I do have a question. I wanted to pick up The Crazies and it said it was in stock a couple of hours ago but now it's out of stock. I think I remember hearing that it's out of print now. Whats the odds that Deep is going to be getting this back in stock? I wanted to order Inferno also, but I don't think that there will be any problems with them getting it back in stock.
Ahh these posts always cracks me up. I'm just not seeing amazing savings here. Everyone is so excited about getting a few bucks knocked off retail. lol
The Argento box was going for $42 on bestbuy.com and in store it was $49. Rasputin was selling it store for $39. Deep had it for $30.33. With the 20% it knocked it down to around $24. That to me is a great saving with free shipping.

I've been waiting for the 20% off sale to pick up the Blade Runner 5 disc set (standard DVD), but it's no longer listed on the site. I assumed you must be permanently out of stock, but Buy.com still lists the item as in stock and as shipping through DeepDiscount. Is that a mistake on their part, or might there be a chance I could get the set through you guys with 20% off?

Yeah I'm kind of curious why this is backordered too. Kinda bummed I won't get it with the rest of my order, but I guess for the price I can't complain.
Actually I had ?'s because I wasn't sure if it was backordered or not. Earlier posts said they bought it and it was "in stock" and in my cart it said "backordered" but now that the order is placed it says "processing". If it's on backorder then only that and the Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection are.

This early start of the sale really pisses me off. I had a few HD-DVD titles in my wish list that are now out of stock (along with a few other regular titles as well). I planned to place the order right after midnight when the sale started.
I highly doubt the HD-DVD titles will be restocked, but I placed the order anyway. Let's see what happens. Why was the sale started early????!!!???

I think we might be able to use the codes more than once this time. I placed an order earlier this afternoon with the code DVDTALK, and now have a second order plotted in my cart. I'm logged-in, and the discount still applies when I use the DVDTALK code.
you should use a different code. I believe in the past that this had happened, but after they checked out, discount was gone..

Hey Tony, you are right in claiming that DD's site works out the shipping charges according to the original price and not the discounted price. The issue can be resolved by just sending them an email with details like order# , name and the incorrect shipping charges . The difference in shipping charges is simply refunded back to your card. I've done it numerous times specially during B1G1/B2G1 sales as well as DD's last 20% off sale in November.

FFS, it's like they don't even want Canadian business, now. Those shipping prices aren't just high, they're insane. From $37.95 to $99.95 for going over $300? the $37.95 is bad enough, but $99.95? -screwy-
Ah well, some of the stuff I'm looking at can be had at comparable rates from Amazon with no fear of customs or potential UPS ripoff charges.

We are looking into the issues of missing titles from the site and continue to monitor price matches.
Also, HDDVD titles will be restocked. We will try to remove a title from the site as quickly as we possibly can when we learn that a studio is out of stock.
I also want to address the International customers, in particular the Canadian customers who previously paid a flat shipping rate. Unfortunately we were forced to raise these rates because of increased rates charged to us by the shippers. One thing that was not noted properly on our site, and that we are correcting, is that all international orders over $300 will be shipped via Worldwide Express so you will be getting your orders faster. I am sorry that we had to increase the international shipping rates but unfortunately current conditions require it. This being said, I'm not going to engage in a debate on the topic of international rates or shipping charges. I understand your frustration and I feel it too, but for now I have no alternative.

I expect that, similar to amazon, our rates have increased so dramatically to help subsidize all the free shipping for U.S. customers. I'm a little puzzled how 'the shippers' are charging so much, considering that the orders should ship via USPS. I understand not wanting to use a flat rate, but it really doesn't cost that much more to ship to Canada, and sometimes the same or less, depending on your location.
Oh well, I didn't buy anything during the last sale, but I had planned to buy a couple of things this time. Looks like I'll be buying them elsewhere.

The Jayhawks dvd was $15.53 when it came out on dd, but I was waiting for the 20% off sale, so last night when I saw the sale had begun, I went to get it and I find that it had dropped in price to $12.12! Take an additional 20% and it cost me $9.70! Just think, I went to Bestbuy the day it came out to get it for $14.99 but they didn't have it in stock, so I decided to wait for this sale. Too bad most of the team is leaving via the draft or graduation, at least I can watch this next year to remember the good times!

