How badly will The Love Guru tank?

Hopefully bad enough that Myers can move on to something not involving multiple or high-concept characters.
My sister-in-law was telling me about an article in EW about how egotistical Myers apparently is and how he always wants to do these things. No offense, just that it's tiresome...if you're older than 14 that is.

I dont let stars personal lives get in the way of their art (Like Spike Lee, Tom Cruise, etc.) but its hard to call Myers' work "art" in the first place.
Here are my favorite excerpts from the article:
(On the making of Wayne's World)"Directing her first studio film, Spheeris found herself struggling to prop up Myers' often dark moods. One day, infuriated that there was no margarine for his bagel, only butter, Myers — who, according to several sources, said he suffered from hypoglycemia — stormed off the set. (Myers' rep denies he is hypoglycemic.) ''He was emotionally needy and got more difficult as the shoot went along,'' Spheeris says. ''You should have heard him bitching when I was trying to do that 'Bohemian Rhapsody' scene: 'I can't move my neck like that! Why do we have to do this so many times? No one is going to laugh at that!''' To manage Myers' moods, Spheeris put her daughter in charge of making sure he had whatever snack he needed at any given moment: ''To this day, I have this image of her sitting on this little cooler, looking at me, like, 'Mom, I f---ing hate you.'''
(On the making of So I married...) "If Wayne's World was a difficult experience, Myers' next film, 1993's So I Married an Axe Murderer, was a torturous one. From the outset, Myers clashed with director Thomas Schlamme, at times holing up in his trailer and refusing to work. ''I think Mike's a visionary, but his way of getting what he wants is to emote and threaten and express anger,'' says the film's producer, Rob Fried. ''It's not healthy for personal relations.''"
I actually think this one will make at least $80 million in the US and wont be considered a bomb at all. Sadly I think Americans at least will eat this one up.

Just my opinion, but...
Mike Myers reminds me of an older brother who was extremely cool a decade ago, and simply won't change his sense of humor. He just can't adapt.

God I hope he doesn't do another Austin Powers film. The first one was good. The second one was ok, but by the end it felt like the joke had got old. The third by then the joke was so old that I don't think anyone cared. When I saw the trailer for Love Guru I thought why? I know Mike Myers has it in him to do great movies or do some great roles. And I read the same EW article and I get what he's going for here and the need to do it. But will it work? Everyone I've talked says that they have no point in seeing the film til it comes out to dvd or cable. But the same can be said about Get Smart, which I think will be the #1 film this weekend but not by far because the people that didn't see Hulk last weekend will still be heading out to see that over Smart or Guru.

I love "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery". I love the movie so much that I have placed it along side my James Bond movies.
I see the promos for "The Love Guru" and am torn. It makes me think of the first AP movie, but that familiarity also makes me think Mike Meyers is stuck in 1998.

Wasn't the fact that he is a complete tool the reason the Sprockets movie never got made?
Also, when did it become ok to brown up and play indian people again? I thought that wasn't cool since the 70s.
Hopefully Meyers will go full on black face in his next flick.

It's funny how Sandler, Myers, and many of the SNL alum's comedy gets real stale years later. Sandlers movies these days are pretty bad, and Myers is turning into Chevy Chase where everytime he does some awards show or something, he just isn't funny anymore, and is living off his reputation.
I hope it tanks, cause if these stupid comedies keep making boatloads of money, we'll keep getting stupid comedies.

Personally I think the Love Guru looks about as funny as the Master of Disguise.
And the only funny thing Myers has been involved with in years has been:

Although I think it looks pretty bad, I don't think it will tank. At every movie that I've gone to where The Love Guru's trailer has been shown, the audience has eaten it up.

This movie should do great business. The only thing that could stop it is if a rival movie featuring a more popular comedian comes out on the same day. Especially if that rival movie is getting a lot of good early buzz.

I thought the trailer for Love Guru was pretty funny. Whether or not it had all the best gags remains to be seen.
My expectations were so low a few months ago (after reading about the concept) that the trailer easily exceed them. I don't get caught up in any of the, "Well, that would have been funny in 1998, but now it's old and stale" garbage - if it's funny it's funny, period.

I thought the trailer had some funny moments and it has Jessica Alba so I will be checking it out. When at the movies the audience always laughed through the trailer so I think it will do pretty good 35-45million opening weekend
