Werner Herzog and David Lynch team up for "My Son, My Son"

From Reuters:

"Directors Werner Herzog and David Lynch are teaming for "My Son, My Son," a horror-tinged murder drama based on a true story.

Herzog and his longtime assistant director Herbert Golder co-wrote "Son," loosely based on the true story of a San Diego man who acts out a Sophocles play in his mind and kills his mother with a sword.

The low-budget feature will flash back and forth from the murder scene to the disturbed man's story. A guerrilla-style digital video shoot on location is tentatively set for March. Lynch is executive producing the project.

Herzog is having a busy year. He was set to film "Son" in the summer but postponed it to direct Nicolas Cage in a remake of Abel Ferrara's 1992 cop drama "Bad Lieutenant" starting in July. In the fall, he will shoot the Victorian-era drama "The Piano Tuner" for Focus Features."

Wonder if we'll get twice as many midgets in this one.

Lynch exec producing? Thats hardly a "team up". Thats like when Quentin Tarantino "teams up" with Eli Roth for Hostel I and II.

Werner Herzog simply doesn't disappoint. David Lynch's 'executive producer' involvement doesn't do much for me. It just means that his production company, Absurda, got things up and running. Don't presume we're going to get a Lynch-like movie here.

I'd agree completely about the influence of the executive producer if it were anyone else but Lynch. He has such a unique, twisted vision that I can't imagine the film not reflecting it to at least a minor degree. Look at the other film he executive produced, Nadja - it definitely had a David Lynch "vibe" to it. His other exec producer credit is for The Cabinet of Dr. Ramirez, which is a loose remake of Caligari, and silent as well. This one sounds fascinating, but it seems to be difficult to track down.

But Nadja was directed by, IIRC, a Lynch fan. Herzog has his own style, and it really doesn't sound like Lynch has much to do with this at all. Regardless, I will see anything Herzog does.

All I needed to hear was "Herzog and Lynch" something, something... I'm sold.

I'll watch anything either of them do.

Willem Defoe, Grace Zabriskie, Brad Dourif, Udo Kier, midgets...I'd say Lynch had a little involvement in this.

Werner Herzog and David Lynch was enough for me, but seeing this cast list really sold it for me. I have got to see this movie.

Re: Werner Herzog and David Lynch team up for "My Son, My Son"

This is an incredible film. Aside from the impeccable casting, it has a very unique rhythm.

It's definitely WEIRD and flawed, no doubt about it, but it's also fascinating, creepy and funny as hell.

Not intended for the popcorn movie/Transformers crowd and it's certainly not a conventional horror film.

"In the end, My Son is not a movie. It’s not really a film either. It’s more like…it’s more like a guy on the beach with a metal detector who walks over to you and says, “I found this. Is it yours?” And then he hands you your own skull."

Must see.

Anybody else dig this Herzog thang?

Re: Werner Herzog and David Lynch team up for "My Son, My Son"

I love most of Herzog's stuff, but this didn't do much for me.

It has a good feel, but the execution of the story and characters was off.
