with a manager (screw the man!) I don't know what over but I ended up re ordering it with the 25% off but they also gave me free shipping so I got it for a pretty sweet $146.64

Now they gotta do this with Beetlejuice!

What a deal!

BTW, does anyone know who published those three Ghostbusters DVDs that came out a while back? I'm guessing it was not Time Life considering that the episodes were out of order.

Just placed my order, actually, and the TLMISSYOU coupon did not work. :(

My total with S&H is $179.98... Debating if I should call and complain about it or just cancel it and wait for a new coupon. Any suggestions?

Man, the first two seasons of this show are great... I love 'em... But... Boy, does it go downhill fast with a completely different animation style coupled with the Slimer focus in the last few years. I just can't see buying this for over $80. I picked up the Seinfeld Complete Series for $79 and I actually know I like most of those episodes.

E-Z-B
08-12-08, 12:15 PM
Season 1 & 2 are 78 episodes. Season 3 is another 13.

Season 4 was when it became "Slimer!", so at least you'll have 91 good episodes which is more than half the collection.

I did not stack any coupons. When I entered the coupon code, there was no discount. I just tried to do it now and it works... There must have been some kind of problems when I ordered last night. -_- I shot an e-mail to them asking if I could have the discount applied. If I don't receive a response, I'll be giving them a call tomorrow.

I just got off the phone twice after arguing with CS reps telling me my coupon didn't work (TLMISSYOU). I wanted to pay in the installment plan since there's no confirmation if they charge now or later.. seriously, the people working customer service there are idiots. I got one confirmation from a woman who manually applied the $45 off since the coupon wouldn't take then the other girl told me that they can only honor the 10% off since it's a pre-order. Come the fuck on.

I think I'm just gonna order it the way it is on the site and see what happens. Grrr.

EDIT: They charged right away. I didn't go through the pre-order page, just the regular Time-Life site. Oh well.

Man... I was against buying this for $180, but $150 might be too good to pass up on. I loved the cartoon as a kid, but I'm finding it harder to enjoy certain childhood faves as I get older. I recently bought all He-Man sets (10 bucks Best Buy deal last month) but find myself sort of burning out around after just 25 episodes. (though the fact that some episodes didn't play and were wonky didn't help any). I started out really enjoying the episodes, but then it became kind of the same ole same ole formula. I dunno, maybe I have outgrown it.

Anyway, I guess I'll pick this up for my future kids if anything else, plus, eventually, I plan to watch all 147 ep's again (in perhaps a futile attempt to relive a part of my youth).

By the way, how does the installment plan work?

What is the Installment Plan?

Several products on our site allow you the option of paying in separate installments with zero interest. If you have chosen an applicable product, the Installment Plan check box will appear in the shopping cart. Click it to take advantage of this convenient payment plan. Your entire order will then be divided into installments. Orders that exceed $800 are not eligible for the Installment Plan option regardless of individual product eligibility.

On your first statement, you will be charged the applicable installment plus all sales tax and shipping charges. Note: The balance due on your order cannot exceed the credit balance available on your credit card account. The Installment Plan does not apply to Introductory Offers

So let's say you click on this offer while checking out The Real Ghostbusters for $150 plus shipping. How many installments are we looking at here? 2? 3? 4? I don't want to be billed $150+ in one blow. So I'd pay let's say $75 the month of October, then in November they'll charge me the rest right? ($75, assuming it is a 2-month installment system).

While this one IS still a kid's show, it was always more inventive and less formulaic. Well, for a while at the least. Strange and esoteric references alone...

So it'd be $43.25 today, then 21 days later? $86.5 for the month is not bad...

Oh Mr. Shackle I doubt they would ship the DVDs separately. That'd mean they'd have to open the box set and break it up. I doubt they would do that, but can I have someone confirm this who HAS paid installment plans before?

Definitely the NOW current best deal for this set. Just cancelled my original order. Ended up saving $4.24 off the current total (from my original order), NOT including 8% cashback from Fatwallet.com. $10 for tax is a pain in the butt, but at least Fatwallet will negate that amount.

