I wonder if that means they're going to re-release their first batch in SD and Blu-ray simultaneously or if they're just going to cull from old releases' extras? It would seem weird to already re-release another edition of Third Man on SD after having this last one not long ago.

If you have a Sam's Club near your location check there first. I just picked up V5 for $24.88 and they had the other 4 volumes as well.
However, that price is ~$40/ea. set which IMO is a bit high based on other sales on these titles throughout the year. Were it me, I would wait.
EDIT -- After seeing a few other replies I actually looked at your location! So Sam's is out of the question. I would still wait as amazon typically puts these on sale for as little as $25 when new editions come out.

And even then, the shipping/insurance would probably eat significantly into your savings.
My suggestion... If you're unwilling to wait 6 months for a possible sale, I would go ahead and buy it.

If money isn't an option or you can't wait, this isn't a terrible price. However, you can find them on half.com, Sam's, Amazon (when they go on sale), and other places for ~$30 fairly regularly.
I've still got two volumes that I'm having trouble unloading for $30 each (Vol. 3 & one other...vol. 2, I believe) at the flea mkt. where I sell them. The other volumes for $30-$35 there or on half.com. Don't know if this helps...anyway, $39 each seems pretty steep to me.

I actually solved this problem with patience. You should go backwards every time it freezes. First I tried to refresh the page which never worked. Instead use the backward keys on the browser and try to do the operation again. It took me a while to get it to work

I was having trouble with this and noticed in the information bar that everytime the system appeared to "hang" it was accessing a page/image at "https://seal.buysafe.com/" or "https://www.buysafe.com/". I use Firefox with the "AdBlock Plus" and "NoScript" plugins (highly recommended to speed up surfing). I added "https://seal.buysafe.com/" to the list of sites to block in ABP and the problems went away. In looking over the list of stuff blocked by ABP I noticed that this site is using Java so I changed the "NoScript" plugin settings to mark the site "untrusted" (I had initially allowed it as it is a security monitoring type site). This also seems to work. Neither choice seems to effect the operation of the site other than to speed things up.

Use it a bit, get used to it, and you'll never go back to IE. You can even get a plug-in to allow those IE centric sites to work correctly in Firefox.

The site kept reverting me to $4.95 shipping. They only allow orders to be cancelled by telephone, and they aren't answering the phone until morning. I don't want to pay 10% on top of an order for shipping just after getting a 20% discount.

Yep, it's back up for me now...I could get the home page to load, but the site always froze up when I tried clicking on the Criterion banner on the right. I wanted to peruse them alphabetically, but I finally justed typed in "criterion" and searched through them in haphazard fashion. Banner still won't work for me, so I gave up on it (that was what made me reach the conclusion that the site was still down).
Anyway, I'd second the recommendations for I Spy. It's a superb show....and a steal for all 3 volumes (especially vol. 2 & 3 at $8.97 for entire seasons). Just a few months back, the out-of-print original releases were sellilng for $100+. Great show, intelligent writing & fine acting.

Can anyone confirm for sure that DVD Planet is OK with users using the "coupon" for multiple orders?
(Has anyone received an e-mail advertisement for this sale that says that's OK?)
It seems everyone has gotten multiple uses to work, but was just curious since their code entry at check-out says coupon codes are 1-time use only.
I'm guessing this the 20% off sale is "special" though.

I've placed three orders so far, all have been shipped, and all the charges have correctly reflected the discount.

Have you tried adding it to your cart with the coupon? People have mentioned that the coupon is working for items released on 6/17. I tried it with Classe Tous Risques (which comes out on the same day) and the coupon was successfully deducted.

Are you entering the coupon when you are on the checkout page? I just tried it and the discount still works! There is actually nothing indicating that the discount has been applied when you enter in the code, except that when the page refreshes the priice for Patriotism has changed to 13.98 and the Furies 22.38

Just tried on The Furies and Patriotism, no dice.
I was also able to get both The Furies and Patriotism to work. The key is to add them to the cart from the search results page and not the individual title's detail page. Why? I don't know. I noticed that it adds a little "(Preorder)" tag if it is added from the details page and I couldn't get the coupon to work but when I added them from the search results page, the little "(Preorder)" wasn't there and the coupon worked no problem. So try that and it should work...
Also, I am wondering if purchases made via PayPal are still eligible for the Frequent Buyer Points or not. I hope so but I know sometimes these kinds of programs may have stipulations that restrict qualifying purchases to those made with a CC or something like that. So does anybody know if my entire purchase will still get all the points even though it was made with PayPal? Because I went with Planet over DD in some cases even if they were slightly more expensive in hopes of receiving the points....Thanks.

A few months ago I called to check the status of an order, and I gave them my name and address. They asked my email address, I told them, and they acted weird about it. I asked what was wrong, and they told me that they had almost 20 email addresses tied to my name and address.
I didn't know what that was all about, but then it hit me. They were seeing all of the GoogleCheckout orders I placed back when that crazy deal was going on at DVDPlanet.
They told me that each account had a small number of points, and if I wanted them to they said they would combine all of the points spread over all of the accounts into just one email address and account, that way to prevent any confusion in the future when I need to call in asking about something. I obviously said that would be fine, they did it for me, and I instantly had about $15 credit because of all of those points.

Edit: DVDPlanet corrected the total points in my account in less than an hour after I emailed them about the error. I love this company!

Yeah, I just saw that in the thread for the CC ad for that week. That's definitely better than I'd get anywhere else, so that's where I'll get it.
I just hope the packaging is better this time around though... I understand that Bender's Big Score was a carbon-neutral release, but you'd think they could still have a little better packaging.

That's interesting, when I asked them over a year ago to do exactly that for me, they told me that cannot combine accounts.. I suppose they found out that they actually CAN do that now...

Same here - I'm missing 77 points. The previous Frequent Buyer point update they sent out to me covered 5/25/2008 through 5/31/2008 - and this one covers 6/8/2008 through 6/14/2008. So they skipped over 6/1/2008 - 6/7/2008.
I sent an email to inform them, hopefully they will fix the problem.

Mine still haven't shipped.
it's been a couple of weeks since my order was placed and it hasn't shipped either. one of the titles i ordered now shows "out of stock" but was showing in stock when i placed the order.
i just hope i don't have to deal with the issue i had last time. two of the titles i ordered ended up out of stock (though they showed in stock when i ordered) and dvdplanet contacted me after over a month to let me know they were out of stock, but expected them in stock soon. after a couple of months and still no stock, i had them cancel those items. i had purchased them with store credit and it took about six e-mails following the cancellation to get the store credit restored to my account. ugh.

Thanks for the info, Krelyan. Yeah, there is something definitely weird going on with this. I checked at Deep Discount, too and they don't even seem to list it at their site. So either both sites have permanently dropped carrying it (possible, but doubtful), it has suddenly gone OOP (haven't heard anything about that anywhere), or perhaps they are now pulling titles from the sale (and website) once they go into out-of-stock status.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's the latter, and the Ozu set will be available again but after the sale ends. That would really leave me ticked off at both DVD Planet and DDD.
I would be interested to see if anyone else's orders for OOS items get suddenly canceled as well.

...I seriously doubt that DVD Planet is going to quit carrying any Criterion titles. So what the hell is going on? Is DVD Planet just blowing off out-of-stock orders now?
I don't think it's the case that they do this with most out-of-stock items, but there are a number of Criterion titles that remain in print, but are no longer available from DVD Planet. Few examples: Wajda box, Under The Roofs Of Paris, Tokyo Drifter, Branded To Kill, Pickup On South St. I couldn't guess why this happens, but it does seem a not wholly unheard of occurrence.
