Where's Blu Ray of Ashes of Time? That could get people converting to Blu Ray...

Actually Toddly, Ashes of Times is set to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival this year boasting a brand new, restored, print. So, I am assuming that it will be later on used for a proper release.

*It is tagged Ashes of Time-Redux and it is part of the "Special Screenings" series.

edit: to answer the above question, all previous BR discs have been region A.

Wow...so looking forward to these!!! I hope they send out the release dates soon.

Blu ray discs are still a small niche in Hong Kong but would hopefully get bigger. Was just there a month ago and the local stores only have them in two or three shelves.

As Tears Go By and Days of Being Wild are the only Wong films in Megastar's catalog. Mei Ah (who isn't supporting BD yet) has most of the others, including Ashes.

Hong Kong is Region A. Megastar's previous BDs were region-free, so there's a chance some or all of these might be too. Glad to see they're showing a real comittment to HD, they seemed to get cold feet after Infernal Affairs and Initial D (format war jitters?).

The two Wong Kar-Wai films are absolute musts. Too bad there's no actual release date.

I would imagine that Exiled and Assembly will look pretty amazing in BR, I was floored by some of the cinematography in Exiled in the theater.

I doubt HK companies will start coding their releases soon. They get too much business from international sales.

These releases are awesome. Can't wait to see Exiled in BR. The Warlords and Assembly will probably look amazing, as well. Can't wait for these!!

I'm a fan of Wong Kar Wai, but I've always heard bad things about Ashes of Time. I haven't actually seen it for myself yet, but the lackluster reviews I've read so far don't seem to bode well. Is it worth checking out in its current DVD form?

The current Ashes of Time DVD, if you can even find a copy, is one of the absolute worst discs ever produced in any region throughout the entire lifespan of DVDs.

So, uh, no, I'd avoid it. Ashes of Time Redux is premeiring shortly at Cannes and Sony will presumably be issuing a new DVD (and Blu-ray?) of the film in the next year.
