SEX AND THE CITY: THE MOVIE- Reviews/Discussion Thread

It seems that there is not a lot of love here at DVD Talk for Sex and the City.
However I think a thread is needed for people who are interested in this film. The DVD Talk film review of this is pretty positive so that is good.
Currently at 59% positive reviews at Rotten Tomatoes with a tally of Fresh Reviews: 41 Rotten Reviews:29.

I love the show. Definitely one of my top ten favourite television shows of all time. I'm seeing it tomorrow and will post my thoughts when I return from the movie theater.

One thing that strikes me as odd is the runtime: 2 1/2 hours!

This is a comedy, not an epic godfather film for christs sake.

Fandango lists it running 2 hours and 15 minutes. No big deal. "Knocked Up" was 2 hours and 12 minutes. I don't see a problem with the running time. As long as it goes by swiftly.

^A few reviews I read said the 144 minute running time does NOT go by quickly.

My expectations are pretty low, honestly, but I didn't think the series was so bad. I can see why it has a large female fan-base.

Okay. How about 90% girls, 9% gays, and 1% guys?

Definately a 'my girlfriend made me go with her' film.

Definitley not an argument in its favor. Knocked Up was easily 30 minutes too long.

Yep, my girlfriend is making me go with her. Although I will confess I have the show on DVD and it's pretty good.

I'm probably gonna be the only guy in the theater who actually has to drag their girlfriend to Sex and the City. My girlfriend never watched the show and doesnt seem to care about it and Im all excited for the movie and shes just like whatever. I told her you better be excited for this cause I dont know when the next time I'm going to take you a chick flick will be.

The only truly pressing question is: Who gets nude?

My wife and I were both big fans of the show, but for some reason neither of us have a desire to see this. I don't know if its just because the show has been over too long or something else, we just can't seem to get into it.. Of course my wife did drag me to Made of Honor, and I think I lost a bit of my life on that one.

That was my question too, given that it's rated R in part for "graphic nudity."

Reviews have not been too good, but let's face it: this is pretty much critic-proof.

Kim Cattrall probably. She was the most willing to shed the clothes.

Glad to see there are other straight guys out here who enjoyed the show a lot. I'm gonna go and see it at 3:30 today, try and avoid any crowds that will be hitting up the theater tonight.

Yeah, but there's abundant younger Kim Cattrall nudity out there on DVD. I was hoping for some Kristin Davis.

Does anybody think this might be the top of the box office this weekend? At first I really doubted it, but just looking at fandango, there are already theaters that sold out for this evening, Indy didn't even sell out this early in the day in my area when it came out last week. Also if you look at the listings for Arclight in L.A. all the evening screenings are sold out for today and Saturday.

I want to watch this movie, but I'm going to wait until it dies down. Because I think the theaters will be filled with annoying chatter and laughter that occurs when my girlfriend hangs around her girlfriends.

I started watching this on HBO on Demand, but for some inexplicable reason HBO jumped from season one to season four. That was really annoying. Now I think they also jumped to the last season. Thanks for helping me catch up before the movie shitheads.

However my girlfriend is dragging me along her best friend and her best friend's boyfriend. I thought the show was pretty funny so I just hope I'm not clueless about what's going on.

I think only whores and gay men will care about seeing Sex and the City. I sure hope Indy will still be #1 this weekend.

I love how everyone assumes that only 'gay men' will go see this. I'm not gay and I actually like the show...there, I fucking admitted it. I don't know if I'll see this theatrically and I do hope Indy is still #1, but I'll have to go to an out of town theatre apparently because if anyone I know sees me there (I know most of the employees, I go a lot) based on all this talk and media talk they will clearly think that I'm gay... WTF.
