Geek alert.

You know that old Milennium Falcon that every fanboy had as a child in the 1970's, 1980's?

Well that mold broke, and Hasbro was forced to update it.

The brand-new 150.00 super-sized Millennium Falcon.

Frickin' badass.

My wife and I saw a display of these at Wal-Mart last night. I nearly got a hernia just turning the box around to look at the back! It is well done, from what I could tell.

I saw <s>one</s> a pallet full of them at TRU last week, they wanted $160. I was wondering what jacks the price up $100 over the 'normal' sized one.

Beyond the fact that it is a larger toy than the earlier model, it is a much more intricate one, as well. You may (or may not) recall that on the earlier model, the top of the saucer lifted off, but only about a third of it. The other 2/3 of the saucer was never opened for play. With the new Falcon, though, they have made every section open to reveal the interior. They have added several parts of the ship not previously included, such as the medical bay (shown on the box back with Leia tending to Turnicate Luke). So, no, this is not just a re-issue of the $100 version. It's an all-new model, with a whole lot more to offer kids/fans/collectors.

Wow. At least you get a lot for your ~$150. If the kid has a girlfriend, he's in for some serious trouble when her birthday rolls around.

You have to apply your own stickers and some of them are awfully hard to get on with fat adult fingers. It takes care and time...and even then you may mess up a sticker or two.

For a 150 bucks, Hasbro could have paid some factory kids to put those on for me.

Ball check? I have my wife do that for me :)

Although, I do admit all my old SW toys are in storage boxes in the garage. Ahhh, the compromises of marriage life.

I'm in Sunnyvale, CA by the way

jeff, you're in Sunnyvale? Where if I may ask? I used to live off of Fair Oaks and Caliente but I moved to Santa Clara.

Anyway, that is a great toy. I work at the Sunnyvale Target and I'll wait for it to go down in price some more and then apply my discount on that baby.

Hey Kal-El!

I'm in Sunnyvale on Remington between Bernardo and Mary Ave - so I know exactly which Target you work at! Awesome! I go to your store all the time. Do you know if they still have this toy there?

Don't feel too bad . . .
When I was growing up, I had stuff like Lincoln Logs & Erector sets.
Oh, and every Lego was either a brick or a flat piece. rotfl

M.A.S.K. was cool! What are you talking about? I'm 34. I feel I grew up in the best time of toys. Got to experience the dawn of a lot of the big franchises: Star Wars, He-Man, GI Joe, Transformers. All of which are still big today.

jiffy97
08-10-08, 10:11 PM
Yeah, but those franchises were also the beginning of the death of kid's imaginations. Before kids would get a box of generic legos, a handful of green army men or a stick. They would make up a story to go along with whatever they built/had. Now kids just act out the movie or follow the instructions to build their legos.

I vehemently disagree. While I had all those, acting out something I already saw was never part of my imaginative play. Transformers battled GI Joes, Lego men defended their space/castle/pirate combo bases against Play-Doh monsters. Green army men filled out armies, while sticks helped span great trenches dug in the back yard. Even with specific, identifable toys, I still utilized them in a huge number of ways.

I know this isn't true of all kids, but I don't think kids' imaginations have died. I see this with my own 4-year-old son. He has Transformers, he has Legos, etc. While we build a Lego vehicle out of the instructions to start, he then takes it to the next level by altering it how he wants. Or, he takes it apart and grabs some of the generic parts from his bucket and makes something new. All his "guys" (Tranformers, super heroes, dinosaurs, Cars cars, etc.) play together in unique ways. I've never seen him re-enact something from a movie (as much as he loves the movies and watches them), but instead I will hear his "guys" talking to each other, making plans, being friends, doing battle, or whatever else.

1. How can any kid or adult even play with that - it's huge and heavy.
2. Did you forget about this big-ass mother? http://www.blog.littyhoops.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/gi-joe-aircraft-carrier.jpg
I remember one of my friends having this toy. I envied him, but I also felt bad for him for wasting so much space with it.

I thought the cartoon above is a bit stereotypical and far-fetched, but the image below is pretty pathetic and depressing:

I still don't understand why Bobba Fett is still considered the cool character of the Star Wars films (in the realm of cool such as wolverine from x-men, snake eyes/storm shadow from g.i. joe, or Soundwave/starscream from transformers) - Bobba Fett went out screaming like a little girl. I always thought that the most bad-ass character from star wars was The Emperor, even making him more bad-ass after the sucky prequels

I'm glad Boba Fett put aside some of his past differences with old friends. It would have been sad to see him getting married without Spiderman there.

Well - just scored the new Millennium Falcon on Ebay - for 50.00 + 35.00 shipped.

SUPPOSEDLY mint, with a seller with 100% feedback.

Now it's time to unload my old Falcon on Ebay and justify some of these costs....

Wow, that looks great. All these Falcons are great though, but I've always loved the X-Wing.

The only big X-Wing I've seen is the swamp one from Amazon (Entertainment Earth) for $45.

The price is not too bad for a large toy, but any better X-Wing out there?
