PLanet of the Apes

Exactly. I didn't have cable, no VHS, and we had 3 TV channels. Star Wars is the only movie I remember seeing in the theater before I was 10.
My kids look at me like I was crazy or pathetic. "What did you do all day?"
We played outside from dawn to dusk, everyday. It was a pretty good childhood.

As a kid, I don't think I really loved any drama films. I now see the connection that my favorite films revolved around Chevy Chase, Richard Pryor, John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Gene Wilder, Michael J. Fox, Tom Hanks, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, and John Candy. And I wasn't even aware of Saturday Night Live til much older...
I rememember being amazed with My Life as a Dog though.

Well, I'm another that was 10 in 1977. But I think I went to the movies maybe twice up until I was 13 or so, so most of these movies come from Betamax tapes that my parents either bought or we taped (with my corded remote!) at 12-13 or so:
In no particular order:
Fun with Dick and Jane
Murder by Death
Muppet Movie
Annie
Jaws
Bad News Bears
The In-Laws
Rocky
Star Wars
Buster Keaton films (had a few on tape)
and any Bugs Bunny/Warner Bros. cartoons I could tape! :)

I'm another '10 in 77'er too, but it was when I was 12 in 7th grade in 1979 when I remember making up top ten lists in the back of my notebook (especially during science class).
1) King Kong ('33)
2) Jaws 2
3) Superman
4) Jaws
5) Star Wars
6) Alien
7) Foul Play
8) The In-Laws
9) The Buddy Holly Story
10) The Exorcist
...and I still love all of 'em.
I still remember some of my favorite movies pre-10 as well
King Kong (ever since seeing it when I was 7, it dominated my imagination like no other movie)
Prisoner Of Second Avenue
Paper Moon
Phantom Of The Paradise
Thoroughly Modern Millie
Planet Of The Apes
Werewolf Of Washington
War Of The Collosal Beast
Phantom Of The Opera (Hammer version)
Posideon Adventure
Arnold (!?)
many of these courtesy of unsupervised HBO afternoon viewings. I still love all these too, though I have never been able to track down Arnold again. Boy, did I have a huge crush on Stella Stevens then. It would be a real kick to see it again. I live in hope one of the labels like Synapse, or BU will unearth this.

Stole this idea from the Criterion forum. Your top ten favorite films, from when you were a wee lad (or lass) of ten.
The Goonies
La Bamba
The Blob
Stand by Me
Beverly Hills Cop
Cloak and Dagger
Flight of the Navigator
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Terminator
Jaws
OK let's see now... I was 10 in 1981... so I will only include movies I'd seen up until that point.
1. Star Wars
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. Superman: The Movie
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark
5. A Hard Day's Night
6. The Wizard of Oz
7. The Adventures of Robin Hood
8. King Kong
9. Grease
10. The Spy Who Loved Me (my very first Bond flick ever. Saw it in the theaters in '77. Loved it)
These were my Top 10 around that time. I can't tell you how many times I saw Flynn/Curtiz's ROBIN HOOD. I was a fresh Beatlemaniac and saw HARD DAYS NIGHT at a revival theater and just fell in love with the movies. Of course, there were the STAR WARS films. WIZARD OF OZ was religion when it came on TV every spring. KING KONG was the greatest creature feature ever. And GREASE was religion to everyone back then, pretty much.
If there were #11 and #12, they'd be CLASH OF THE TITANS and ARTHUR, respectively.
