"Double Take" Double Features -- 6/10/08 (1975 Rollerball included)

I'm hopeful that one day MGM will announce an anamorphic, wide screen re-mastered version of Rollerball (1975). So I was intrigued when I discovered sixteen (16) interesting double features being released on June 10th. Rollerball is in the lot! Will MGM surprise me with a new mastering? Or will it be the same, ole 1998 pressing. Time will tell. But since these are priced at $19.98 (instead of inventory clearance pricing), maybe we'll see some new mastering among these titles.

These double features, for the most part, feature two versions of the same film: an earlier version and then a later remake. The DVD covers have consistent artwork: a blue background and are labeled "Double Take". (The artwork for the Anna and the King set is not up yet but it appears to be part of this series.) All of these double features retail for $19.98. DDD says these are two-disc sets.

Here's the list in case you see something that intrigues you as well!

"Double Take" series from MGM:
Amityville Horror . (1979/2005)
La Cage Aux Folles/Birdcage . (1978/1996)
Rollerball . (1975/2002)
Thomas Crown Affair . (1968/1999)

"Double Take" series from 20th Century Fox:
Anna and the King/Anna and the King of Siam . (1999/1946)
Bedazzled . (1967/2000)
Cheaper By the Dozen . (1950/2003)
Doctor ( Dr.) Dolittle . (1967/1998)
Flight of the Phoenix . (1965/2004)
Fly, The . (1958/1986)
Moulin Rouge! . (1952/2001)
My Friend Flicka / Flicka . (1943/2006)
Omen . (1976/2006)
Other / Good Son . (1972/1993)
Planet of the Apes . (1968/2001)

Here are some additional double features from the same studios also being released on June 10th. These are not part of the "Double Take" series. They retail for $14.98.

Other double features for 6/10/08:
All the Right Moves / Lucas . (20th Cen. Fox)
Bachelor Party/Revenge of the Nerds (special ed.) . (20th Cen. Fox)
Eddie and the Cruisers / Eddie and the Cruisers 2: Eddie Lives . (20th Cen. Fox)
Less Than Zero / Pick-up Artist . (20th Cen. Fox)

Short version: Links are fixed. (Sorry!)

Long version: There was an option that was checked: "Automatically parse links in text". When I copied my post into the Message box, my links were "parsed" with a bunch of stuff added into them. So they all failed. I unchecked the option and reposted the message and the links are as I intended. I suspect it has something to do with posting a link to DDD since I have posted other links and haven't had this problem. Since DDD is a partner or affiliate (or something) with DVDTalk, the message posting mechanism was trying to add some kind of tracking to my link. Now that it's fixed, the link posted is clean. The correct "parsing" now occurs when you press the link.

Confused? See "Short version" above!

I was just thinking maybe I only need to own Revenge of the Nerds 1 and I have always wanted to see Bachelor Party (regardless of how lame it probably is) so I will be nabbing that double feature if it really does include the new Revenge of the Nerds SE.

Additionally, given that they are two-disc sets, I wouldn't hold my breath for new masters.

Just remember the Vincent Price collection and the new Midnite Movies last year....same transfers as the original issues.

I'll let someone else review them before I repurchase them again.
