Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in Pre-Production

http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/beyond-good-...tu-139816.html

Here's a clean translation from Stumpokapow, a NeoGAF member:
During an interview with our compatriots at JeuxVideo Magazine, Michel Ancel (father of Rayman) declared that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is actually in the pre-production phase. Considered one of the best games of 2003, Beyond Good and Evil unfortunately did not achieve the expected level of commercial success. "I'm working on Beyond Good and Evil 2. We've been in pre-production for a year, and we're mainly doing R&D with a small group. But for now, we're in the 'outline' step. Ubisoft has not greenlit this project," Ancel admitted during the course of the interview. He also noted that from 10 to 12 people are working on the project.

"We want to continue the style of the original: a great variety of gameplay types, lots of emotions in the gameplay, and engaging characters. This time we're going to examine the future of the planet, how the animals get along [...]". Sounds enticing, doesn't it? We hope at any rate that the French game company will rapidly greenlight the project. And why not announce this at the upcoming UbiDays event?

It'll be tough to decide between this and Duke Nukem Forever come release day.

Don't be. It basically means "hasn't been formally announced."

If this get's canceled, I will personally blame you for ruining that day of my life. I would probably not have heard this if it wasn't for you.

You could try blaming me but I'll be too busy with a cyanide capsule to notice.

Coupled with the talk by SK recently about wanting to revisit the Eternal Darkness universe, it is good that developers are not forgetting some of these "cult classics".

Who do I talk to at EA about a proper Wing Commander sequel, now?

Completely unrelated information:

Ubisoft Montpellier hasn't developed a game since Raving Rabbids on Wii (published in 2006).

The Ubidays event in France, where Ubisoft Montpellier is located, is May 28th and 29th.

If it comes to be a reality I'll definitley get it. I was one of those who found this title in the bargain bin for $9.99 and was totally blown away.

Yeah, I got the game for dirt cheap too, and I would definitely buy this on release day. Hell, I would even buy a console I don't have just to play it. I want this that bad.

Maybe this can find an audience the second go round (though I have my doubts).

I think the movie studios often have a better measure of cult status than Video Game producers due to DVD sell through and rentals. Because VG have such a short shelf life (especially when not successful), I'd guess the VG companies have to rely almost entirely on internet buzz to decide if a sequel is finacially worthwhile -- and announcements, leaks, and interviews like the this are probably what they use to decide if it's worth it.

Eternal Darkness would make me so happy.

Imagine the insanity effects on the 360 version.... if they could send a signal to emulate the red rings for like 20 seconds.....

But this time, I would not want to know what the sanity effects are ahead of time. I screwed up be reading too much about the game before playing

Yeah, i had only known about two of them ahead of time but they were the coolest of the effects imo. ED was the only game i have ever replayed for different endings.

Dyack was on a recent podcast to promote Too Human and ED came up. He teased it saying they would love to do it and that outside of TH they have a couple unannounced projects in the works as well. He also said Nintendo was a silent partner (for the game? or Silicon Knights? Unsure on that one).

Like some of you Eternal Darkness and Beyond Good & Evil are two of my favorite games from last gen. Toss in Prince of Persia and you'd probably have my top 3 from last gen.

Loved both ED and BG&E and would gladly buy sequels for both games. Still own the originals on GameCube.

I never played the original Eternal Darkness but I've heard great things. I'd be very excited for a 360 sequel!

Looks like if BG&E2 happens it will be on the 360 and PS3.

Now I'm torn. It will look fantastic and have traditional controls, but a part of me wonders what a Wii version would have been like, since the game is basically a Zelda clone.

It would be a strange decision, for more than one reason.

Works for me. I just hope they don't go all Prince of Persia 2 on us and try and make the game more "adult" or "gritty" to appeal to what's popular right now.