The HD Star Trek is $64.13 after discount via deepdiscount, and I assume that for anyone in the U.S, we would have to pay S&H for an order from amazon.ca, so at the end of the day, if you are in the U.S., ordering from DD is really the way to go.
It is just nice that this set, regardless of where one chooses to purchase it, is such a great price now, I remember just a short while a go of thinking of picking it up as a gift for my dad when it dropped to $100, glad I waited.
Also, assuming that my order is actually able to be fulfilled, the Ocean's HD trilogy for $30.18 after the discount is also quite the deal. Fortunately, my parents already picked up The Bourne Trilogy in HD from Amazon when it was on sale last year, as I noticed that the HD Bourne's are unavailable from DD.

Regarding price adjusting... Dirt was a whopping 48.xx just a day or so ago. It has since dropped to the current $32.39 price pre-discount. Thanks DD!
Might not pick up too many more titles. The deal is still pretty good but I think what hurts them most of all is the other online stores are getting wise and offering good deals as well now (not to mention DD offers some great deals year round for a lot of items these days...)
I plan on picking up Jericho: The Complete Series when it becomes available, and maybe one or two more blu-ray discs/sets.

Hey Tony, you are right in claiming that DD's site works out the shipping charges according to the original price and not the discounted price. The issue can be resolved by just sending them an email with details like order# , name and the incorrect shipping charges . The difference in shipping charges is simply refunded back to your card. I've done it numerous times specially during B1G1/B2G1 sales as well as DD's last 20% off sale in November.

Why don't they just fix it instead of people having to e-mail them? I'm gonna break my order up into 2 orders just under $150 each.I should be paying $33.90 (which is bad enough) but now I'm paying like $47.90 so they better refund me the extra!

That is why it pays to double-check Amazon before ordering certain DVDs from DD, because even with the extra 20% discount, you might get a better deal from Amazon (some examples: National Treasure / NT: Book Of Secrets Blu-Ray set is $40 at Amazon, but a bit more purchased through DD, and The Godfather Trilogy box set is also less at Amazon).
Still, try beating the post-discount DD price for some brand spanking new sets like Weeds S3 and Rescue Me S4 at other sites...DD's price for sets like these are incredible.

Just wondering if you knew that all the movies in the Harryhausen Sci-Fi pack have recently been released individually in color AND b&w on two-disc sets? I'm pretty sure it's all of them I'd have to check my wishlist.

Nope. This pack has 5 films and only "20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH", "EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS", and "IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA" were given the 2-disk restoration treatment. "THE FIRST MEN IN THE MOON", and "MYSTERIOUS ISLAND" *do* have individual releases but they have not been "upgraded". There was an earlier pack that had only the 3 films which got the restoration process but it was discontinued quite a while back (it also had a booklet about Harryhausen).
Even then, while the restoration on the 3 remastered/colorized films is excellent and the colorization is some of the best I've ever seen the "Chromachoice" process is awful, at least on my players. Lots of people have problems with the way this was done as it *can* cause the "angle" icon to be on the screen constantly or, if you can clear it it reappears every time there is a chapter stop. Read some of the reviews at amazon for more details.
I have the original releases too and still prefer to watch them due to "Chromachoice" issues with my equipment. One day that may change... :)

I also think the sale prices aren't that great. When I can get DVDs from Big Lots for $3, BBV (PVD) for $5- $7, and weekly sales from Circuit City/Best Buy/Target/Wallmart for $5-10, buying online for $11.72 for a movie no longer entices me. Yes, DDD has tons more movies than the B&M stores, but with Blu-ray coming, I really want to minimize my modern film purchases. And with Criterion releasing blu-rays for $40 (the SAME price as their SD versions!) it makes less and less sense to buy the SD version for $20.
Combine that with the sour economy, I am sitting this one out.

I think we can all agree that a good chunk of the titles we're all buying at DD were probably a little cheaper somewhere else at some other time and/or will be a lot cheaper in the future. Speaking of amazon, why didn't the US site offer a similiar deal on Trek HD at that time? It's currently listed higher than the $97 it was at for a long while - about $120 I think - which makes me suspect some kind of discount is coming.

