There are a few movies that when first released, I thought so much of that I watched them over and over again to the point were years later, although I now own them on Dvd, they are still SO familiar that I hardly ever watch them at all!

These would be movies like:

The Godfather Trilogy
The Wild Bunch
The Exorcist
The early Bond Films
Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
The Sting
Jaws
The Dollar Series
Cool Hand Luke
The Magnificent Seven
etc

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like these movies, they are all great, it's just that I've watched them SO many times over the years, that I think I've "watched them to death" in my case.

Just wondered is their anyone else with a list similar to this?

nothing really. It's kind of sad, I rarely rewatch films unless friends want to see them, I almost only watch new films.

and an ashamed fact:
I've only watched Godfather 1 and 2 once and consider them my favorite films of all time..is that bad?

I rarely watch movie more than once or twice but I have seen the Evil Dead films more times than a person really should and never get tired of them.

There was a period where I couldn't re-watch The Big Lebowski or Shaun of the Dead because I'd watched them too many times.

I've watched Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back over 200 times apiece since 1977 and 1980 respectively.

My fiance calls 3 movies that I watch over and over again, the unholy three:

Blackhawk down

the original star wars movies are pretty much played out for me. Doesn't help that the only versions I have are the bastardized 2004 DVDs, and I couldn't justify spending the $10 at Costco to get the "bonus OT" abortion that Lucas put out a year or so ago.

Just about every movie I had taped/dubbed in the 80s and 90s I watched to death. Of course I was very young back then.

Growing up with HBO in the 80's, these movies I have seen so many times I have lost count:

Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Back to the Future
Hoosiers
Stand By Me
Caddyshack
Stripes
Ghostbusters
Fletch
Back to School
Ferris Buellars Day Off
National Lampoons Vacation
Superman:The Movie
Superman II
Rocky
Rocky II
Rocky III
Rocky IV
Wargames
The Breakfast Club
Weird Science
Sixteen Candles
Teen Wolf

There was always 2-3 movies they would replay everyday during summer when school was out, and I would watch them everytime. We would all come back to school in September knowing the lines of these movies in and out.

There are plenty of movies that I've watched to death, but the major one is West Side Story. I've watched it at least once a month for almost 25 years. Often 2-3 times too.

Pretty much my list to a T. And for the same reason. I basically lived on HBO in the 80's.

There are only a few movies I've watched to death that I bought on DVD. Most movies I've watched repeatedly I've never picked up on DVD BECAUSE I'm sick of them, and/or they are STILL replayed endlessly.

Movies that qualify that I do own:

It's A Wonderful Life
Miracle On 34th Street
Karate Kid movies
Back to the Future movies
La Bamba
Forrest Gump

When I was a kid, we had only 4 VHS tapes. Waynes World, Jurassic Park, Batman, and a VHS recording of No Escape. My brother and I watched them constantly, especially during summer vacations.

Add Pulp Fiction, Die Hard, Reservoir Dogs, Chasing Amy, Clerks, Boogie Nights, Way of the Gun, and American Pie to the list of movies that I can now recite.

What is tough is when you're a captive audience of sorts... those of you who are parents with teenage kids will understand that. While I might like this or that movie well enough to watch several times over a decade, my 16 year old can wear some movies OUT to the point I'll never pull them off the shelves for the simple fact they get watched too much as it is with me in the proximity.....

The only one that comes to mind is Jurassic Park.
