Since the old thread was locked due to length I started a new one. Here's a link to the first thread (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=492595&page=1&pp=40).
Here's an updated list of current B&N coupons and codes. Old list can be found here (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showpost.php?p=8698148&postcount=1243). I will update the current list when new coupons are found.
Use one of the following links to get no minimum free shipping and save 5% to 6% on each order at B&N
***Not all store categories are eligible for the offer***
Looks like at this time the offer is restricted to Books, DVDs, Music, Textbooks, and Giftcards. Store categories not eligible are available only at the regular B&N web site. If you try to add an item to your cart not in one of the listed categories from the regular B&N web site it will not allow you to complete check out if you use one of the discount store links listed below. The purchase must be made through the regular B&N web site.
Military.com Bookstore
All customers can use! Use the Military.com bookstore link to save 6% and get free expedited shipping on all orders at Barnes&Noble.com. Thanks to lakeland951 for finding the new link. It appears it is similar to the Visa and Auto Club links but you save an additional 1%. However the 6% discount does not stack with a B&N members discount. Members will get their 10% discount in addition to the free shipping offer.
http://www.bn.com/military
Visa Offer
Here's the 5% Visa link that also offers free shipping on all orders. The link appears to give free expedited shipping on every order regardless of amount and works with any credit card. However the additional 5% discount does not stack with a B&N members discount. Members will get their 10% discount in addition to the free shipping offer.
AAA Members
AAA members now receive an extra 10% on all orders* -- discounts are automatically applied when you check out. Expires ? The 10% discount appears to still be active September 1, but the AAASUMMER9 coupon has expired.
At the moment it appears free shipping on all orders has been suspended, and your order must be at $25 before discounts to qualify. It's possible the free shipping offer may return when this promotion ends after August.
NSCS Bookstore
All customers can use. Here's a new link to the NSCS bookstore that saves 5% off B&N purchases. Thanks to red5bv06 for finding it. Occasionally they offer special promotions for 10% to 15% off purchases. However I noticed you do not qualify for free shipping on all orders like the other discount links mentioned. To qualify for free shipping you need to add $25 or more of eligible items to your cart. Like the other offers the discount does not stack with a B&N members discount. This link is not useful to B&N members on most occasions since your member's discount exceeds this offer.
http://bn.com/nscs
Working Advantage Members
All customers can use. Another new discount link that offers 5% off purchases for non-members. However it does not give you free shipping like some of the other links. It does appear occasionally 10% to 15% off promotions are offered through this link. Thanks to kenbenobi for finding it. This link is not useful to B&N members on most occasions since your member's discount exceeds this offer.

Purchases for this offer must be made between November 20, 2009 and November 23, 2009 at 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time, while supplies last.
It appears this offer is sent to select customers and varies in the amount of the gift certificate depending on the size of your toy purchase. Offers I ran across were $5 GC for a $25 toy purchase, $10 GC for a $40 toy purchase, $10 GC for a $50 toy purchase, $25 GC for a $75 toy purchase, and $25 GC for a $100 toy purchase. If you are interested in this offer I would suggest watching your email closely to see if B&N sends you one.
Here is a sample I ran across:
*Offer Details: This offer entitles the recipient of this email to a free $25 Online Gift Certificate after making a minimum purchase of $100 of eligible Toys & Games in a single transaction only at BN.com. The free $25 Online Gift Certificate will be sent to the email address associated with the purchase and is expected to arrive by December 5, 2009. The minimum eligible Toys & Games purchase must be equal to or greater than $100 before taxes and shipping and handling charges are applied, but after all other discounts -- including the standard Member discount (if applicable) -- are applied.
Eligible Toys & Games are identified with the following icon at BN.com: Toys & Games
IMPORTANT: To qualify for this free Online Gift Certificate offer: (i) you must have received an email communicating the offer directly from BN.com, and (ii) you must also make your eligible Toys & Games purchase online at BN.com using the same email address at which the offer was received. Orders made from other email addresses will not qualify to receive the free $25 Online Gift Certificate.
Returns or cancellations which affect the minimum amount purchased to qualify for this offer may result in forfeiture of the free Online Gift Certificate sent to you at the time your order is placed and you will be responsible to pay for the Online Gift Certificate; we reserve the right to charge your credit, debit, or gift card in the amount of the free Online Gift Certificate and will notify you via email of such charge or debit.

You beat me to it by 1 minute... I was just copying your last post of updated coupons... You're quick, Lasermovies! LOL
Well, it's better if it's your thread, anyway, so you can update the first post with active coupons if you want to. So it's a good thing I didn't...

