I've been buying lots of used DVDs from the two stores in my area. This seems to be pretty much the same type of deals, only the prices seem to be lower. Most of the $5.95 DVDs on the site are still $7.95 in the stores, most of the $7.95 DVDs are still $9.95 in the stores, etc...

In store they have a "buy 3 $7.95 DVDs and get them for $21", but with the $5 online coupon it seems to even out.

I just may have to try this online and save a trip to the store. I hope they're in as great condition online as they are in store. :)

Not sure if it's stackable, but here's a free shipping coupon: VD7GZUDR

'Course .99 shipping is pretty reasonable anyway.

Free shipping comes up as invalid or expired and knocked out the $5 off coupon.

My order:

1 x Mighty Heart DVD (USED) $5.95
1 x Ratatouille Widescreen DVD (USED) $5.95
1 x Resident Evil: Extinction DVD (USED) $5.95
1 x War Widescreen DVD (USED) $5.95
1 x Shoot 'Em Up DVD (USED) $5.95
1 x Hairspray Widescreen DVD (USED) $5.95
1 x Rescue Dawn DVD (USED) $5.95
1 x 3:10 to Yuma Widescreen DVD (USED) $5.95
1 x Sunshine DVD (USED) $5.95

Sub-Total: $53.55
99 Shipping (5-10 business days; USPS): $0.99
Coupon Discount: -$5.00
Total: $49.54

I usually wait for titles to hit the 4/$20 bins at HWV or BBV, so it would cost (w/tax) $47.70 to buy locally, but who knows how long it would take for this basket to become available? 20 cents more per disc is acceptable.

Thanks to the OP!

Like I said, if the condition of the used DVDs on the site are anywhere near as great as the used DVDs in the actual stores, you'll all be very happy.

If it's anything like buying new stuff, it shouldn't take long. I usually get my Family Video orders in 3-5 days or so. I know it sounds like I'm just bragging about the company, but I've dealt with them quite a few times, both online and in the stores.

I think I've ordered about 12-15 used titles from them on eBay in the past. I had no complaints. All came with artwork and case. Not sure about inserts, but probably. I think some of the discs had a ring around the center (small - not covering any artwork) and managed to remove them, but that was it. I ordered used discs last night and used the $5 off coupon. I think in the past it took maybe about a week to receive an order, but that was 1-2 at a time, that came via the post office. Don't know if they're going to use the post office or UPS, even if you select .99 cent shipping, they may choose whichever costs them less possibly.

Is there still a $5 off $5 coupon for new customers?

Whoever is in charge of their shipping needs to be sacked before they bankrupt the company. I've been getting a stream of confusing e-mails listing what has been invoiced and shipped and today's post brought an envelope with $1.81 in postage containing only Sunshine and another polybag wrapper with 3:10 to Yuma, Mighty Heart, and RE:E with $2.83 in postage. So far, they've spent $4.64 on less than half my order!

Other than a 3/4" sq. sticker on the case front and a small ring on the disc hub, everything looks like retail. The RE case was slightly cracked, but it had the ad insert. The discs look really clean. I was in BBV last night and most of the titles FV is selling for $5.95 are still $14.99, so I'm going to continue to patronize FV.com in the future, fo' sho'!

quoted for truth.. I placed an order for about 10 discs, and received 5 confusing emails... I haven't actually gotten the discs themselves, but their shipping is a bit rediculous!

Considering I order on a Thursday and half have arrived by the following Monday, I've got few complaints, but I would rather they wait a couple days to send the whole kit and kaboodle out in one box and save the postage as long as it allowed them to keep their prices down. Amazon does it that way.

I saw the $50 deal on the board here so I tried it
I ordered 4-11-08 7 dvds
Yesterday I got 4 dvds in 2 different unpadded mailers
on of the cases was chipped but the dvds were best than the used onces at blockbuster.

i think i might use them from now on

I got two of the ten yesterday I ordered, each in it's own unpadded envelope. They were fine, but each was shipped for $2 something in postage. If this continues, they'll have spent $20+ in postage. I think they need to update their system.

it's the launch of a new service.. maybe they are just overdoing it at first... ? yeah, its a bit odd.. evidently the 10 discs I ordered are coming in 6 different packages.

How are the used discs any different than new? I don't know, but someone could buy 3 new titles and they may very well do the same thing by shipping them individually. I think they've always sold a very select few used discs, and only recently I guess expanded to what they have now. I got 6 different "ship" emails so I guess I have 6 different packages coming too.

Received each movie in 3 seperate mailers. Two were in a bag mailer and the other movie was in a bubble mailer. All are in great condition. Cases are broken and chipped in areas.

