Batman 3 - If the Joker returns, who should play him?

If Nolan does what many don't believe he will and brings back the Joker in the third film, who do you think should get the role?

I think after what Heath did the Joker will be retired of quite awhile. What actor will wanna follow up that performance?

I'd like to see Ben Foster tackle the role. However, I'd rather see him make the character his own rather than simply emulate Heath Ledger's performance.

God no. He'll just act like he did in Alpha Dog with make up on.

Bringing back the Joker would be a huge mistake, period.

Just bring back Ledger. They'll save a ton of money on makeup for his white face and sunken eyes.

No one. Leave the character alone. Hell, even if Ledger was still alive, I think it would be better to leave him out of the third movie.

If Ledger were alive, he would definitely have a part in the third film. If only for a small appearance. I liked that they had the Scarecrow in TDK for a brief amount of time. It shows that villains never stop, and still are an issue for Batman, regardless of how big of an issue they appear to be in the film.

+2.

However, if they actually did do it I'd go with Johnny Depp. I'm convinced he can play anything.

They should do a time warp by a couple decades.

Recast Bale with Ray Stevenson and make Daniel Day Lewis the Joker.

It'd be fun for everyone

my humble opinion:

Use cut footage, alternate takes... digitally manipulate a bit here or there... even have Mark Hamill do the line-reads. Just do not, for the love of all that is good and holy, re-cast the Joker. I pity the poor son of a bitch who accepts that role.

I agree, but based on the dialogue near the end of TDK, I'm guessing that Nolan's original plan was to include Joker in the third picture in some capacity. Hopefully, it would be more substantial than the "blink and you'll miss him" cameo from Scarecrow.

If they decide to use the Joker in a major way (big if) they should totally re-image him, NOT try to imitate Heath. The only way I could see that working is to skip a movie before re-introducing him.

I'd like to see my first choice originally:

Ugh, I thought Depp really misfired in that role. He is usually great with wacky personas, but that didn't hit the mark for me.

Speaking of Keaton, I thought he would have been an excellent Wonka. He can pull off wide-eyed, manic and off-kilter with aplomb. Burton-directed Beetlejuice is exhibit A for that. But I don't blame Burton for going with "it" guy Depp.

Huh, I just somehow discussed Burton and Keaton in a Batman thread without mentioning Batman (until now!).

Daniel Day Lewis or Johnny Depp are both good choices and could easily pull of the Joker character.

I don't see why anyone wouldn't want Joker in Batman 3 rather than some B grade villain thats gonna need some long set up to become evil.

We all know that Oldman plays a great Villain.