I had thought I read somewhere that those postcards were a mistake and our orders were not going to be cancelled... that must have been a dream since they cancelled my order today.

Worked out for the best, though - they saved me the trouble of cancelling and creating a new order with the AFPUMPKIN coupon code. It's the same deal as the expired "FRIENDS" code (15% off and $5 flat rate shipping).

I have noted on the account that you will be accepting this delay. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience. This product is still set to ship on November 15, 2008

We appreciate your interest in Time Life, and the opportunity to be of assistance.

They didn't even acknowledge that it was an error on their part. What really baffles me is that the set was never delayed in the first place... Anyway, it would definitely be safe to send them an e-mail if you received the card if you want to keep your pre-order as the initial pressing will run in limited quantities.

that is absolutely beautiful!!!

I can't wait for this to ship out.

just an FYI for those that chose to pay in installments. I called them yesterday to inquire about when they will be charging and they said thay the first installment will be charged upon shipment of the set, and the other 3 payments will each be 21 days after each other. So I think it's cool that you'll be paying after you already have it and not leading up to the release. It'll give me some time to save up.

I can also verify this as I just logged on to my account and the order was cancelled in my order history. Said I did not accept delay notice. I got about 4 postcards but I think I would have remembered if action was needed in order to keep the order live. I'm emailing them to see if they can reinstate the order.

I remember the postcards saying you had to call, but Time Life issued a statement saying they were a mistake and they "assured" us that orders would not be cancelled.... then they started cancelling orders.

I preordered mine 10/18 and just called now. It wasn't cancelled but I guess that's because it was within 2 weeks. Still paying $157.99 on 4 installment plan. Customer service said it's expected to still ship 11/15

I would call again and hope to get a different rep. When I called, I told them my original order was for $134.99 (without tax and shipping) and the rep didn't hesitate creating me a new order at that same price. I checked my online status and the new order is at the $134.99 price. Give it another try and good luck.

My order shows the same thing.

BTW, the Time Life service department has shown they have no idea what they are doing right now sending out all these postcards so if you get one in the mail, regardless of what you read here or elsewhere, make sure to call them up. They clearly aren't all the same page right now. I was lucky that I called in after that third postcard or this set would have costed me additional money.

I just got this email today too bad I all ready had free shipping

Dear Fellow Ghostbusters Fan!

Some might say we went a little overboard when we put together The Real Ghostbusters complete collection. We couldn’t help ourselves! This series deserved all the bells and whistles.

In response to fantastic feedback, we’ve created a deluxe firehouse collector’s box with lenticular (hologram) panels on the front and sides. Inside this box are 5 separate steel book cases containing a total of 25 DVDs with every episode from The Real Ghostbusters and Slimer! And The Real Ghostbusters series. The 25th DVD is a special bonus disc with nearly 3 hours of materials, including the never-before-seen promotional pilot with commentary and storyboards! All in all, there will be over 12 hours of bonus material!

Full product shot

Unfortunately, all these extra features, many of which weren’t included in our initial release plan, have lengthened the production time for this set, originally scheduled to ship out on November 15. But, because of all the added features, we will not have completed sets to ship out until November 25.

We know this will come as a disappointment to many, so we have decided to provide all of our pre-order customers with FREE FedEx Express shipping. Our standard shipping time is 2 weeks, so you will still get your set in the same timeframe (probably sooner)!

When you see all the fantastic features this collection has to offer, we’re sure you’ll agree it was worth the wait. So charge up your proton packs…The Real Ghostbusters is almost here!

Sincerely,

John*D

UPDATE on Delay of release date:

I received an email from Timelife regarding the delay of the release for the Ghostbusters set. It basically stated that because of the additional features (and I would assume the steelbooks) there is/was a production delay and that the orders would begin being shipped on November 25th, 2008.

As a bonus, pre-order customers are getting their shipping for this item upgraded to FREE FEDEX EXPRESS SHIPPING, as compared to what I can only assume would have been US Media Mail.

