Indy was down about 60% Friday to Friday, which wouldn't be a huge surprise for a summer movie except that it did open on a Thursday, which helped ease iit of some front loading. Sex and the City opened enormously and The Strangers is doing very well on its $9m budget.

I think the distributer on Sex and the City is wrong (I just put HBO), for some reason BOM has SEX AND DEATH 101 listed as #1 (a 2007 release starring Winona Ryder and Simon Baker)

Sex and the City's Friday numbers have analysts suggesting a $70m opening weekend, which doesn't sound off. If the $26m holds for Friday, that means it has to averages $22m on Saturday and Sunday, which is possible. Personally, I expect it to finish up around $60m (heavy front loading + R rating should bring Saturday and Sunday down a good deal), but that's still pretty insane.

The Stangers currently has great word of mouth and it's going to have some legs from it.

Most of the people I know who have seen it liked the movie and even the few I know who didn't like it will admit that it had scenes that were genuinely scary.

Sex and the City is a New Line release. Ironic how Warner took over New Line when their films are doing just fine.

Wow. Looks like most people were wrong about this weekend's b.o. SatC is going to open much bigger than anyone, myself included, expected. I really didn't see Indy coming in at #2 in it's 2nd weekend. Strangers was on tap to pull in around $10m, so I'm glad to see it's doing better than expected.

Well, obviously I just don't get it. I don't understand the appeal of Sex and the City. You'd think that EVERY viewer who watched the show on HBO bought a ticket last night from those numbers.

Well, at this point all I know is that I'm going to give Indy a (very) small boost tomorrow afternoon...

Thrilled that Baby Mama is still chugging along in the top 10. Funniest movie I've seen in years.

The show, at it's peak, had 10 million viewers.

10 million viewers x $10.00 = $100,000,000

Don't forget about the people who discovered the show through DVD or even it's edited syndicated/TBS airings.

One has to wonder about repeat business with SatC. Looks like a very strong weekend, so they probably don't care.

So many posts last few weeks saying how SitC would bomb or make a minor showing.... as said before "You really don't understand women !"

And i'll probably add to the numbers tomorrow as the GF wants to see it (not against seeing it, although probably wouldn't on my own)

Well, I thought the same thing about "The Simpsons Movie" when it blew the roof off the box-office. How in the world could a film of a TV show that had been on for 18 years do THAT kind of business!? And I'm the biggest "Simpsons" fan around. I just thought the show was past it's prime to get a big screen treatment. I thought the movie was lame btw.

Now that "SATC" has done the same, look for that "Sopranos Movie" announcement soon. Just wish "Six Feet Under" hadn't ended the way it did, or we could have a seen that on the big screen too. At least I would have liked that.

And yet the people will push it towards $300 million in the US.

I'm not surprised Sex and the City did so well. I'm VERY happy for it too. I loved the show, saw it yesterday in the afternoon...theater was packed. I heard they are thinking about doing a second movie too, and by the looks of it that could be a real possibility. In any case, I hope it doesn't fall off too much...while I do like Indiana Jones, I actually liked this MUCH better and am glad it beat Jones this week.

And I agree with whoever said something about Baby Mama. I really enjoyed that movie.

Who says it's going to make that much? The anticipation for the movie was off the charts which gave it the strong first week. The following weeks are more telling.

Not when Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, a green giant, Pixar, gunslinging assassins and a CGI cartoon with a damn near oppressive level of promotion are waiting in the wings.

Could it be perhaps that everyone saw it from Thursday-Monday last week?

Everyone?? Find that a little hard to believe. If we weren't talking about an Indiana Jones movie, would you say the same thing?

When the film does $151 million in five days? Yes. I'd expect a huge drop off for 90% of the films that do that kind of business.

I believe if people loved it so much, they would have seen it again and again and again. This is huge franchise afterall. But it doesn't seem to be the case here. And Crystal didn't have any big male-driven competition in its second week as an excuse.
