Upcoming 3D Horror Films: 2009
As the Digital 3D trend is getting into full swing, and the first live action feature length film comes out this summer:
'Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D', the horror genre for 2009 looks ilke this
Final Destination 4
My Bloody Valentine
Piranha 3-D
gonna love the various weapons, body parts and, ahem, fish flying at the face of the audience.
Unfortunately, one of the few older films I'd love to see in 3D is getting shown at the AFI Silver next month (ahem, June, Friday the 13th) but not in 3D, they don't have the right screen to show this in polarized form
I'd love to see some of the studios go back and digitalize films like these and give them a theatrical rerelease.

Also recently announced is RELENTLESS, a 3-D "Cannibal Holocaust" type of thing, and THE MORTICIAN. The completed SCAR is also awaiting release.
Back in the 80's I thought PIRANHA 3-D was a better idea than JAWS 3-D, so hopefully it will turn out better than that did!
I've heard a digital re-release of FRIDAY THE 13th PART 3 for midnight shows, etc has been discussed since the revival showings seem to sell out whenever they happen. Warner and Universal should consider doing a couple of their bigger classic titles also in the next few years.
There are literally almost 50 3-D projects in various stages right now; and I for one and glad some of them are horror films!

Thanks Steve for the response, I knew you'd give your two cents and it's appreciated, nearly a hundred views and no one responded - hmmmm, 3D film don't seem to elicit any comments or reactions - sad.
'Relentless' sounds cool. Karl Urban's in it - I'm there
teaser's for next year's release of 'Coraline' sound interesting but I gather from what I've read, it's not horror.

Giles, I think most people don't expect them to be in their area.
Final Destination 4 actually sounds like a great idea. The whole series is a gimmick anyway with the Rube-Golderg-like things that happen to kill people. I think it would be a lot of fun in 3D.
I doubt I'd see any of the others.

as for Final Destination 4, it seems like a logical progression for this series to be this "gimmicky" - and I'm all for it. I actually saw FD3 at King of Prussia on their IMAX screen, and while it wasn't in 3D or even filmed-processed to IMAX/65mm, the experience and total in face assualt was exhilerating.

^ That sounds pretty damn cool. I'm not sure if it's that necessary, but I'm willing to give it a shot. There are some great gags that could come off pretty awesome if they get it right.

the My Bloody Valentine remake is a Lionsgate release.

Some of that work was completed, and eventually, the SW 3-D project(s) will surface. When enough theaters are ready, it will happen. Regal just signed a deal to convert another 1500 screens in their chain alone. Exhibitors are making the investment, and the studios are going to follow through with product.

AMC is also supposed to be aggresively upgrading it's theatres to DLP/REAL-D, but here in the DC area it's at a snail pace - supposedly the theatre near my home, has a new system up and running, but they keep on changing the damn films from auditorium to auditorium thus preventing the hard disc DLP movie (Iron Man) to ever get shown as such - what's the point, they might as well have two DLP units, to solve that problem.
The two Consolidated theatres here in the DC area (Alexandria/Silver Spring) have been bought by Regal - so I'd assume Regal would be keen on upgrading at least one screen in both locations to showcase 3D films.