Thanks, Laser. I think that makes sense. When you update the coupons, maybe post a new message saying the coupons have been updated so we know to look. But that would make it a LOT easier to find the coupons when we need them...

Laser, just another thanks for these coupons. While B&N does not always cooperate with pricing items to get great deals, when they do, that Visa free shipping link and the 15/20/25% off coupons are very clutch. Thanks again.

What did you try to use it on? That may or may not help, but it's a start. The code should still work for a few more days. Since I already redeemed the coupon I cannot verify if it is still active. One suggestion is try adding a different item to your cart as a test to see if the coupon will work with it. If not was there a message giving a reason why the coupon was rejected on the web site? If you can't get it to work the new 20% coupon code X4H8W9U appears as if it was activated a few days early. I tested it on a DVD and it seemed to work fine. But obviously it would be nice to use the other coupon before it expires.

I don't see a reason why those titles would not be eligible with the coupon. I tried the new 20% code which is replacing it and it worked when I added both of those titles to my cart. Was your membership number entered in and correct during checkout? That could keep the coupon from working since it is a members coupon.

If neither is working I wouldn't think there is necessarily a problem with the first coupon. Have you tried the 2 current 15% codes to see if any of them work? I would assume at least the non member coupon would work. Also were you at least seeing a members discount during checkout? One other thing were you going directly to BN.com, or going through one of discount links like the AAA? If you can't get the codes to work you may need contact someone at BN.com to see if there is a problem with your account.
As a last resort you could trying clearing your cache and cookies to see if that has any effect.

Ordered CYE: Season #6, Before the Rain, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters for $63.25 with A8P8N9P. I also used the Visa link but it only seems to have deducted 5% and not the additional 5% for checking out with my VISA card.
Only thing I saw that had a higher than 10% off was Lost: Season #3 at 40%. Like the above poster noted, if anyone else finds anything please post it :).

Sorry for the false (?) alarm. Anyone have any ideas why this book might be excluded?
My reply:
TEXTBOOK EXCEPTION!
Whenever a coupon fails to work for me, I first click on Full Product Details and check to see if B&N has declared the book a 'textbook'. In this case, that's what they've done, and coupons usually don't work with textbooks. (Check item iii under "Additional Rules" on this coupon.)

how come i cannot cancel an order that is scheduled to ship on 8/19/08??
i ordered some dvd's, 3 that are in-stock and 1 that is being released on 8/19/08. i know i forgot to check the split order and thus they will all ship when last one is released, but why would they not let me cancel this order and says it is scheduled to ship and i cannot change? that is odd.

Hmmm, I thought B&N always shipped available parts of the order right away. I don't recall them holding everything to ship at once... If I am right, then you can't cancel the order because they are preparing to ship parts of it. But if I'm wrong, then it doesn't make sense. I would call their 800#. They can sort it out for you...
Unless you pay the extra to split into separate shipments, they always wait until last item is available (including preorders)

I just received an order last week from the B2G1 free sale that consisted of all pre-orders with different release dates. The order did not ship until the last item became available, which was my choice since I didn't want to pay anything extra to ship when available, and didn't mind waiting. However everytime I checked my order up to the day before it shipped I noticed I had the option to cancel all or part of it. Not sure why you cannot cancel anything since it is not due to ship for almost several months. The only thing you can do is call customer service to see if they can help, or at least have an answer why you can't cancel it.
i still can't use X4H8W9U for the life of me. i can get the 15% to work, but not this one. what is up?
I have no answer why you can't use the coupon. But was the 15% code a members coupon, or a non-member? I haven't used the 20% yet on an order, but everytime I checked it with my account it gives the discount when I apply it to an item in my cart. I don't know how widespread the problem is with the coupon not working, but it might be interesting to see who can and cannot use it with their member's account.

Incorrect Tax Rate Charged
Just a heads up... On May 16th I placed two orders with B&N. The confirmation emails I received did not have Virginia tax added (which they usually have). When checking my Discover bill, I discovered that B&N charged me 8.3% tax instead of 5% on those orders. (The result was about a $2.00 overcharge.)
I was told by customer service to email taxes@books.com with the order numbers. It took over a week, but they just informed me that they are issuing me a check for the overcharged amount. I asked why this happened and they said:
"Due to a system error, the incorrect tax rate was applied to the orders... We forwarded the information to the appropriate department for correction."
There's no way of telling the extent of the problem. But if you placed an order on or about May16th, or if your order confirmation didn't have the tax added on, then I'd double-check your credit card statement.