Every sale, I pricecheck elsewhere as I'm putting my orders together. Every sale, including this one, I find some things that are cheaper elsewhere so I buy them elsewhere. So no change. For me, in spite of the exceptions, most things I want are cheaper at DD, especially when you figure in not having to make minimum orders to get free shipping.

The Dario Argento Collection that was just released is a top seller it seems. I know I was waiting for this sale to come along to grab it. I guess that's really not something everyone would want though.

I noticed that some DVD's have "Invertory: Ships directely from the manfacturer". I have never seen that on their site before. They don't stock it, but sell it? I guess it's shipped by a third party. I seem to remember a 20% sale last year being in-store as well, but the lack of any obvious info on the DD site makes me think it's an online/code-only kinda thing.

a few years ago, i disputed a charge from collectors choice music (with good reason, charge was reversed), and from that point on every order I have tried to make on deep discount or on dvd planet has been cancelled. i used to order a lot from them, and have just taken my business elsewhere, but thought everyone should be aware of who/what they are dealing with.......

Man, I loved this show when it was on. I always thought I would catch my neighbor or a coworker. Are these dvds worth getting? When they would rerun the show on Lifetime, I would watch it constantly, but I'm not sure how much replay value the dvds would have. I may go the cheaper "Best of Unsolved Mysteries" route for under $20. I don't really have $70 or so (after discount) to drop on this, but seeing it on your list certainly got me thinking.

My DD 20% off sale orders have been steadily declining, but this one was respectable. Just miscellaneous stuff and some recent Media Blaster anime to fix omissions from the last TRSI studo sale. BTW, all the discounted anime prices came within a few cents of the usual TRSI 46% off [studio+GA] price. Coincidence?
There are still items on my wishlist, but the release dates are all 6/24, so I don't know if I'll make a second order this time around. The only item that DVDPriceSearch reported cheaper elsewhere was Casablanca (Two-Disc Special Edition) [$12.49 Amazon, $16.63 DD]. I was going to pick up the older release of The Indiana Jones - The Adventure Collection, but only the newer release [with inferior extras] is currently available. I have the LDs, at least.

I seem to recall that in a previous 20% sale at DD there were posts about how people who used a code more than once eventually got billed the full price and had to call up and try to reason it out with a CSR. Keep an eye on your order.

If DVD Talk gets credit for every DVDTALK usage, then that would be one reason. Speaking for myself, it's not worth the risk of getting into a discount dispute later on. It seems like the idea of having multiple codes is kind of bogus, though. They are referenced in such a widespread manner, surely they can't give meaningful tracking data for advertising purposes.

Especially when DeepDiscount itself posts all of them in a thread on the DVDTalk Forum. The only thing I can see is if it is easier for them to issue 20 different codes rather than change their system to allow infinite uses of one coupon code.

I've been waiting for "There Will Be Blood" to be released on BD. I was perfectly happy to pick one up at Best Buy when it was released this past Tuesday (three days ago). Then I heard about this 20% sale. So I waited. While working very late last night, I noticed the time on my laptop was after midnight, so I went to DD.com and order that and three other titles. Get an e-mail this morning that "Blood" is on back order, the other three will be shipped today. How in the world can a fairly well known title, that was JUST released, be on back order that soon? Did they ever have it?? I'm pretty steamed. How long are movies on back order with them? If it's long, I'll cancel and just get the damn thing at the store.

I'm not sure how long it will take to restock at this point - but I can say that I ordered mine right after the news of the early start on the sale broke on the evening of June 4th. Get an e-mail this morning that "Blood" is on back order, the other three will be shipped today. How in the world can a fairly well known title, that was JUST released, be on back order that soon? Did they ever have it?? I'm pretty steamed. How long are movies on back order with them? If it's long, I'll cancel and just get the damn thing at the store.
They did start the 20% sale early. If they did get this title, maybe they quickly sold off their shipment in the early going. "There Will be Blood" borders on being an independent film (in comparison of a widely released commercial flick, so they may not have gotten many copies in. Or, maybe their shipment is late. Did anyone else order this and have it listed in stock?

