The Man from Planet X
Haunted Palace / Tower of London
Psych-Out / The Trip
Planet of the Vampires
Reptilicus
Sons of Kong: 10 Full-Length Movies on 3 DVDS (3D Pop-Up Case) FREE
Excellent! Lots of OOP titles that I didn't realize I needed, and two I've been looking for for a while... I'm going to have to come back to the site tomorrow to see what more they've got that I can't do without.

I never order from Oldies.com unless I call first and confirm the item is in stock.
I've ordered from them twice and have been disappointed each time.
The problem is that each time I ordered an item I really wanted and then added another item to my shopping cart just because it was cheap and looked interesting. Then, I actually received the non-important item in the mail but the DVD I really wanted was listed on back-order on my shipping receipt.
A couple of weeks later Oldies.com canceled my backorder and I got stuck paying the full shipping charge for both items (which they charge you when they ship your first item).
They seem to be a reputable company; just call them first for stock availability.

Exactly the same thing happened here, 'cept being in the UK, the charge for the two DVDs out of four I ordered (and yes, the two unavailable were the ones I really wanted - and one of them is still showing as being available for order), was just a few cents more than the cost of shipping. The other irritation was that it took over a week from the time my credit card was processed until they were shipped - they really should have sent me an email giving the option of cancelling, they had plenty of time.
I fired off an email to them and to their credit they give me a small refund, but TBH I don't feel like playing the Oldies lottery again.

Ordered 11 Midnite Movies for 69.10 shipped with the 10% off coupon - I'm happy! (my wife, not so much).Just ordered the exact same amount. My first splurge of the year. All Midnite Movies titles except for two - 'Dressed to Kill' and 'Burnt Offerings'. Not the rarest of titles, but they'd both been on my shopping list for a while.
I mostly picked up the Vincent Price double-features. They may show up again in another box set, but for $7 bucks a pop I took my chances. Hopefully they are all in stock, but I'll be happy if any of them show up. Great deals.
Thanks for those coupon codes - too bad I couldn't stack them and get that Kong set as well!

Yesterday I received a package I'd ordered on 3-5-08. Only two of the four I ordered were sent. (Yes, they were some of the OOP discs.) The others were on so-called backorder, but not likely to show up. It's unfortunate that up-dates to their on-line inventory are virtually non-existent. A couple of posters above mentioned the same issue, of course. The only way to tell before you receive your package is to check credit card charges. Oldies won't notify you, sending only an email that your order is on the way. And if you check your order at the website, it'll show the entire order. Pretty slipshod business operation. At least you won't spend the entire amount you charge at this place.

Update on my order from the 6th (which contained 12 MGM Midnite Movies): I got an email this morning stating that it shipped two days ago, the order status on the website has now been updated to state that everything shipped, but my credit card shows that I was only charged for 2 titles. We will see what I actually get, although their website still shows almost all the titles as still in stock for shipping in 1-3 days. At least they didn't charge me for shipping.
I doubt I will order from them again. I wish that more stores had the option provided by secondspin.com on checkout that allows you to choose to cancel the order if all the items aren't available to ship.

When you're buying long out-of-print discs for $7 each, you pretty much have to acknowledge that it's a crap shoot. I bought a few titles to fill the gaps in my MM collection, knowing that it was likely I wouldn't get all (or any) of them. As long as they're not charging me for discs I never receive, I'm not gonna sweat it.

In general, I agree - but since it is almost a week later and their website still says that the titles are in stock (and others have had issues with the stock status previously outside the scope of this OOP title sale), it isn't worth the hassle to me to blindly order stuff with no idea as to whether you will actually get it.

Although they won't charge you for discs you never receive, there's a chance they'll charge you the entire shipping amount.
Ordered 6 discs and only received two? Check your invoice when your package arrives and verify that they didn't charge you shipping for the entire order.

You're correct.
And if you look really closely when you receive your shipping statement you'll find a tiny little paragraph off to the side that states all items not shipped are considered backorders and all backorders will be canceled within a short period of time if they haven't been fulfilled (the exact length escapes me).