Barnes & Noble seems to be quirky with doing cancellations. I had a Buy 2 Get 1 Free order where I decided to cancel the whole order. It let me cancel one in-stock item, the pre-order item, but not the final in-stock item. (The order was not scheduled to ship for another 5 days.) I didn't want the one item by itself, as that made it more expensive than other sites. Although the item was not scheduled to ship for 5 more days, they said when I called that they could not cancel it. Rather than send it back and make sure it's credited properly, I just decided to keep it this time.

Not that it matters now, but if you go to the listing for the one version of Zodiac that comes up in search, there's a section titled "Other Formats" which is where you can get to the Director's Cut.
Barnes and Noble's website usually only shows one DVD version of a movie when you search. It's kinda confusing.

I think this is an offer B&N sends in the mail to some members to try to get them renew their memberships, and they started calling it a savings card instead of a coupon. It appears they send a online code along with a store coupon. B&N seems to issue one of these monthly, and I noticed recently they started calling it by the new name. Here's a few links to previous offers that are similar to the one you saw. If you notice one month it was a coupon, but the next month it was called a savings card. You're correct it is like a regular renewal coupon. Except there is no printable online store coupon available for this one.

I'll update the information on the main coupon list when I have more time. I was wondering if there was a way to get around that but it appears there is not. I tried adding a game to my cart through the normal B&N web site and then going through one of the free shipping links. The game was still there in my cart but it wouldn't let me checkout. Updated the coupon list. Removed the expired coupons and added several new ones. I found a new 20% code that looks like it will work if you have a Barnes & Noble Mastercard. However it's not active yet on my account. Might be interesting to see if it will work with other credit cards when it's activated. Since there is not a start date listed for the coupon it could get activated anytime.
Also is anyone able to get coupon code C3V4T9A to work on pre-orders? The code was supposed to start working July 16, but so far I can't get it to work on anything I added to my cart that is a pre-order. Unless there is confirmation the code is working I will leave it off the current list of active coupons.

I updated my post since the code is working and I can answer the question about the Visa link. I tested the B&N Mastercard code through the Visa link and it worked fine using my B&N Mastercard. Since I used a non members account for the test a 5% discount, free shipping stacked with the 20% coupon. It should also work with the Military.com and auto club links. I think the big question is will the code work with other credit cards besides a B&N Mastercard, or at least any Mastercard. So far I don't have an answer for that question.

I just placed my first order in a long time. I see that their new system no longer stacks coupons with the member's discount. When using the 20% coupon, plus membership discount, it used to take 30% off of their online sale price. Now it deducts the coupon first, then the member's discount after (which is how it always worked in-store, but online it used to combine them and deduct at once). I know it isn't all that much more (56 cents more in the order I just placed) but it all adds up...
Anyway, I ordered Robot Chicken Star Wars for $8.47 shipped using a 15% coupon, and Heroes S2 for $21 shipped using a 20% coupon...
Office S4 is also at 30% off right now, in case anyone is looking for bargains. I'll be ordering that soon. I still have like $100 in gift cards from them...

I'm confused. I haven't made any purchases since the recent web site upgrades. However, when I add an item to my cart and go through checkout I'm getting the members discount taken off before the coupon is applied. Anyway I compared the discounts to an item I added to my cart to something I purchased back in May. Both items had the same identical price before a 10% members and 15% coupon discounts were subtracted. When the discounts were deducted from the cart item the final price was exactly the same as the May order. I'm not seeing anything different in price calculations with member and coupon discounts. Am I missing something?

Last week, I ordered a $39.99 item that was 15% off and used a 15% coupon and my membership. The discounted cost was calculated like this:
$39.99 - $6.00 (15% off list price) = $33.99 (online price) - $3.40 (10% member discount) = $30.59 - $4.59 (15% off coupon) = $26.00
I noticed this was a little more than my personal calculation (I always like to check using a calculator to make sure the discounts are applied correctly!). For the past few years, B&N would indeed lump the online discount and the coupon together like this:
$39.99 - $6.00 (15% off list price) = $33.99 (online price) - $8.50 (25% discount = 10% member discount + 15% off coupon) = $25.49
Not a huge difference, but B&N have definitely changed the way the discounts are applied. Basically, it looks like any coupon is taken off the member price now, whereas previously the coupon percentage was added to the member discount before being applied to the online price.

