All will be presented in anamorphic widescreen. Here's a rundown of what each set will contain...

Lost: The Complete Fourth Season - The Expanded Experience will include all 14 episodes on 5 DVDs (SRP $59.99) or 5 Blu-rays ($96.99). Extras will include audio commentaries, bloopers, deleted scenes, 5 featurettes (tentatively titled Lost on Location, Freighter Folk, Transforming Hawaii, Gun Tracking and The Music of Lost) and more features TBA.

SO, 10 fewer Episodes and 2 fewer disks = The same price as the first 3 seasons...Ummm ok. I guess they know by now fans will pay whatever they want to charge for this show but still It would be nice it they were to lower the price another $10.
Cant wait for this though. This season is amazing even though I Have only seen a few full episodes this season and parts of some other eps. I like to wait and watch em all at once when the DVd box comes out cause it is in WS and looks great and it s too hard to wait a week by week with anticipation.

And people thought the shorter tv seasons would cost less.

14 episodes of Lost would only be $28 from the iTunes store. I'm sure I can find a cheapo AV cable for my iPod Touch on ebay too.

If you really want them in that low of a quality I guess that is a bargain. But you don't get any of the special features, not that I care much. I will stick with the BD once it goes on some sort of sale. S3 was on the cheap in a Gold Box deal so I will hope for the same again. In fact I paid under $40 for S3 with the 10% deal - I wish they would do that again.

I'd be surprised if we didn't see a price adjustment on this set before it arrives.

Hey, it's about quality here not quantity. These are solid episodes with some very good sounding extras.

Look at alot of BBC shows. For example MI-6 produces 8-10 episodes and those sets initially retailed for over $100, but now are still going for $60 and the production of that show from what I can tell is nowhere near as good as Lost.

BBC shows are a rip off. I swear they charge us the exact same prices as the shows would cost us if we just ordered them from the UK with current exchange rates. Yes, I understand "quality" and all, but we really are being gouged there because of the exchange rates, and that, my friend, is not "quality."

I don't think many fans of Lost will deny the quality of the show. However, the quality of season four did not increase so much that it demands to be priced the same as regular sized sets.

It all depends on the consumer. There are lots of people here who are more than happy to spend $39.99-$49.99 for 10-13 episodes of The Shield and not even question it and say the quality of the show makes it worth the price.

If you like the show and think it has replay value for you, then your going to spend the money without any questions asked. Yeah, we are spoiled with 22-24 episodes for 3 seasons now, but if your a Lost fan, spending the same money for 10 fewer episodes shouldn't be a detriment.

I thought they just struck a deal to do one more episode bringing the total to 15. Or was it originally 13 and the +1 makes it 14?

Those prices are just MSRP. I'm sure actual store prices will be substantially better. At any rate, this is a no brainer for me. Season 3 on Blu-ray was of exceptional quality and this actual season has been phenomenal. I'd buy it for that epic Desmond/Penny episode alone...

From what I understand it will be 14 episodes but episode #14 will be 2 hours long (or really like 82 minutes after commercials that is.)

No, the season finale will be episode 13 and 14. Originally the producers said they could complete 5 more episodes (8 pre-strike + 5 more= 13) However, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof wrote an excessively long script for the season finale and ABC went ahead and greenlighted 1 more episode, thus we are getting 14 total episodes, only 2 short of the original order.

As the news on the original post says, Buena Vista is focusing on new releases for Blu-Ray. Re-releases of past TV seasons on Blu-Ray will be left for next year at earliest.

Is the IMDB runned by monkeys? They reported this today:
About Those Full-Season DVDs During A Shortened Season...

The Walt Disney Co. seems to have solved the problem of how to release full-season DVDs of its most popular shows when the season has been shortened by a strike. The company's home-entertainment unit said Friday that the DVDs for this season's Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and Lost will include extended versions of the TV episodes and will include bonus features. Grey's Anatomy will carry the subtitle: "The Complete Fourth Season -- Expanded." It will hit the stores on Sept. 9. Private Practice will carry the subtitle: "The Complete First Season -- Extended" and will bow the following week. Lost, the show with the shortest unabbreviated title on TV, will be lengthily subtitled: "The Complete Fourth Season -- The Expanded Experience." It is due to be released on Dec. 9 and will include special segments that will unlock plot secrets, Disney said.
http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2008-04-28/

Ummm, wasn't season 2 of Lost also called the Extended Experience, while season 3 was the Unexplored Edition? And as far as I recall, all Lost seasons have included a load of extras. Really, either the PR at Buena Vista doesn't know how to put a spin of things or the writers at WENN are just plain imbeciles who don't do any research before writing such crap. The fact is that all BV strike shortened seasons are overpriced the same way Family Guy sets made after their return have been. They have less episodes, so they should have lower price. Period.

If it's too high of a price don't buy it. That's how this whole supply and demand thing works. If you buy, that's why you continue to see high and higher prices. Companies will push the pricing edge until they hit a point of resistance.
