The Top 21 Comedy Episodes Since 2000

A couple weeks ago, I was watching I Love the New Millennium. Although it may be too soon to start looking about on the 2000s, the special left me to think about the good comedy we've been treated to this decade. Although noted classics like Larry Sanders, Newsradio, and Seinfeld were all gone by the turn of the century, there was a lot more ahead. So here below I have the top 21 episodes from comedies (not necessarily all comedic episodes.) The rules are that I cannot repeat a show, and the episode has to have aired in the 2000s. I left some clips for #10-1, and I kept my thoughts to a minimum because I bore myself and I'd rather hear your thoughts about some good episodes. Finally: Spoiler alert.

21. "Joy's Wedding" - My Name is Earl (2005)
20. "Showdown" - How I Met Your Mother (2007)
19. "Leaves" - Spaced (2001)
18. "The Resurrection" - Entourage (2007)
17. "Cooking With Jesus" - Weeds (2006)
16. "Rock and Awe: Guitarmageddon" - The Colbert Report (2006)
15. "Patrick Stewart" - Extras (2005)
14. "Trilogy of Error" - The Simpsons (2001)
13. "The Dundies" - The Office US (2005)
12. "E. Peterbus Unum" - Family Guy (2000)
11. "Godfellas" - Futurama (2002)

10. "The One With the Rumor" - Friends (2001)
Even funnier now that Brad and Jen divorced.

9. "A Date With the Health Inspector" - The Boondocks (2005)
Samuel L. Jackson callback.

8. "My Overkill" - Scrubs (2002)
AKA "The Colin Hay Career Resurrection Episode"
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RZ45xrtNnzk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RZ45xrtNnzk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

7. "Training" - The Office UK (2001)
It would be too easy to go back-to-back acoustic with Freelove Freeway, so here's this clip...
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3nyCIqJP_4s&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3nyCIqJP_4s&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

6. "Mugged" - Flight of the Conchords
I do like singing in my shows. In case you can't tell.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/boafDfigiAo&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/boafDfigiAo&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

5. "The Gang Goes Jihad" - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2005)

I think what I like most about Sunny is like Seinfeld and Curb your enthusiasm before it, it has many different plot threads throughout the show that eventually find its way together right at the very last second. The ending here is the extreme example of that. Also extremely funny: Three guys getting trapped in a chain link fence.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/D4JlKI97B9A&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/D4JlKI97B9A&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

4. "Good Grief" - Arrested Development
"Footage Not Found"
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/L5_Y6Nn-70E&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/L5_Y6Nn-70E&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

3. "Krazee Eyez Killa" - Curb Your Enthusiasm (2002)
KEK is THE greatest one-off character in sitcom history. I will accept no substitute. Also, trying to find him using directory assistance is impossible. AND MARTY SCORSESE!
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JGrGwhoN0K8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JGrGwhoN0K8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

2. "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories: Rick James" - Chappelle's Show (2004)
Lost in the whole Rick James thing is that Rashida Jones was in the short, unconnected opener to this episode. (Also, I think I might like the Prince one better overall, but this is the classic.)
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wR2AeirpewE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wR2AeirpewE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

1. "Scott Tenorman Must Die" - South Park (2001)
Possibly the best ending to any episode ever.
NOTE: It also seems that the better the episode, the worse options you get on youtube. Here's Trey and Matt's commentary on the episode though.

Pretty good list, I have never seen the Boondocks so that wouldn't be on there for me, and probably not that Friends episode (I like Brad Pitt, but his acting seemed way off in that).

For IASIP, I would go with Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody's Ass.

Cool thread, I think I'll try to come up with my own list too, but will have to check out my DVDs first.

It's hard to argue against Scott Tenorman Must Die at #1.

However, to not have one episode of Coupling-UK on this list is ridiculous.
