Penn & Teller Bullshit, 6/19/08, "War on Porn" **Season 6 Premeire**

Episode 1 -- "War on Porn"

Spoiler:
Better hide your computer under the mattress – a wide variety of groups across the country want to take away your porn. Radical feminists claim porn leads to violence; rabid right-wingers claim it leads to addiction; and even former boy toy Donna Rice claims it’s hurting the children. None of these groups have any proof to back up their claims, but they’ve convinced the government to waste your money and invade your privacy while going after something that should be perfectly legal. We’ll reveal the naked truth behind this latest battleground for regulating the internet and your free speech.

Great topic. Can't wait.

A day early, but thanks for reminding me. I had no idea it was starting up so soon. Is this airing every Thursday? For how long?

Yeah, I posted early, but I figured some weren't aware that it was starting back up. Every Thursday 10 pm ET with lots of repeats (and it's probably on VOD too if you have that). Don't know how many eps there are this season.

One of my favorite "catch it when it's on" shows. I'll set my DVR to record the season this time. Thanks for the heads up, OP.

I was aware. I was going to post it tomorrow.

First seven episodes (I don't know if that's all):

War on Porn
New Age Medicine
NASA
Dolphins
Sleep, Inc.
Being Green
Sensitivity Training

"Being Green" would be the one I'm most looking forward to (surprise, surprise!). All in all, a pretty good line up of topics, I think.

[oops]Isn't the word "Bullshit" not supposed to be in the thread title?[/oops]

^LOL at an episode on Dolphins. I'm afraid that based solely on the name of that episode it has already won me over.

I wasn't aware there was a big war on porn... I figured it was one of those, "some groups hate it, but what can they do about it?" I don't think any anti-porn propaganda is a real threat to the industry.

Ask the U.S. DOJ whether they are engaged in a War on Porn.

They should've done one on internet gambling, specifically relating to online poker.

Time to re-activate Showtime. Maybe I'll give that new Billie Piper show a chance too.

Yeah, I remember the news stories on the ramp up in prosecution efforts that got semi-sidelined, or at least scaled down, thanks to 9/11.

Glad to have P&T back!

Happy this show is back! Thanks for the post because completely didn't realize it was starting up again already. Always happy to have something else to watch during the summer.

They've already blasted environmentalism and global warming, so this is nothing new.

Is this really the 6th season? I thought they'd only had at most 4 already.

The fifth was really short compared to the others.

I've seen a few episodes and it seems like a fun series. But I don't know about some episodes. Is the 'Being Green' one going to tell me I'm a chump for trying to save electricity and not dumping my garbage in the nearest river?

Probably, but then, you already knew you were a chump anyway, right?

I wasn't terribly impressed with this one. I was surprised they didn't even discuss the government prosecution of the porn industry. That's the biggest problem. Not what the random nuts believe. Unfortunately, some of those nuts find their way into government.

I always find the feminist arguments about the exploitation of women in porn ironic since 1) women far outearn men in the industry and 2) feminists offer up the "it's the women's body, therefore her choice" argument when it comes to abortion.