Okay now I see what's going on. I went back through my order history and from what I can tell B&N started changing the calculations on orders I placed as far back as April that look like the first example given. Members price was calculated off the online price, and the members coupon discount calculated off members price. Orders from earlier months appeared to get calculated like the second example you gave that combined them together. It doesn't appear the recent web site upgrade had anything to do with the calculation changes since B&N started doing this several monthes ago.

Looks like B&N is offering a new service to let you reserve certain items online and pick up in store if it is available at the store. I would be interested in this if you could get online pricing. So far it appears if it is only being offered in a few store locations according to the advertisement I ran across. I would imagine more stores will offer in store pick up in the future.
There's a convenient new way to shop at Barnes & Noble! Now you can reserve books, DVDs, music, and more online — then pick them up at one of the store locations listed below. Here's how:
Step 1: Locate the product you want on bn.com, then, from the product page, enter your ZIP code in the FIND IT IN OUR STORES box.
Step 2: If your selection is available, click RESERVE NOW and fill out the Reservation Request.
Step 3: Wait for our email confirming that your item is waiting for you — usually within the hour!
Step 4: Pick up and pay for your item at the store you selected.
It's that simple. For your added convenience, we'll hold your reserved item(s) for up to 3 days. Take advantage of this great new service today!
This new service is available at these store locations:
· Augusta, ME - 9 Market Place Drive
· Manchester, NH - 1741 South Willow Street
· Newington, NH - The Crossings at Fox Run
· Salem, NH - 125 South Broadway Route 28

Can't get a coupon code to stack with the VISA or military free shipping link. Worked in the past, guess B&N is tightening their belt?
I was starting to wonder if it was a problem with my account, or a web site glitch. I was having the same problem trying to place an order through the links you mentioned with my members account. Several weeks ago coupons were working fine when I ordered some CDs through the links to get free shipping stacked with a members discount and coupons.
However about a week ago I tried to order the Three Stooges Collection Volume 3 while it was at 30% off, but it wouldn't accept the coupon. The only way I could get a coupon to work was with another account I had that didn't have a B&N membership associated with it. I was able to use one of the 15% non member coupons through the Visa link with no problem. Got free shipping, 10% Visa discount, and the 15% coupon to stack just fine.
I don't know what was going on with the links, but with the members account it looked like the 10% membership discount was stacking with the 10% Visa discount before I tried adding the coupon. Then when I attempted to apply the coupon it wouldn't accept it. Previously you could only get one of the discounts through the links before adding a coupon. Not sure if it is an attempt by B&N to thwart coupon usage by members, or if it is a glitch.
My suggestion to get around the coupon rejection is create a new account without a B&N membership. A non member coupon should work with any of the links. But the Visa link is the best choice since they are currently running a 10% promotion. If you have a B&N Mastercard use the 20% code since it doesn't require a membership. I've already used the 20% code on 3 different accounts, and only one has a membership. However, I'm not sure if it will work with any credit card other then the B&N card.

What's the best way to set up a second account using my B&N Mastercard? Different email address keeping everything else the same?

If you're trying to use a B&N membership on two separate accounts, I don't think that's possible. It's set up where a membership number can only be linked to a single account.
LASERMOVIES

Yes, all you need is a different email address to set up a new account. I use the same credit card and address information on all of mine. You'll still earn the 5% rebate with the B&N card on all accounts.
souvenir is correct you can't use a B&N membership on more than one account unless you purchase another one with a different number. But a membership would defeat the purpose of creating a new account to get around using coupons through the Visa or Military.com links. The way it's working at the moment with the links you actually save more money without having a B&N membership.

Yah, I wanted to do what Laser described. I guess it was my impatience but I didn't wait for a reply and it worked nicely. Using my new non member account I got the VISA discount and a 15% coupon plus I'll be getting 5% back from my B&N CC. Great stuff.

about a week ago I tried to order the Three Stooges Collection Volume 3 while it was at 30% off

I was sort of surprised the new Three Stooges set didn't stay too long on the top 100 bestsellers list before dropping off and increasing in price. I was glad I got my order in before it happened. I have a feeling it will return to the top sellers list in the next few days, and the price will drop to 30% off again if you wait it out.

I removed some coupons today that had just expired but the other ones on the active list were working when I tested them a short time ago. You might want to disclose a little more information on what happened. Do you have a B&N membership and tried using the coupons through one of the links posted on the front page? There does seem to be a problem with coupons working with memberships through the links. However there were also a few reported problems using one of the 20% off codes, but otherwise most of the coupons were working through the normal B&N website.

1 Yes I'm a member and 2) I then click on the Visa link for the 10% and from there I go and put my item I'm wanting in my basket and checkout and 3) I then copy and paste the coupon code in the box. I went through every valid code up to and NOT past today's date in the box and everyone said the same thing "this coupon is not valid with this purchase" or something to that effect.

