American Idol - Final 7 - April 15th & 16th - Mariah Carey

David Cook’s Ailing Brother Will Attend Idol Shows
April 14, 2008
American Idol contestant David Cook will have a very special guest in the audience Tuesday and Wednesday night — his brother Adam Cook. Adam, 36, is suffering from brain cancer.
A FOX spokesperson declined to comment, however a source close to the show confirms to PEOPLE that Adam will indeed be at the studio when his brother and the other top six Idol contestants perform songs from Mariah Carey’s catalogue.
Doctors initially told Adam, who lives Indiana, his condition was too delicate for him to fly commercially. But as news spread of Adam’s health and sadness over not being able to see David perform, friends rallied and were able to get him and his wife a chartered medical jet (and medical staff), as well as a hotel room during his trip.
According to a report from the Terre Haute News, Adam’s doctors gave him the go ahead to fly to Los Angeles with his wife, Kendra, to see David perform. The Board of Directors at Clarian Health in Indianapolis are paying for the medic, nurse and Leer jet transportation while a local Terre Haute radio station is paying for the Cooks’ hotel stay.
Kendra Cook told the paper that the week prior to learning about the trip, her husband had been in bed and not feeling well for “several days in a row,” but after learning of the trip, he seemed to be feeling better.
“The excitement of seeing his spirits lifted so high has been wonderful,” she said.

Tuesday: 1 hour show, 7pm CDT.
Wednesday: 1 hour results show, 8pm CDT.
So… who, if anybody, will be voted off on Thursday? The mentor tonight is Mariah Carey, whose new album e=mc2 comes out today. I do not know if it will be songs by Mariah Carey, or songs that inspired Mariah Carey.
And remember to vote for who you think will go home, not who you want to go home.
Neil Diamond will be releasing a new album on May 6th, "Home Before Dark". That will be the week of the Final 4, my guess is that he will mentor that week.

I've lost count of how many weeks in a row I've voted for KLC. May as well make it one more. I'm so tired of seeing that girl all bedazzled in her tank tops. "Kristy's seat" had better be in the bottom 3, with her singing us out to "Hero" or some other ghastly atrocity. America, please put her out of her misery!

If they cover Mariah's songs then Syesha, Carly, and Archuleta should do well tonight. KLC can by play the patriot card again by singing "Hero" and dedicating it to the troops. Jason, Brooke, and Cook are going to have to be creative with their choices because Mariah's song don't fit their strengths.
I'll say that Brooke will at least be in one of the hot seats on Wednesday.
EDIT: Renee and I are thinking the same thing with regards to Kristy.

Quote: Idol contestants perform songs from Mariah Carey’s catalogue.
I wondered if the Idol's would be singing her songs, songs that inspired her, or songs currently on the radio. I guess that clears it up. This should be an interesting show! Are their odds on how many bad high notes Carly can hit in one performance?
No matter how difficult the theme is for David Cook, he'll be safe after tonight's performance!
Mods- can we merge this with the poll for tonight's show?

My wife claims that she will no longer watch after Johns dismissal. We shall see.
However, his dismissal highlights one of the voting problems with this show - time zones and unlimited voting. I strongly feel that the judges should have more influence on the results through at least the top overall 6. Meaning that America votes the bottom three, and the judges can exert some influence. My ideas:
1) Judges can send one of the bottom three to safety. If that person happened to be the lowest vote getter, the lowest vote getter remaining goes home.
2) All three perform again, and the judges send one home.
3) The judges can exercise two "saves" a season, and if someone was supposed to go home, he remains until next week but all votes are retained and the TWO lowest vote getters go home.
Basically, I'm tired of seeing America send home quality singers ahead of less deserving ones (KLC I'm looking in your direction).

...which includes Def Leppard's "Bringin on the Heartbreak" and Journey's "Open Arms"
"Here doing a Def Leppard cover of Mariah's cover of Def Leppard.... David Cook!"

I saw that the 20 finalists for the songwriter competition have been announced. I know ... "This is My Now" was so epic that continuing the contest would only make all other songs pale by comparison. But they gave it their best shot. This year's finalists are:
- "Align" by James Smithson
- "All You Will Need" by Lauren Dion and Phil Minardi
- "Believe" by John Buchanan
- "Dream Big" by Emily Shackelton
- "Faith" by Zach Ziskin
- "Fly Me Away" by Scott Sheets
- "Here I Am" by Tom Kitt, Matt Zarley and Andy Zulla
- "In This Moment" by Ryan Gillmor
- "No Turning Back" by Luke Ebbin and Curt Schneider
- "Only Love" by Ken Stacey, Windy Wagner and David Walsh
- "Overcome" by Mark Holman
- "Something Like Heaven" by Aaron Sidwell
- "Stronger" by Jason Phelps and Mendy Shaw
- "Thank You Whatever Comes" by Fran Lucci, Danny Powers and Dara Stewart
- "The Time of My Life" by Regie Hamm
- "We're Gonna Make It" by Noel Cohen, Hugh Colocott and Amber Rhodes
- "When You Come From Nothing" by Will Hopkins
- "You Believe in Me" by David Barrett, Kurt Schreitmueller and Dan Yessian
- "You Believed in Me" by Perry Smith
- "You Can Do Anything" by Gail Farrell, Mark Gasbarro and Larry Kenton
Looking at these titles, I think the following emoticon says it best:

She's done a few famous covers so it gives them something to work with if someone doesn't want to do a MC song.
Without You
Against All Odds
I Still Believe
I don't think anyone's done MC's songs on the stage before. When asked about it, I think she said no one asked which I found surprising. The girls always break into a Whitney Houston song.

Isn't that a little harsh?
I don't think DC has a gun to his brother's head forcing him to be there.
I heard on the radio that he knows nothing about this.. it's a surprise. I find that a little hard to believe with all the media ... but who knows?
And maybe, this will be just what his brother needs. It might do wonders for his morale and well being.
