1080p Plasma @ 1024x768 / 1920x1080?

Are there any visual differences between 1080p images at the two resolutions indicated? What differences do I need to take note of between Plasmas for both resolutions? Thanks!

768 < 1080 - so in that mode it's not running 1080p.

This is the info page for the Plasma I'm looking at:

http://panasonic.com.sg/web/pid/3021

It says it takes 1080p signals. I will be going to Asia soon and am looking to get a flat panel TV. The next Panasonic 42" which is 1920 x 1080 is twice the price.

not worth twice the price. at 42" your eyes cant differentiate anyway.

save your money and get a blu-ray player.

So 720p is still fine for 42-inchers? At what sizes does 1080p come into play? 50"+?

I don't know, twice the price, nearly trice the pixels. Seems fair. BTW, why would a 1080 player matter if a 1080 TV doesn't?

1024x768 is a computer resolution, not well suited for HDTV. It is also a 4:3 resolution, certainly not suited for a widescreen-shaped TV.

Now, if you were comparing actual modern-day plasmas, you'd compare 1280x720 & 1920x1080. Then it probably wouldn't be worth getting the 1080 at 42", as mentioned above. Although I gotta say, the 42" 1080 Panasonic plasma that a family member just acquired looks damn fine.