Thanks that explains it. B&N did something recently so coupons will no longer work for members through the Visa, Military, and AAA links. Believe it or not only a non-member can use a coupon through Visa and the other links now. You either need to order through the regular B&N.com web site with your membership, or set up a non-member account to go through the Visa link to use coupons. We started a conversation on this subject starting at post #92 you may want to check out.

The non-member method is best for items 10% off because I could never get the % VISA discount as a member. For items with a greater than 10% member discount you have to determine what's better free shipping or XX% discount. I think I got that right?
Edit: I guess that XX% should be XX-10 (or 5 if/when VISA drops back), where XX is the members discount.
Edit2: (XX-10)-NMC, don't forget that non-member coupon. Confused yet, I am?

BN.com cashback via Live.com is now over 15% - add that in with the current 40% off sale, Visa link or member discount, 20% off coupon and you can get some very good deals (Like the Seinfeld collection). Some other very high cash back amounts via other sites (most have just recently increased).

You can't. You need to pick whatever is worth more to you. If it is a title that would qualify for free shipping without the visa link, then live.com would be a greater savings (granted, you'd have to wait longer to get the cash back).

Although your link takes me to B&N, I'm not getting 10% off (or ANY discount for that matter, not even free shipping) through it... Oh well, not a big deal. If you have a non-member account code R3B7X4M works with the 10% discount. Like the other links B&N fixed it so members cannot use coupons. However with the NSCS Bookstore link you do not get no minimum free shipping on orders like you do with the Visa, AAA, and military.com links.

At the top of the page you'll see I brought up the same situation and all those links were doing were off setting the free shipping charges. Through the links the coupons were off the MSRP instead of the B&N price. So B&N have now set it up so we now get Free shipping with all our orders. So order going through B&N site [without the links] and then put in the % coupon in, granted it we were all trying to stack them to get a better deal and it's not working anymore.

Top of page? Do you mean post #101? I had mentioned it earlier (post #92).

kenbenobi
09-02-08, 07:29 PM
I don't think he meant for orders under $25... Although for members, it does allow free shipping for $20+ after all discounts are applied, as long as it was $25 before discounts. I just placed an order from my member account for $20.53 and still got free shipping. I figured it was better to use my member account, 15% coupon, and 15% from live.com than any other combination. I added a $2.98 bargain book to the order to achieve the minimum. I will return the bargain book to my local store later :)
You can return anything from an online order, but they will likely give you store credit, and NOT a refund to your credit card (some managers will, but it is definitely YMMV)

I've placed some order with this combination, also. However, I'm not sure if the use of the coupon is going to negate the 15% cashback from live.com later on. I know some sites won't even let you enter a coupon if you go through live.com, but for those like B&N that do, might they "catch" it later even though it presently shows in the cashback account pending 60 days?
In any case, I'm only ordering this way in cases where it's a good deal even without the cashback.

Seems to be a way to allow you to make changes to your membership profile online, but I can't say for sure, as it won't let me register online (probably because the account was under my name and the membership opened in-B&M by my girlfriend). I believe online-enrolled/renewed memberships are automatically registered, which might be why some are registered and can use those coupons without realizing having done anything differently.

More or less guessing since the 25% coupons last year didn't start showing up until around October. A few more weeks we should start seeing some more of the October coupons from B&N, which may answer the question what B&N's plans are for the holidays. The past couple of years since I have been shopping at B&N they have had the 25% coupons during the holiday shopping season. I don't see any reason why they would quit this year. I assume many stores are expecting slower sales this holiday season, and would want to offer some extra incentives to shoppers to start buying.
It would also be nice if there was another 50% coupon as well. I purchased a second B&N membership so I could use it twice.

I can't agree with that. I bought like 8 titles during last month's 40% off sale, combined with my membership and a coupon and live.com's cash back. There are definitely deals to be had. Certainly not off of the non-sale items, but many bargains can be had if you keep your eye out...

Just ordered Dr Who Trial of a Time Lord and 3 Stooges Collection v4. Both are at 30% off right now, plus 20% off coupon and membership makes them super cheap...
My membership expires at the end of the month. I'll have to think about whether to renew or not. I will likely wait until a super deal comes along, and renew at that time.

