I had given up hope on this series around the time of Narcissus in Chains. The last book, Harlequin (i think that was the title), seemed to drop much of the gratuitous sex scenes and seemed much more like the early books. It piqued my interest in the series again.

Yeah the Anita Blake series had gotten bad.
I don't mind erotica at all but to see the series degenerate to that bummed me out. The Merry Gentry series started out more risque and i expected that and could deal with it. I felt the Anita Blake character though was being destroyed.
Hopefully she continues with the decent writing for this new one and doesn't make Blake the shallow succubus character she was becoming.

I completely agree with everything said. It went WAY too far into written porn. A little is nice and served the story but an entire book of it was boring and I almost gave up on the series too.
The last one was almost like sweeps week on TV. What I mean by that is almost all the characters from previous books made a "guest appearance". It started to get funny. Who's the next character to pop up?
And it was almost two hundred pages before the sex happened. I really enjoyed it and read the whole thing on my day off.
I have reserved high hopes for this one.
