In my Sunday paper there is the 'Parade' style USA Weekend included, on page 5 there is a full page ad for The Golden Compass. At the bottom is a coupon to save $5 instantly either the DVD or Blu-Ray versions of the film.

Coupon good only from 4/29/08 thru 6/1/08

On the cover of the USA Weekend "magazine" (or whatever you call it) is 3 people inside a home being built and a headline of "Make a Difference Day Awards"

Thanks ! Usually I don't find these coupons until it's too late. Deciding on either getting the 45 mins extra version (SD) or Blu-Ray. Anyone know if Blu-Ray has extra length as well ?

the 45 minutes of extra length is on a separate disc. It's not extended into the movie at all. so no difference in terms of the actual playtime between the SD and BD

Any one have a scan of it, if possible?

^ I would but I don't have a scanner at this time. I will tell you that the coupon is Golden in color with white lettering, the small print is very difficult to read. The codes are as follows.

5 9404310074 7 (8101)0 10025 0608

Plus there is a sweepstakes shown on the same page with a link of www.usaweekend.com/compass

This same coupon is in People this week as well. "World's Richest Kids" is on the cover.

Now if there was only a good deal on Golden Compass blu-ray to use this on.

Yes, I would really appreciate it if someone could post a scan...could not find the USA Today magazine today. Golden Compass was flawed but for $10 it is worth a buy.

I think the cheapest BR copy of Compass is at Costco for $26.99. I've never tried a (non-costco) coupon at a costco, do they accept them?

No--Costco only takes their own coupons.

Sweet. Thanks, davron.

Will combine this with an RZ coupon and pick up the 2-Disc edition (w/ bonus disc) at Best Buy for 12.99.

Use an image editor. -confused-

I'm an old fart and that doesn't tell me anything except to edit a photo or whatever. I don't have any programs to edit photos or the likes there of (to cheap). If someone is going to place it on here then I'll wait for that kind person to do so since I found the site. Never had the time to learn any of the editing programs since I don't own any. They were all on my old hard drive before it got infected with a virus and I lost everything.

I wonder if you can combine it with the Target $5 off coupon? That would bring the blu ray down to $19.99.

Tried it at Wal Mart this morning. The clerk said that because the picture (1 disc) didn't match that of the 2-disc I wanted, I couldn't use it. A manager then came over (which I was hoping would be a good sign to allow me to use the coupon), and she said that Wal Mart does not accept Internet coupons anyway.

Thanks for the heads up on this coupon! I am going to give it a blind buy based on William Donahue's recommendation.

Thanks for the heads up on this coupon! I am going to give it a blind buy based on William Donahue's recommendation.

Quick aside: I predict you'll be disappointed. Movie weakest of the last several years fantasy-type films. Very mediocre film. Had potential, but poor execution.

On topic: I will seek the coupon to buy the store exclusive(s) of course.

Just used the $5 off Scanned coupon (didn't have a chance to try to track down an original in the paper, etc.) at Best Buy for the 2-Disc Golden Compass plus Bonus Disc. They tried scanning the coupon a couple times and then had to call a manager who told them to hit the manufacturer's coupon button and put in the $5 amount. Thanks for posting the scan, it worked!

For those of you that used the scanned coupon successfully, how were you able to get a good printout because the small type listing the details of the coupon are so blurred?

Any help greatly appreciated as I am going in a couple hours to buy a copy too.

Thanks!

I used the sharpen tool in open office a couple times on the individial coupon scan to make the text a little clearer, but the fine print was still not very readable. We printed out the full sheet scan (didn't sharpen this) and the individual coupon scan and brought them into Best Buy, they didn't try to read the fine print at all and just tried scanning the Barcodes from each coupon and it came up as invalid codes. That's when they called the manager who just said to hit the manufacturer's coupon button and put in the $5 amount. I hope this helps!

used it at fye in combination with an in store rebate. that theoretically brought the 2-disc price to $10.99 ($8.99 for the 1-disc), IF the rebate actually gets processed.

Thanks everyone! I am going now and hope it works. *keeps fingers crossed* :) The coupon would make this purchase much more reasonable. If it wasn't for the bonus 3rd disc at BB, I'd go with FYE too, as the mail-in-rebate would be helpful. (That is if it arrives.) I still have yet to see my first rebate yet, for Sweeney Todd but I hear it takes a good 1-2 months at least usually. So here's to hoping!

Warning: Only click if you have already seen the movie in its entirety. (Please do not click if you haven't seen the movie.)

Has anyone heard whether there will be a sequel to the Golden Compass? I actually enjoyed the film A LOT, but am quite hesitant on buying the DVD on account of the ending. The "ending" felt EXTREMELY rushed with no real solid conclusion. At least not in the visual sense. The entire movie felt exactly like part 1 to a two part movie. Bottom line, I think there NEEDS to be a sequel even if its a direct to DVD offering.

Picked up the one-disc at circuit city with coupon for a grand total of $10. I'm nowhere near a fye, and i'm kinda short on cash, so I didn't get the two disc. But also, if I know New Line, I smell a three disc extended/director's cut maybe come christmas, in which case I'll get that.

Props though for those slipcovers, all versions are very nice imo.

for sure. with unused footage (the book ending) and likely no sequel, i also smell an extended version on the horizon.

Pricks at CC said they didn't accept coupons. They said that they were only good at grocery stores and Target....Guess I'll be going to BB. Serves me right for trying to buy something from there again.

good news! i got the best buy exclusive 3 disc (packaged inside) for $22.99 - $5 coupon! she didn't even look at it and just manually adjusted on the register. easiest coupon i've ever used! thx everyone esp the wonderful posters!

I would have gotten that 3 disc had I not been short on money and had I not forseen the future. You have pics of that three disc? I'm eager to see it.

Also PrincessJen CC is terrible most of the time. When I went in today, I think there was 10 people there total. Oh, and only 4 of them, including myself, were customers. Shame. Oh well though.

Don't have the ability to post a pic of the case itself, but I did a quick internet search and this is the type of case mine came in except it's white.

Before I head over to BB, for the people with the original scan, is there a provision which says "no copies" allowed? I can't read the stupid thing! :)

Best Buy took the internet printed coupon without any problems in Chicago (North/Clybourn). I also went to the Circuit City to pick up the single disk - the cashier manually took $5 off - their screen shows [COUPONS] and she manually put in 5.00.

So thanks OP for the coupons!!!

At my Target in Durham, NC they accepted the $5 coupon without any fuss (and it even scanned properly). Even though it's been three weeks since TGC was released on DVD, I managed to snag the single-disc edition for $14.99 (although you lucky impulse buyers saved even more on release date).