I've been waiting for the Three Stooges Volume 4 to drop to 30% off. With all my discounts and the 20% members code got it for under $13 shipped. Used military.com to get free shipping. Looks like you can stack coupons with members discounts again through military.com.
I'm in the same predicament with my membership expiring at the end of the month. After it expires I was going to wait to renew until there was something I wanted to buy. I'm thinking of renewing on another account that had a membership that expired earlier so I can use the 20% members coupon again, and maybe use a 20% renewal code if there is one around.

Darn, I still can't use the B&N 20% MC coupon (N7P8K9P) through the Military site (or Visa, either). I'm trying to use a non-member account cuz I need free shipping and already used that coupon on my member account... I was hoping they might have changed that too... I guess I'll just use my member account and a 15% coupon. It's only 1% less so it isn't really a big deal. I just don't understand why they changed it back for members, but not non-members...

With the exception of renewal coupons I wouldn't expect any new 20% coupons until after the current one expires December 2. B&N seems to issue only one at a time with members 20% codes. However hopefully 25% coupons will start showing up before then, otherwise you are in for a long wait. Last year they started showing up in October. When the 25% coupons are around they are usually more plentiful than the 20% coupons.

I would think that a decent coupon will appear before Black Friday (possibly even good in-store). If they don't, then they are foolish. Unfortunately, my membership expires 10/31, and they have not given me a reason to renew. My first year had bargains galore, but this year has been fairly dry. I did have some decent deals, but nothing worth bragging about.

Mine expires on 10/31, too. I've found no good DVD deals in quite a while, but I've picked up some of the B&N exclusive CDs for fairly cheap. I doubt I will renew, either, unless something comes along to persuade me -- like the 50% off when I first joined.

As annoying as the Borders.com website is to use they get most of my business now as they just give better deals for what I want to buy--rather than the selected titles that all sites try to drive you to purchase.
1. They don't charge me $25 for membership
2. They give me cash back on purchases
3. They give 40% off coupons on a regular basis
4. They often mis-price items (in my favor) which combined with the 40% off discount really pays off (e.g. I recently purchased a $150 hardcover textbook which they mispriced at $95--after 40% off I got it for $61.70!!!!!)
5. They sometimes give your unbelievable $5 off an order coupons and then let you ship to store: I created 15 new accounts and then ordered a bunch of Columbia Special Products Jazz CDs (Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, etc.) which I got for 99 cents each !!!!!!!!!
In my opinion there is no question Barnes & Nobles gives better customer service, but in terms of better discounts more of the time I think Borders is kicking their ass.
(Hope someone at Barnes & Nobles starts responding with 25% and 30% off coupons soon!)

Mine also expires 10/31. Coincidence? I think not... :)
So, given that a bunch of our memberships will be expiring around the same time, hopefully they'll come up with another deal to lure us all back.
Overall, I've saved a good chunk of money with the membership, but lately, there really haven't been many good deals at all. Certainly not enough to make me want to renew.

They had an awesome sale back in April. I remember seeing Jag S1 - S4 for like 40 bucks. Only a few orders for me since then. Six months without a major sale is just pathetic and not worth the membership at all. Their new 40 days at 40% sale is one of the worst I've ever seen

Another vote for keeping up the thread...from someone who DID just renew his membership and has found many DVD bargains for BN.com over the last year.
Just in the last month, I've gotten:
30 Rock: Season Two $21.41
Family Guy: Volume Six $21.41
How I Met Your Mother: Season 3 $21.41
Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume Six $34.79
The Man from U.N.C.L.E: The Complete Series $100.79
All cheaper than any B&M "first-week" sale prices.
All cheaper than any other online merchant.
All with FREE expedient shipping, so I've also saved on gas (and impulse in-store purchases.)
Then again, maybe I'm the only one here who thinks 30-40% off list price + 10% off (membership discount) + 15-20% off (coupon discount) usually qualifies as a DVD bargain?
Jim

If you don't mind and have the time, I'd also appreciate it if you continue updating the coupons. I'll be letting my membership lapse, but with the other discounts like AAA and the coupons it's still a viable place to shop. With the combined discounts it turns out to be a great place for Lego sets.

If that was always the case, I would agree with you. Unfortunately, it is not always the case. I think one of the problems is that Blu-ray releases are pretty much at suggested retail price, so even with 10% off for members, and a 20% off coupon, they just come down to regular price at most other online retailers. So, in that sense, it's not worth the membership fee for me.
It's certainly more appealing for US residents, due to the free shipping offer.
LASERMOVIES, please continue to update, as even without a membership, there are still some deals to be found, and the coupons contribute greatly to the savings. Your efforts ARE appreciated.

