I like how the New Beverly Cinema does double features of old movies (or maybe even ones from a few years ago, but in a double feature) and the Nuart does midnight shows each Friday of old movies.
Any other theaters in the surrounding Los Angeles area that are like this?

American Cinematheque does film series & double features at the Egyptian.
FYI: the Aero has some great John Carpenter double-bills coming up in June. The New Bev is my favorite theater. I'm there as often as I possibly can be.

I love the shows at the New Bev, but god is that theater in awful shape. I think they're doing some renovation work on it, and once that's done, I'll gladly head back there more often. But for my money, the American Cinematheque can't be beat.

I didn't see them listed on the website... Which Carpenter films will they be showing?

You should check out the Silent Movie Theater (http://www.silentmovietheatre.com/calendar/index.html), the LACMA (http://www.lacma.org/programs/FilmSeriesSchedule.aspx), AMPAS (http://www.oscars.org/events/index.html), and AFI (http://www.afi.com/silver/new/).

Is the Rialto in Pasadena still in business? last I heard it was operated by the same company as the Nuart.

I think the Rialto shut down, but I could be wrong.

Actually, they already did the work. New sound system (which still isn't very loud), new a/c unit (now with heating!), new screen and new toilets. Plus a new paint job. Now if they could just get the $100K needed for new seats we'd be all set.

Yea, they're not up yet, but it will be:
• Friday, June 13: THE THING and THE FOG
• Saturday, June 14: ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and ESCAPE FROM L.A.
• Sunday, June 15: HALLOWEEN and CHRISTINE
• Wednesday, June 18: BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13
And Carpenter is scheduled to be there for the first two of these double bills. I'll be going on the 13th and 18th for sure. Possibly the 14th also.