I believe that DD does not carry any titles from New Yorker Video. They don't have Killer of Sheep listed for example ... I also looked for a few in-print titles from New Yorker on Amazon and didn't see them on DD. I don't know the reason.

a few years ago, i disputed a charge from collectors choice music (with good reason, charge was reversed), and from that point on every order I have tried to make on deep discount or on dvd planet has been cancelled. i used to order a lot from them, and have just taken my business elsewhere, but thought everyone should be aware of who/what they are dealing with.......

Please, any answer or thoughts on this question: I noticed that some DVD's have "Inventory: Ships directly from the manfacturer". I have never seen that on their site before. They don't stock it, but sell it? I guess it's shipped by a third party. Anyone have experience with this? How fast the shipping? What time frame. If I paying for IPS 2nd day will it come that fast? The help on the web site doesn't state what that means. Four of my ordered DVD's have that message.

Running out of DVDs...
My orders this time was only $800 (primarily TV box sets), and I can honestly say I am at the point where I just can't make the $2000 order anymore... not for dislike of DDD or price issues, but I am honestly running out of things I want to own. I still have $3k on my wish-list, but those are 'maybe one day' titles - nothing critical, nothing I can't live without (i.e. nothing I want to watch in the next 6 months).
Are others running into this wall as well? I mean, buying movies right now is a crapshoot... like buying VHS right before DVD came out. TV though, or movies which you just don't care about Bluray (do I really need 'When Harry Met Sally' to look that much crisper?)... most of these just don't really matter all that much in terms of format (there are few StarTrek HD examples out there, which really add value for your HD dollar).
So, what is left to buy? My TV seasons are starting to be complete, the shows ended. Each sale brings only a handful of newly released titles... probably better for my pocketbook, but gone are the days of excitement and excess at these sales. In a way, I feel somehow sad for this loss... heck, even the sale thread, once split into multiple parts, is now barely reaching the double digits in pages.

You will be excited to start watching them upon their arrival. Try not to worry about running out of stuff to watch. I'm sure you have plenty to entertain you from this sale. Since investing in High Definition I've cut back on collecting somewhat and I've enjoyed it very much. It is a lot easier for me to enjoy my collection now.

Don't know if they went up but this is what he ordered:

So the first set is cheaper at DD after the discount.
The second set was MIA for a while on the DD site with no indications it would return so I ordered one from another vendor who is having a B2G1 sale and got it for ~$12.00.
To help out a bit, you can easily check a title if someone posts the "studio code" on their order list. Just put the studio code (i.e. COL021104 or other) in the search box and the title ordered will come up.

On the HD DVDs that are listed as being out of stock, if you backorder them, are they going to be coming back into stock? I dont see myself spending any money on this sale this year. My order in November was only $40 total. I bought the flags of our fathers/iwo Jima box set for $32 and I ordered Bugsy $4.79 and Brick $3.19
I have spent usually $300-700 on these sales in the past. My wishlist is also in the $3K range.
There is stuff I want but I have about 150 or so movies I havent even opened and watched yet and whatever I bought now probably wouldnt be watched in a year and prices continue to drop so I can wait on them.
Another reason is dd has better deals throughout the year and 20% off the titles on my wishlist are still not at a price point that I want to pay. Like last november right after the 20% off sale they had BOGO on Simpson season sets and other season sets, I spent more on that sale than the 20% off. .
I spend most of my dvd money with DD and never had an issue with the company, but its just a bad time for the economy and I pretty much am just spending money on food nowadays or deals that blow me away.

I hear you on that, thats how many of the past sales went for me. The last November and this one were special for me though. Being in Iraq, these sales count for 90% of my dvd buying. I don't have the time to spend scooping out the best prices through out the year and picking and choosing what I wait on, so I know I can count on the Deep Discount sale will provide pretty decent prices for me to catch up on releases and blow some money. I have gotten known as the dvd guy here, everyone is always stopping by to borrow random movies from me, got a couple guys into some stuff they other wise would never have watched like The Third Man, Secret Honor, Doctor Who and Kurosawa.
I am not planning to buy much this upcoming November though, since I finally get to go home in December.