Hope you can find the time to keep adding new coupons to the list. I'm letting 2 memberships expire on Oct. 31 (added last year for the 50% off coupon but have used them several times since), but I am still keeping my original membership (renewable in Jan.) open for the time being. I can always renew the others if they ever decide to do another great coupon or another B1G1 sale, etc. Even the 40% off sale this past summer and the B2G1 sales had some decent deals, and occasionally B&N will have a new release set at a good price with a decent coupon.

I tried that coupon the other day and couldn't get it to work. Said my purchase was not eligible. After reading the coupon details I figured it was sort of like a renewal coupon and I couldn't use it. I recently purchased a CD and used a 15% code instead. It would have saved me some extra money. Originally I tested the coupon with a $20 DVD and it didn't work. I didn't bother with the CD later because I thought it required buying a new membership. The coupon for some reason doesn't work on any DVD even if it is over the $10 minimum. When I tried several more DVDs today the coupon was rejected during checkout. However I was able to use it tonight on a $10 CD. Even though my members discount took the price under $10 the coupon still gave me an additional $5 off. Ended up paying a little over $4 shipped for it.

I was wondering where any of the 40% savings were since I didn't see any. Most of the DVDs looked like they were only 15% to 20% off. Not much of a sale. I thought maybe the sale hadn't offcially started and the prices would get reduced more than what is currently showing up on the page. What I think this sale is doing is simply incorporating the already ongoing 40% Off Sale. In other words, the only things that are actually 40% off are the items that have been on sale for a couple of weeks now. I'm doubting that anything new will be added. Just my two cents on the ad.

I didn't think it was possible, but B&N just got worse. You can no longer use coupons if you link from anything like e bates, fatwallet, or live.com. If you link from one of those sites, you see a banner on the B&N homepage. That part is handy. But I tried to check out, and it rejected my coupon (it was working fine before I decided to get some cash back on the order). B&N is really clamping down on good deals. It is becoming more and more apparent that they do not want me to renew...

Was the problem related to trying to renew a membership? I just ran a test through e bates and was able to get a coupon to work with one of the 10% non-member coupon codes since my membership is expired. There was a similar problem a few monthes ago trying to use coupons with memberships through the AAA, Military.com, and Visa links. Not sure if it was intentional or a glitch, but eventually the coupons started working again.
I also noticed e bates raised the cash back discount to 8%. I don't know if that is causing the problem on e bates. Have the other web sites raised their cash back discounts?
Edit: I checked live.com and it still is at 6%. FW is 4%.

No, I'm not trying to renew my membership. The problem seems to be related to the B&N mastercard coupon N7P8K9P (which is a non-member coupon). It works fine by itself, but it will not work through e bates, FW, or Live. I'm not sure why they would single out that one coupon to prevent double-dipping, but apparently they have...

If I did it would have been with the members account, and my order would have had to qualify for free shipping. I have no idea why the coupon will not work going through any of those web sites. I wonder if it is the only coupon being effected? Since my B&N membership expired I cannot check any of the members coupons.

I definitely used this coupon through e bates and live in the past, both on member and non member accounts. I never tried FW before. So they definitely changed it. Well, I guess I'm glad they didn't disable it for ALL coupons. Maybe a 25% one will still come along that will work with them. I know, I know, wishful thinking. With Black Friday rapidly approaching, I am losing faith each day that we'll ever see a good coupon again. They seem to be restricting us more and more, and giving us less...
All I can say it, they surely lost a TON of members after 10/31, since soooo many people signed up last year to use the 50% off coupon. You would think they'd try to rectify that situation...

I'm still hoping the 25% coupons are coming very soon now that November is here. A bunch of coupons are expiring November 10, so maybe some better coupons will replace them. But if they don't start showing up within the next couple of weeks I have my doubts since Black Friday will almost be upon us.

The Budd Boetticher set has finally gone to 30% off. I picked it up using the $5 off coupon and the site took the $5 off twice, both as one of my "discounts" (where coupons and membership discounts usually are) and at the end of the order.
EDIT: I wouldn't recommend using the $5 off coupon expecting it to be $10 because my email receipt went back to being only $5 off.
I wanted to place a similar order and get $10 off. Do you know if you were charged $5 more than you expected to pay?

Lasermovies,
Okay, so this is a long overdue thanks for all your hard work at updating all the info about Barnes & Noble. The information that you provide - which is basically never provided by B&N itself - is the only thing that has made the membership worthwhile.
Thanks again for all your hard work and efforts!

