didn't see another thread, but i saw several Criterion releases at Costco, all marked $24.99. I saw The Ice Storm, Rolling Stones: Gimmer Shelter, and at least 5 or 6 others but the titles escape me right now =o(

Interesting, I've been wondering why Costco never seemed to carry Criterion stuff. The prices are on par with DVD Planet after tax... was hoping for a little more of discount, but this is an exciting development anyway... thanks for the heads-up.

The Ice Storm would be a worthy title to purchase, but since it doesn't street until 3/18, the Costco system won't allow you to purchase it until that day. This has happened to me on multiple occasions when I tried to buy a title that was put out early. Just an fyi...

I'll certainly be interested to see what other titles they may carry. Regardless, thanks for posting this info op!

Wow it's about time they got around to carrying Criterion's.
I hope they get The Last Emperor soon around my store.

I saw those too in SoCal. I also saw 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' and 'Ice Storm'

I saw the following at one of my local Costcos: Days of Heaven, The Third Man, Gimme Shelter, Night on Earth, Stranger Than Paradise, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Ace in the Hole and The Ice Storm. All pretty much essential for $24.99.

Dammit!!! They made The Ice Storm a Criterion?!

No wonder Circuit City was selling it so cheap in November!

Must get "Night on Earth"... I have most of the others on that list, but at that price, I'm considering upgrading "The Third Man". Might even get "Ice Storm", if I can...

No Criterions at my Costco, So. County, St. Louis. :( Hopefully they'll show up Tuesday when "Ice Storm" is supposed to street...

The only one I am looking for is Seven Samurai and I highly doubt they will have it.

Reading the posts here, it looks like people who saw the Criterions are in CA. Not surprising since we obviously have better taste than the rest of the US. ;)

Went ahead and picked up four titles today. They let me have "The Ice Storm" without incident, even though it doesn't street until next week. Of course, my nefarious plan to have the couple ahead of me in line spill their jar of Tiki Masala sauce on the floor helped distract my cashier...;)

Looks like there were two boxes of the Criterions on hand, each holding maybe 50 or so assorted copies. I only saw one copy of "Ace In The Hole" but a pretty good assortment of the others.

No copies in one Tampa Bay, Fl location (Brandon). I'm going back this week, so I'll check again.

For folks who aren't finding them at your local Costco, you may want to look in areas you normally wouldn't. At the Costco on Los Feliz Boulevard in Los Angeles, they were hidden between the CDs and the music-concert DVDs, far away from the normal movie DVDs, for some reason. (Maybe because "Gimme Shelter" is one the Criterions?)

TheMovieman

Well, none at mine (Eugene, OR). I also had looked through the CD section but didn't see it there either (though at the time, I was just browsing).

Nothing at the Folsom, CA, Costco. :(Did you try the one off of Exposition near the Arden Mall or up in Roseville? I know I've seen tons of obscure titles at the Rosville one on more than one occasion.

Is there a good time to go to the Los Feliz Blvd location? - a certain night perhaps? That place is always just insanely packed. As well as the Alhambra one.

Because of my work schedule, I often end up there around 5 p.m. or so during the week. It's a bit crowded, but manageable. The lines aren't too long and move fairly quickly around that time. I don't think there's any time that place isn't at least a bit crowded.

They had all the titles mentioned in this thread at Portland (NE) Costco. Stranger than Paradise, Night on Earth, Gimmie Shelter, Ice Storm, Fear and Loathing. Lots of each title. I don't think they'll sell out any time soon.

I don't even have a Costco membership. I'd love to go look, but I'm not paying their stupid member fees. I wonder if Sam's Club carries any of these.

What the hell...your basic membership to Sam's Club is $40, while Costco's is $50. Ten dollar's difference all of a sudden makes it a stupid fee?

Anyways, spotted some Criterions yesterday at the Costco in the Concord/Pleasant Hill area:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
The Ice Storm
Night on Earth
Stranger Than Paradise

I'm pretty sure there were a couple more titles, but those are the ones I could remember.

I was amazed to find these titles at the Honolulu Costco (Ala Kawa St.), since we usually don't get everything the bigger markets get. Unfortunately I already have the only title I'm interested in (Gimme Shelter), which i got last year for $10.00 when Tower was going out of business.

First of all I paid 30 for my membership at Sam's which would make it a 20 dollars difference. Secondly it's always been a stupid fee. Why would I want to buy a membership to Costco when I already have one at Sam's. It's essentially the same thing. At least to me it is.

I'm still trying to figure out why you think paying for access to Sam's Club is fine but doing the same for Costco is "stupid."

Amen! Just because you like Sam's, that doesn't make their membership fee somehow less "stupid" than Costco's!

None at mine either. My Costco has a larger underwear section than a dvd section. Really a shame.

We had a large display of dresses and tops until the middle of april. No one was looking, but a bunch were around the little squashed area of dvds, cds, & books. I just gave up. Didn't see any Criterion's or $9.99 tv box sets.

Seriously. It's not that important is it? I would prefer not to pay for either. Let's just leave it at that. Stupid for me. Maybe not so stupid for you.