Had this not been a recent theatrical release and Oscar winner, not to mention making 40 million at the box-office, I would say maybe. And I would expect this from a *real* independent film like "Snow Angels". Not this. I just called DD. They have no idea when they'll be getting it in stock, so I cancelled my order.

the box set i wanted was in stock yesterday but today is OOS, with a message that it will be in soon, i'll get an email on expected ship, and i won't be charged until it does ship...
if i buy it on the sale, and it ships later than the sale do i not get the discount?...

Be patient...
1. The sale has only been "live" for ~2 days.
2. Lots of people did not know it started 2 days early!
3. People's incessant whining about "prices are higher" and "DD sucks" are banned from this thread under penalty of account suspension. That alone accounts for a estimated 50% reduction in the number of posts.

I just went to Best Buy. They had several copies of "TWBB" Blu-Ray. The sticker was $29.99. But according to their website, it's on sale for $27.99 (I know, two whopping dollars). Still, the same price at DD.com before the 20%. So if you go to Best Buy, make sure you make them ring it up with the proper sale price.

Hey Tony, you are right in claiming that DD's site works out the shipping charges according to the original price and not the discounted price. The issue can be resolved by just sending them an email with details like order# , name and the incorrect shipping charges . The difference in shipping charges is simply refunded back to your card. I've done it numerous times specially during B1G1/B2G1 sales as well as DD's last 20% off sale in November.

In DD's defense, they're trying to walk a fine line of being fair to themselves and international customers. Shipping isn't cheap to other countries and instead of doing a 1 disc = x amount, the're dong total amounts, which I think would be a better deal for the buyer. I realize that the shipping is killing the 20% "deal" for customers in Canada and such but I think it's fair to assume that since DD is making less per title/order during the 20% off sale that for them to eat some of the shipping costs will kill profits for them, too. Don't get me wrong, I know it sucks paying international shipping as I've ordered things from Japan, Germany, UK, Australia and Canada and have felt the pinch.

Don't know if they went up but this is what he ordered:
"The Three Stooges Collection - 1934-1936" - $17.37 ($13.90 w/discount)
"Three Stooges Collection (1937-1939)" - $19.61 ($15.69 w/discount)
So the first set is cheaper at DD after the discount.
The second set was MIA for a while on the DD site with no indications it would return so I ordered one from another vendor who is having a B2G1 sale and got it for ~$12.00.
To help out a bit, you can easily check a title if someone posts the "studio code" on their order list. Just put the studio code (i.e. COL021104 or other) in the search box and the title ordered will come up.

I emailed DD yesterday and they emailed me back today.I should be paying $16.95 instead of $23.95 but the email pretty much said they won't change it.I wonder if I called them, if I'd get a different result? What's their customer service #?

I have been a regular customer of Deepdiscount for past 1 year. I wish to report an error(bug) in the calculation of the shipping charges at your site for international customers.
Whenever a deal like Buy one Get One Free or Buy Two Get One Free is on offer, the shipping charges levied for international customers is incorrect.
For e.g. the ongoing offer on Buy 1 Get 1 free Anchor Bay titles , i wish to order both the volumes of Bava set (Bava set Vol.1 and Bava set Vol. 2) priced at 30.38 each. The total value of the order comes to 60.76. The shipping charges shown are $12.95 which is correct since my order value is between $50.01 and $100. If i apply the concerning coupon code, the order value plummets to 30.38 correctly. However, the shipping charges do not drop to $8.95 (applicable for order values between $25.01 and $50). This results in international customers paying more shipping charges. This error has been there for a while. I have to make long international calls to explain it to the customer service representatives every time i wish to place such an order. It would be really nice if you guys can fix this error asap.

The correct order value is $45.36 after applying a discount of $30.38.
Yet, i have been charged $12.95 shipping fees whereas it should have been
$8.95 for the international order since order value lies between $25.01-$50
and not between $50.01-$100.

they are going to refund my incorrect shipping cost also, but took a couple of emails. made it seem like is a hassle to them and my problem not theirs...here's the last one:
As a one time customer courtesy we will refund the 3$ USD to your credit card once this order ships. Please be advised for any future orders the shipping is accounted for before the discount.