Now to watch some movies :)

Also is anyone is interested I see they added The Mist. Reduced the price of I am Legend and Enchanted from $9.95 to $7.95.

What I noticed is that afetr 3 weeks of release dvd shows up for $9.99
1 week later it drops to $7.99
Then about 3 or 4 weeks later it goes down to $5.95

I received 5 more yesterday.

1 was in a yellow manila envelope that was folded over and taped. They hand wrote my address, and was another $1.80something in postage I think. They didn't bother to rip off the part of the invoice and tape it on. It had no return address.

Also received 4 more via UPS in a box. That probably cost them 4-5 bucks.

Two still outstanding.

Looks like for a $50 order or so (less the $5 coupon) they're spending close to $10 for shipping.

Pretty screwy.

The crazy shipping aside, what do you guys think of the actual product received?

my discs have been in good shape thus far, although one thing I noticed, is that if you have to return something to them, even if it is damage from shipping, you have to ship it back to them on your dime, and it is non-refundable. :(

Resident Evil and 3:10 to Yuma will not play smoothly on two different players (Sony & RCA) as both pause, skip ahead and back scenes, and some scenes turn into little squares. Both movies do however play through with no problems on the other two players (JVC & Sylvania). I cant figure out why that is.

I ordered "1408" widescreen... they sent me the fullscreen disc in the widescreen case. ugh... emailed them... we'll see how they handle this... since it is obviously their screw-up, I am not going to pay to ship it back to them...

I used the air in the can on one player and when that didn't help I cleaned resident evil with a damp rag and dried it. Played the disc on the cleaned player and it works. Tried the disc on the other player before I used the air and it played with no problems. It must have been some residue on the discs. Everything works now.

I'll track the progress of the order fulfillment and postage spent by updating this post. Buckle up!

Order placed Thursday, April 10th, in the morning:

A Mighty Heart
Ratatouille
Resident Evil: Extinction
War
Shoot 'Em Up
Hairspray
Rescue Dawn
3:10 to Yuma
Sunshine

Sub-Total: $53.55
99 Shipping (5-10 business days; USPS): $0.99

Total: $49.54

================

Delivered Monday, April 14:

Sunshine

Postage: $1.81

3:10 to Yuma
A Mighty Heart
Resident Evil: Extinction

Postage: $2.83

Total postage to date: $4.64

Notes: RE:E case was slightly cracked on bottom. Discs look fine.

================

Delivered Thursday, April 17:

Ratatouille
Shoot 'Em Up

Postage: $2.32

Total postage to date: $6.96

Notes: Both discs came with their cardboard sleeves and inserts. No sticker on the front of the case. Other than the hub label, these could've been retail from all appearances. This polybag was HAND-ADDRESSED with a marker, both my and their return addresses.

=================

Delivered Friday, April 18:

Rescue Dawn

Postage: $2.32

Total postage to date: $9.28

Notes: This one came with stickers on the front for the rental and purchase prices, so it's as if they took it off the shelf and mailed it to me. They way overpaid and the address was typed on a piece of paper poorly taped to the poly envelope. Disc isn't as clean as the others were, but OK for used.

=================

Delivered Thursday, April 24:

War
Hairspray

Postage: $2.32

Total postage to date: $11.60

Notes: War has light wear marks on disc. Hairspray came with all inserts (too bad the sweepstakes ended in Feb.), but the disc shows moderate wear and has a few fingerprints. It's probably the worst-looking disc of this order.

======================

Total time to receive all ordered titles: 14 days (10 business days)

Percentage of amount paid spent on shipping: 23.4% :suicide:

UPDATE:

Today in the mail came my widescreen copy of "1408".

Then, later in the day, via UPS I get a package:

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXX

Enclosed is your order for 1408 WIDESCREEN. Please accept these additional titles compliments of Family Video for your inconvenience. We hope you enjoy the films, and we look forward to doing business with you again.

Enclosed was:

Crash WIDESCREEN
Wolf Creek WIDESCREEN
Pulse WIDESCREEN
Tremors CE WIDESCREEN
and ANOTHER copy of
1408 WIDESCREEN

I already have Wolf Creek, Pulse, and Tremors CE (and obviously 1408), but thought that was mighty nice of them.

That's pretty awesome. I've had nothing but an excellent experience with them. Actually the 7 titles I've ordered online from them all arrived promptly and in close to new condition with no visible scratches or pesky stickers on the cases to remove. Actually the ones I've gotten online have been in much better shape than the ones I've picked up in stores, and they were always the correct aspect ratios I purchased too. So I'll definitely be using them again coupon or not.
