Columbia House ..Received someone elses' order

Hey guys,

Yesterday I checked my mail because I had been expecting my dvd from Columbiahouse, when i checked my mailbox, there were 2 packages in there. Both had my name and address on them. They were both the same movie, in which I had only ordered one, so I got to looking, and it turns out the other one is for somone else, and it had a different shipping label inside. My question is, do you think I should send this dvd back to Columbiahouse and let them send it to the guy it belongs to, or should I mail it to him, so he will get it faster? Also, has this ever happened to any of you? Thanks in advance.

you probably dont want to pay the shipping so you should ship it back to ch. Plus the person may have contacted ch for a replacement already.

I would just email (or call if that's your preference) CS with what happened and hope they "get it" the first time. I would only return the errant selection if they provide a pre-paid label. As someone else said, the person for who it was intended has/will contact them when it doesn't show.

They usually make you wait 4 weeks to make sure it doesn't show before I send a replacement.

I didn't get my Sweeney Todd from my order. The invoice had it and Newhart listed.

I've had my invoice go to another customer once. It was stuck to their's, still attached and folded. I guess the printed never cut the invoices. THe person sent the invoice to me with a note. They never got my DVD's. I had to call Columbiahouse for replacements.

I thought about that too but I was supposed to get 8 dvd's from that invoice. CH usually doesn't ship more than that in one box, so if they got mine they didnt get theirs. The way the invoice was folded and damaged it just appeared to be an invoice printing error, and the filler just didn't bother to notice 2 invoices were stuck together. If not the other person got some extra dvd's. I still got mine eventually so i'm not out any $.

If you have spare time, notify CH and if you want to be really nice, send a postcard to the customer who obviously didn't get his stuff to let him know he probably won't be getting it unless he complains. Otherwise, it is really not your responsibility to identify, notify, and correct CH's mistakes. But it would be nice.

This happened to me several times with CDs back when CH had a music club. At first I notified them. But when it kept happening, I changed my mind. I did not think it was up to me to spend my time helping them correct the error-prone nature of their invoicing/packing system. So the last few times I just kept the CDs.

Apparently their DVD shipping procedure is better, because this hasn't happened to me with DVDs at all.