Since I had my order being shipped to my PO BOX, I called Timelife and changed it to my street address, which FEDEX can deliver to. So if you are in the same situation, I'd recommend doing that right away.

I called on the day I posted this to make sure everything was okay because they didn't seem to know what was going on. I got the email about them upgrading my shipping and everything this morning. LATER the same night... I received an email from them because I failed to contact them within 14 days, they canceled my order.

::shakes head::

How much of hassle is this going to be tomorrow talking to this guy saying I called the day I got the postcard and they still canceled my order? I had pre-ordered back when the price was a total of $150. I really don't want to lose this order at that price.

It won't be a hassle to get the price but they'll make you re-order it over the phone. Just make sure you know the coupon code you used. The only downside is that you'll now be at the end of the list for shipping. I'm so pissed at the way this has been handled especially since it was brought to their attention a while back. There is really no reason to cancel orders just because a product is delayed which this product isn't delayed. They should make you call if you want to cancel it not the other way around. I've noticed other companies do this as well.

Received the set today, November 24th, and it's HEAVY! Shipping box says 4 lbs. Although the Timelife web site states it was shipped by 2nd day UPS, it was actually shipped by FEDEX as stated in the previous email.

I haven't yet watched any episodes, just went through all the discs/cases to make sure everything was okay. Just two discs with noticible scratches, so I'm going to see if TIMELIFE will replace just those two.

The bonus disc comes in one of those stiff paper CD holders so I put it in a thinpak and managed to get everything into the box, although there is little breathing room.

A thoroughly impressive set from the packaging standpoint, especially those SteelBooks, hopefully the episodes and bonus content will be as such. You have got to give TimeLife credit for this set, I cannot imagine SONY ever doing anything like this on their own.

I'm off to catch some ghosts...

I go to check my account, order history, and I see two.

The Real Ghostbusters 10-18-08 $157.99
The Real Ghostbusters 10-28-08 $179.99

I click on the first one, it says it was cancelled.

I click on the second, it says it was shipped. But apparently, I've been charged $180?!? I did call TimeLife last month to CONFIRM do NOT cancel my $157 order, but it appears they have?!

Did this happen to anyone else? If I call customer service, will they take care of this mishap?

Shipping Charges: $5.00
Sales Tax: $7.90
Merchandise TOTAL: $185.37
First Installment: $51.15
ORDER TOTAL: $185.37

Is this what others have seen? I mean it says there is a $27 discount, they applied to my order on my order confirmation page, the bottom line price just doesn't seem to be reflected on the email.

EDIT: I called this morning and they confirmed that I will only be charged the discounted price.

Got my set, checked all the discs, and they are flawless. However, I really hate how the cases store the dvds. it's hard to get the dvd's out, and how one dvd overlaps the other can be a problem - you can't swap which is on top, which is on bottom.

My set came yesterday, looks real good. Not sure why I've been charged the full 180 though when I pre-ordered $157.99 and called in late October for them NOT to cancel my order.

Will have to give them a buzz after Thanksgiving. Haven't watched an ep yet but I love the set -- looks great!

Only one complaint so far... the book is black, which is easy to get fingerprint smudges on. Must be handled with great care or else it'll be easily blemished. I hate black covers like that. Yeah, it fits the show's theme, but handling it become a delicate hassle =p

Just watched the first episode Ghosts R Us... I expected better visual quality but I have to admit I guess I had lofty and unrealistic expectations for a cartoon over 20 years old. Still, He-Man looks good... but then, I guess The Real Ghostbusters always had that dim, gritty look eh?

As long as all the episodes run fine, I'm pleased. I had some trouble with some He-Man episodes that turned me off. Good thing I bought them all for $10 each back in September when Best Buy was doing the $10 deal. Very annoying to watch an episode and 15 minutes in it has some disc read error. Disc looks mint, too. Oh well.

Those cases are heavy - it's amazing even when you remove one, that the remaining cases shift so quickly the box could topple over!
