"good movies" that you're no longer attatched to, do you still buy the DVD?

Recently I've purchased online the movies Digging to China and Harriet the Spy. Both of which I liked when I was younger (meaning somewhere between five to ten years ago I did like these movies,...I remember from ages 11 to 13 being obsessed with HTS). And yet since buying the dvds,..(especialy HTS, which I was attempting to watch today), I found little attraction to watching it. I remember having fond memmories of it years ago...and yet today I watched about a half hour of it and thought "nah! this is a kids' movie." Even tho I'm sort of compiling a collection of movies to show to any potential future children,...I was hoping I'd still feel an attatchment to these movies myself... now all I feel is "yeah, HTS is why I started writing journals".... and so I took that DVD out and proceeded to watch half of "Rent" which I'll probably finnish tomorrow.

Anyhow...do any of you have any simular experiences with movies where you just don't feel attatched, or enchanted, ...but yet you know they're good movies?

Recently purchased the Back To The Future trilogy boxset, I remember thinking there were awesome when I was younger. However, after watching all three again,I simply couldn't get into it as much as I anticipated even though I havent seen any for a decade or so.

Thats not to say they're bad movies!

I kinda just had the same experience with "Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade." When I was younger, it used to be my favorite Indy movie. I never bought the DVDs, and I thought about buying LC, but decided to check it out on Sci-fi the other night. I'm glad I did, because the only part I actually like is the last 45 minutes or so. It's still a good movie, but I'm glad I didn't buy it.

Star Wars (the original 3). Loved them but seen them so many times I don't have much desire to watch them anymore. I did watch the set once after I got it but not much interest in watching them again anytime soon.

Maybe Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will get you back into the original movies?

Why would I spend money on something I don't want to watch?

I've been guilty of owning titles that "meant" something to me, even if I no longer found those particular films particularly watchable for some reason.

It was just the comfort of knowing I had them. Weird.

Lately, however, I've been undergoing a purge of titles I don't need, so my mindset has changed somewhat.

There've been a number of movies that I could quote backwards & forwards when I was a teenager & watched anytime they aired on cable movie channels; Blues Brothers, Stripes, etc. Bought some of the DVD's but they no longer floated my boat quite so much. Happens to near everyone. Nostalgia is crap.

Worst offender was Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I found myself wishing Mr. Hand would whip out an automatic. DVD was stolen & I didn't miss it. And the one from that bunch that seems to have held up best was probably The Shining.

ive found that alot of resent comedys ive enjoyed within the last 4-5 years dont hold up the second viewing when ive bought them or rented them on DVD.

ex. walk hard, 40year old virgin, superbad, wedding crashers, reno 911: miami

as for childhood dvd that doesnt hold up anymore, id have to go with batman (1989)
i use to love that movie, i watched it resently and i just felt it was 'okay'

It's possible. I just never got all that hooked into the Indy movies, and if it didn't happen then, I don't know how likely it is now. I'll probably enjoy this one because it's "new" and probably a lot bigger than the first three.

I resent most of those comedies too.
