It's actually quite fair considering how utterly crap Punisher was, and how few major blockbuster movies there are targetted to an adult women audience. Apples and oranges, matey.

I don't think there was much audience overlap there. One has a built-in, devoted audience, some of whom have nearly modeled their lives after the main characters.

The other couldn't even win over die-hard fans of the comics. It made big changes to the character's past, story's setting and other things.

Sex and the City had a massive marketing budget compared to the Punisher, plus it wasn't opening shortly after two films that appeal to a very similar audience (Kill Bill Vol. 2 and Hellboy)

I enjoyed the Punisher movie, but I can totally believe that Sex and the City made way more money.

Let me twist it around so you feel better:
Men have a lower tolerance for crap movies than women.

Punisher has a smaller comic book based audience. Sex and The City has a TV based audience which is obvious from the past was pretty huge. Both have good and bad times considered. But...I would assume Sex and The City *haven't seen it, yet* was a better film than the piece of crap Punisher was. Neither is art, nor will be remembered for the films they are now.

I can. Sex and the City was better than Punisher. It makes perfect sense to me.

To be fair though, I tried to patern my life after the Punisher and...ok lets just say it wasn't pretty.

Now that I am in hiding things are better but I still haven't seen Sex and the City.

I cannot believe this is a real thread.
I have respect for both films especially since they are both rated R and last over 2 hours which can be rare. Both were enjoyable but disappointing.

The movie tried to adapt the recent comics and mythology of the character in the form of the 70s action films. They changed the city, NYC is The Punisher's stomping ground. The adaptation of the style was lukewarm, Punisher methodically shoots at a constant stream of bullets cuz that what he does. The comics from Garth Ennis are stoically dark and gritty. The film was....neither. Hell, the first Punisher comic had more action than the film. John Travolta's character was a very weak villain. His death and the carnage from the cause of his death into that final, supposed to be cool but is very generic, fire image is very tacky. Punisher would never waste time to do something like that. The sad thing of it's plot is that it adapts "Welcome Back, Frank". Ennis' great story after Castle's long hiatus, due to many many reasons story wise and Marvel Comics wise. Also the Leone homages...were crappy, it had no tension, or factor of suspense/thrill. The only Punisher like thing in there was his killing all of Travolta's men in that building before his confrontation with Travolta. The Russian fight sequence was boring, again something out of "Welcome Back, Frank". I was fine with Jane as Punisher, it just had a crappy script. I think...I think I hit the nail on the head with a mallet on there.

We still got a sequel to The Punisher and a Director's Cut DVD. So, I think The Punisher won out in the end.

The Punisher was a suck-ass film for men.
Sex and the City was an excellent movie for women.

I liked the Punisher and disliked Sex and the City, but I can easily see the difference in money. Not a big deal.

You may be trying to make him feel better, but, I have to disagree. Men tend to gravitate towards crap, where women run the other way.

I'm a man, and I can tolerate a crap film much more than most women can.