FYI, two of the three new Disney Treasures tins are at 30% off right now. I just got Chronological Donald v4 for $17.36 plus tax using the military link and 20% off MC coupon. Even without a membership, this was a great deal. If you are a member, the $5 off P4C4N3N coupon will be a slightly better deal ($15.78 + tax I believe, and you could probably combine with live.com for 10% more

The five disc Warners Frank Sinatra: The Golden Years set is 37% off and $22.67 for members before any coupons.

I think there may be a 25% out there as I noticed in BN today in the Music/Video department at the checkout a lamentated "this week" flyer on the counter advertising 25% coupon (click here for store coupon / online coupon) and 40% off some bestseller or something else. Unfortunately did not have time to ask about it as had to get back to work (just had to do a return).
So I am wondering if this is about to come out.
I hope!!!

They are overdue but I didn't see any new coupons issued for this week even though a bunch of them expired Monday. If someone is in a store I hope you can look for the flyer to confirm what it said. Are you sure it didn't advertise $25 in coupons like this one?
Looks like coupon code L4C7C9Y expired early in the AM Nov 12th, instead of Dec 2nd, darnit.

I have a $55 Barnes Gift Card.
What is my best route to maximize my dollar on Blu-rays?
I am a non-member, so just use the 10% coupon on a new release? Aren't the new release blu's on sale a bit for the first week?

Looks like B&N decided to change the expiration date. The link with the coupon information now has November 12 listed as the expiration date instead of December 2. I hope it is a sign some better coupons are on the way soon.

I never buy blu-ray's at B&N because their prices are too high. But if you are still determined to use your gift card for blu-ray titles you could try 20% code N7P8K9P to see if it works. It's technically a non-member coupon but says it is for B&N Mastercard users. However I don't know if it will work with any credit card. Otherwise go with the 10% coupons since you have no other option as a non-member. Also if you use one of the links posted on the first page you can save from 5% to 10%, plus get free expedited shipping on DVDs. At this point I would wait a while longer to see if better coupons are going to show up.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice.
I just finished a reading intensive grad program so I have no interest in reading books for a bit.
My only other option is Blu-rays. I will keep an eye out.

Currently you can get all 3 Disney Treasure tins for 30% off. However there might be a problem if you order Chronological Donald Volume 4 at B&N. I ordered a copy of Chronological Donald and got the order today, but received Mickey Mouse Club Presents Annette instead. I was going to keep it since I was planning on getting it anyway, and just order another copy of Chronlogical Donald. Initially I thought someone in the warehouse accidentally grabbed the wrong disc without carefully checking the order. But when I entered the UPC to find the title to add to my DVD Profiler list it showed up as Chronological Donald 4. Someone put a sticker on the shrinkwrap which covers up the original UPC for the DVD, but the sticker has the incorrect UPC number. So if you get the wrong DVD it could be because of a sticker mix up. Hopefully whoever is packaging the DVDs catches this quickly to prevent sending out the wrong title.

I was looking over my bank account the other day and noticed a $25 charge from B&N. It turns out that for some reason one of the two memberships I signed up for last year auto renewed on me. I have no clue why one did and the other didn't. I didn't have any options selected to make it do so.
I guess I'll keep it open and wont complain about it, but they darn well offer up some great coupons for me here soon.

Are you sure you didn't select an automatic renewal option on one of the accounts? I noticed when my last membership was about to expire the B&N website asked if I wanted to renew my membership automatically every year, or for one year. I think you can cancel within 30 days and get a full refund. I decided to renew my membership last week and may cancel within 30 days if there are no 25% or larger coupons this year.
I also think I found a way to possibly save a little on purchasing a B&N membership. I decided to renew my membership and went through live.com and received a $2.50 credit. Also because I used my B&N Mastercard I'm saving an additional $1.35 on the membership. If I decide to keep the membership I'll see if I actually get the money or if it is taken away.

I didn't know about the 30 day cancel policy. I should have just renewed before I ordered my Disney tin the other day. Oh well, just one order. I might go ahead and renew then, fully intending on canceling within 30 days unless they start coming out with decent coupons...

I ordered one of each of the three and received two Chronological Donalds. One of them had a UPC sticker outside of the shrinkwrap covering the correct UPC underneath. I figured I'd simply stop by a nearby B&N store on my way home from work today to do an exchange, but not one B&N location in Austin has the Annette disc in stock. So now I have to deal with B&N.com, and it's likely this will happen again.

I'm pretty sure I didn't have an option like that selected.
I didn't know about the 30 day period, and like you LM if no decent coupons show up over the next month I'll likely cancel as well. Besides, we can always sign up again if a really good coupon shows up. :)
