It's just Best Buy's way to get more cash from you.

I suspect that with each additional tier, they'll give you a card good for 5 free downloads or 5 downloads + 1 ringtone.

Looks to be included in the package, I don't know if that means in the ACTUAL case or in a separate sleeve a la cloverfield. Either way, with the $5 coupon in today's paper, a 3-disc golden compass for $17.99 ain't bad at all.

just got back from Best Buy and the extra disc on not ON the pack (like Cloverfield), so I'm assuming it's inside the case. There is a yellow Best Buy sticker on it that notes it as the 3-disc version and has a slipcover too.

Yup, the bonus dvd is inside the keep case. Best part is it's not in a sleeve at all, but held in it's on place inside the case.

Why they couldn't have done this for Cloverfield is puzzling to me.

Here's a warning to anyone still interested in Monty Python and the Holy Grail Extraordinarily Deluxe 3-Disc Edition - bring proof that it's 7.99. Apparently this was a mistake on Best Buy's part, because if you go to Best Buy's website and look the movie up, the 2-Disc Special Edition is $7.99 and the 3-Disc is $22.99. When I went to the store, it rang up as $22.99 and I had to price match it. If you look at the weekly ad online, and click on the picture for the Holy Grail (which shows the 3-Disc version), it says $7.99. Thankfully, the page that says $7.99 shows the SKU that corresponds with the 3-Disc version, so you should be able to use this to price match (it worked for me). Interestingly enough, when I went to the store today the $7.99 sign was on the 2-Disc version, even though it showed the SKU for the 3-Disc. You could probably use this to price match too. Just be aware that a price match will be necessary if you want to get the cheap price for the 3-Disc version, and as always your mileage may vary.

Here's a warning to anyone still interested in Monty Python and the Holy Grail Extraordinarily Deluxe 3-Disc Edition - bring proof that it's 7.99. Apparently this was a mistake on Best Buy's part, because if you go to Best Buy's website and look the movie up, the 2-Disc Special Edition is $7.99 and the 3-Disc is $22.99. When I went to the store, it rang up as $22.99 and I had to price match it. If you look at the weekly ad online, and click on the picture for the Holy Grail (which shows the 3-Disc version), it says $7.99. Thankfully, the page that says $7.99 shows the SKU that corresponds with the 3-Disc version, so you should be able to use this to price match (it worked for me). Interestingly enough, when I went to the store today the $7.99 sign was on the 2-Disc version, even though it showed the SKU for the 3-Disc. You could probably use this to price match too. Just be aware that a price match will be necessary if you want to get the cheap price for the 3-Disc version, and as always your mileage may vary.
Yeah, despite all that, they refused to honor the 3-disc version for me. (They offered the older SE version instead, but that one has a known mastering mistake and should now be avoided in favor of the newer version)

Looks like I was lucky. I'm sorry for everyone else's bad luck with price matching.

Last night I watched the new version for the first time, and the picture is nearly perfect. I don't remember how good the 2-disc version looked, but this one is amazing for a film that's over 30 years old.
