Maybe they fixed that rear-speaker issue.

The 2007 one comes in a keepcase.

That's the only difference? Ok, no big deal to me. Thanks!

I recently re-watched this for the first time on my HDTV. Anyone else notice the Pq is pretty sub-par for a film this colorful and flashy? Is it supposed to be intentionally foggy like a 70's porno? I've listened to the commentary and read numerous trivia tidbits about the film, it's one of my favorites, but nothing mentioned the intended look of the film. This is a title that begs for an HD upgrade. Anyone else agree?

I never heard anything about the way the film was supposed to look. I absolutely love the film it was and still is my most watched DVD. I would kill for a Blu-ray release.

I noticed the picture quality feeling muted and spots of granularity. I recall reading an interview/collumn about that when the film first came out and that the intention was to have that 70's porn type quality to it. I think it truly gives the viewer that immersion and helps capture the situations.

The 2-disc remastered DVD looks almost identical to the old Criterion LD set (a bit sharper and more stable image) and a far cry from the single disc 1997 New Line DVD. As the Criterion laser was "director approved" I assume this is how Anderson wants the film to look.
