DVD Talk review of 'The Air I Breathe'
I read Phil Bacharach's DVD review of The Air I Breathe at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=33582 and... I couldn't disagree more with his recommendation of a "Rent It".
For me this is a 5 star movie. ie, one I need to have on my shelf.
There were moments in the movie so powerful that it had me gasping in shock.
This is a movie that lingers with you long afterwards.
Aside from a review that gives away the entire plot (with no warning that the review contains spoilers), the reviewer is also not self-consistent.
For example: (and here follows a spoiler)

The reviewer seems okay with the idea that one of the protagonists is clairvoyant, but then nit-picks about jumps in reality such as a blood transfusion vs anti-venom. While you suspend disbelief for part of the movie, you may as well go a little more and just enjoy the movie.

As mentioned in both the DVD Talk reviews of The Air I Breathe, the acting is superb.
That said, my own recommendation of the movie might have to be tempered by the rating of 14 on rottentomatoes.
Anyway, I just hope that more movie lovers might get to see it instead of being put off by the review.

I definitely don't share your enthusiasm for the movie, but I gave it a "Rent It" recommendation because I do think its interlocking storylines and sheer audacity are worth a look. It's definitely a love-it-or-hate-it kind of picture, and I can understand enthusiasm for the film.
As far as what you see as an inconsistency in my review, I'm willing to accept the conceit of a clairvoyant character, whereas the whole snake bite scenario is just incorrect science. I can accept a movie about man-eating robots, but if the same movie ignored the laws of gravity, I'd have a problem with it. Granted, I can see where it might seem nitpicky -- my wife is a pathologist, so I'm probably a bit more attuned to that sort of scientific lapse than I would have been otherwise.
As far as spoilers go, I think I stayed away from any major spoilers -- at least that was certainly my intent.
