do you guys use binders to store dvd's?

Ive been trying to figure out a way to store some of my dvd's that i dont really want to leave in a case and display. Binders are nice but of course you can't store them alphabetically. What is the best option i have to store dvd's alphabetically? I realize most people just buy a dvd rack and put all of them on there but i would like to condense my collection everything down and just stick to slip covers/sleeves for my dvd's.
thanks for any help!

Look around, there are a gabazillion threads on "storage".

No reason you can't store them in binders alphabetically if you want to.

how exactly would i store them alphabetically in binders? If i get a new title i would have to shuffle each disc over to the next sleeve! seems just a tad tedious.

Save some spaces. Tedious, yup, but not too bad if you plan for spacing.

FWIW, I have several similar to these... I don't go for the display to other people route (I did that for several years). I just go with software organizer to tell me where the movies are stored now. I only keep the Blu-ray, HD DVD, and some select DVD boxes out now.

I don't keep the artwork with them, there are sleeves that can can store the artwork with the DVD, but they can get costly if you have a lot of discs.

Not worth another thread but I found this over at a deal site. Here is a coupon code for $5.00 off BF655. Makes the total less then $50 shipped for storage of more then 500 DVD's.

Buy 26 binders - one for each letter of the alphabet.

I used to use binders for cds, but found that they will scratch them, so I quit using them. I just store on shelves. Not for others to see, but ease of finding what I'm looking for. I store alphabetically too, because it would be a nightmare trying to find a particular movie, out of the 700+ I have, if they weren't in alphabetical order.
Good luck.

I have most of my CDs in binders, now. Not a single scratch that I would identify as the sleeve's fault. Some DVDs, too. But I only have a few hundred DVDs, hasn't been a space issue, yet.

Yep, I had the same problem. Some of my discs got scratched up, especially if I had discs on both sides of the page, making the fit tighter. After I realized this problem, I stopped storing DVDs in binders...

I, too, have had some issues with CD's being scratched by binders. It especially occurs when the disc is one you pull out often; probably not as big a deal with DVD's as it is with CD's, unless you re-watch the same titles often. Still, I don't think I would put a double-sided DVD into a binder for any reason.

If you're looking to save a lot of space, and still alphabetize your library easily, I have a suggestion. For $10 or less, you can get a sturdy 2-column CD storage box. They're generally made of some kind of reinforced cardboard and come collapsed. You unfold it, snap some panels together and voila! Obviously, DVD cases will not fit inside the box, but that's okay since you're not trying to store the boxes anyway. You can store them in CD jewel cases (which is the safest way to go, but can get pricey in a hurry). You will maximize the number of discs you can store while simulatenously minimizing your cost if you instead buy paper sleeves. A pack of 100 Memorex paper sleeves (with the big, round cellophane window on the front) can be had for just a few bucks. The nice thing about this route is, as you add a disc, you just slide it into place alphabetically. I have two such boxes, and I can fit 32 standard sized CD jewel cases in each column (that's 64 per box). I estimate that 7 discs in paper sleeves to be the same depth as 1 standard sized CD jewel case, so that's roughly 448 discs you could get into each box.

Compact, sturdy and it lets you keep things alphabetized.

I have most of my CDs, DVDs, and video games stored across several binders. Nothing alphabetized and I just expand as needed. I've purchased binders of varying size although I can usually remember where a particular selection is when I want it.

No big issues with scratches.

OTOH, I remember last summer leaving a game stored in it's case after each use. I was playing it quite often and when it didn't work anymore I noticed a small crack radiating from the center hub. It may have been from the constant replacement and removal out of the case. A small microscopic crack grew over time and just weeks later rendered the disc unplayable.

You just had to go and post a thread to remind me about my space issues! Some pretty good ideas. I've thought about binders but was worried about the alphabetical thing. I like the idea of using a location number to solve that problem though. It would be really easy to do with DVD Profiler. But I also love to have the original packaging.

Maybe I'll just leave my one really huge rack out for more elaborate packaging, HD media, TV shows and maybe most frequently viewed discs and then start buying binders for others. That's actually not a bad idea at all.

I need to do something because, as many of you already know, having 1,000+ discs takes up a ton of room in the house.

Anyone have any binder recommendations? Ones that are inexpensive, maybe give a little bit extra room for putting discs on either side of the page?
