Entertainment Weekly's Best 100 Films from the Last 25 Years

Don't know if anybody's posted this yet, but this week, I came across EW's top 100 films of the last 25 years. They clearly focused mainly on popular American films, which doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad list, but leaves a lot of room for discussion. For instance, the inclusion of Beverly Hills Cop and Pretty Woman. I've seen 83 of the films.

No Shawshank Redemption?

No Open Range?

Not to mention that their #1 pick is probably about 50 or 60 places too high, and much of the rest of the order is pretty jacked up, too.

No wonder almost no one takes these lists seriously...

Michael Clayton seriously? That wouldn't even make my Best 100 of 2007.

No Shawshank and no Forrest Gump automatically invalidates that list.

That's awful. There's a lot that deserve to be in the top 100, but the order is way off. I should sit down and do my own list.

It makes more sense if you remove "Best" from the title.

Finally hard proof that The Matrix is a better film than No Country for Old Men, There Will be Blood, AND Schindler's List...

OK, let's get serious here for a minute. As much fun as films like "Men in Black", "The Naked Gun", "Pretty Woman", "Beverly Hills Cop", "Clueless" and "Fatal Attraction" are, they do NOT belong on any "Best" list. Especially when "Shawshank" is grossly overlooked. What the fuck is up with THAT!?? Not to mention...."Leon", "Kill Bill", "Donnie Darko", "Braveheart", "Elizabeth". To name a countless few.

Yeah, it's a crappy list. I'd remove Shrek, Pretty Woman, Napoleon Dynamite, Dirty Dancing, and Jerry Maguire for starters.

However, I'm not even sure they were trying to make this a definitive list of the best. They seemed to choose a mix of lesser-known (to the general public at least) movies and popular favorites.

Still, no Shawshank is a real head-scratcher. They must have just forgotten about it.

It's hard to come up with 100 films on your own and list them. Here are the ones that I would pick as the top ten list for the last 25 years.
1. Pulp Fiction
2. Schindler’s List
3. Goodfellas
4. Ran
6. Platoon
7. Fargo
8. The Silence of the Lambs
9. Almost Famous
10. Saving Private Ryan

Shawshank Redemption
The Fugitive
Field of Dreams
A Few Good Men
Hoosiers

and Back to the Future at #91?

Wow, did not even think about The Fugitive, Field of Dreams, A Few Good Men and Hoosiers (one of my all time favorite movies!).

What a stupid list, I think they just want to get people mad so they will look at their website? (Which I will not do)