I called and they were incredulous at the idea of a charge over $50 being reduced incurring a shipping charge, so apparently *that* particular problem shouldn't happen--just multiplied shipping charges for under $50 apparently risks the charge being *still multiplied*...if I understand correctly.

I ordered The Haunted Palace/Tower Of London and the free Sons Of Kong from Oldies on March 11 for a total of $10.93 with shipping (first time I've ordered from them, by the way).
I received an e-mail confirmation of the order from them on the same day but since then had heard nothing.
The order has been showing as "Currently Being Processed" on my account page since the 11th, even though both items show as "Ready to Ship Immediately!"
Today I checked my cc account and I see that a charge of $3.95 from "Nina's Discount Oldies" was placed yesterday (03/17/08) - $3.95 of course is just the shipping charge for the order.
I've received no shipment notification from them and the order is still showing as being processed on my account.

Yeah, I guess so.
As I said, I'd never dealt with them before and was wary based on the comments I'd seen here, but I thought I'd give Oldies a try with a small order.
Now, I guess I'm stuck with a bunch of crappy public domain monkey movies for $3.95 that I didn't really want. I'll probably never see the DVD I really wanted (The Haunted Palace/Tower Of London).
And if it is ever shipped, I guess I would be charged an additional $3.95 for shipping.
The heck of it is that when I placed the order there were two choices offered on the order page in the event an item was backordered: "Ship As Single Package" (i.e. ship together when all items are available) or "Ship In Multiple Packages" (i.e. ship items as they become available, even though additional postage may be required).
I chose "Ship As Single Package" - so much for obeying the customer's instructions!
I've still heard nothing else from them about what is going on with my order. All I know is that my cc has been charged only $3.95.
The order still shows as "Currently Being Processed" on my account page (as it has since the 11th). Both items show on my account as "Ready to Ship Immediately!"
The Haunted Palace/Tower Of London is still showing as available for purchase on the website - why are they still taking orders for something they obviously no longer have in stock and telling those who do place an order that it is "Ready to Ship Immediately"?

Actually, I placed two orders with them over the last few weeks. The first order was for all of the OOP Midnight Movies that I didn't already own - about 7 or 8 titles. I received that one with all of my ordered titles intact.
I put in a second order about a week later, comprised of a dozen other (non-OOP) Fox/MGM sales titles. I received that one yesterday, but three titles were not included - all Fox Film Noirs. Now I'm not sure if these are just on backorder and will be shipped later, or they will never be shipped. Since Oldies.com has such a poor system of tracking such status, for all I know these (readily available anywhere else) items are just in limbo.
All things considered, my experience ordering from them wasn't bad, but they do need to improve their order status information quite a bit to be more customer friendly.

I only received the 2 DVDs from my Oldies order that weren't Midnite Movies.
I actually placed another order with them for a few extra titles after I saw the first charge was so small. I haven't checked my account yet, but the tracking info states that the second order (7 items) weighs about twice what the first one did. Considering my second order includes the free 'Son of Kong' set, I'll be lucky to get 5 out of the 18 DVDs I ordered from these folks.
Still happy about the price (and the fact I got free shipping on both orders), but they have to update their inventory system or they will certainly lose repeat business.

I ordered 11 midnite movies and used the code to get 10% off and free shipping. Here's what I got:
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Deranger / Motel Hell (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Voodoo Island / The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Strange Invaders / Invaders from Mars (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Mini-Skirt Mob / Chrome and Hot Leather (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Masque of the Red Death / The Premature Burial (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Empire of the Ants / Tentacles (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Haunted Palace / Tower of London (DVD)
Here's what I'm still waiting for:
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Countess Dracula / The Vampire Lovers (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Invisible Invaders / Journey to the Seventh Planet (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: The Oblong Box / Scream and Scream Again (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Cry of the Banshee / Murders in the Rue Morgue (DVD)
Perfect condition, no slashed UPC's, no floaters. They honored the 10% discount and free shipping on the partial shipment, so I got these at 6.28 each. I have no reason to believe the backorder will not ship. Their b/o, email and invoicing could be a little better, but so far I got what I paid for and will not hesitate to use Oldies again.

what you guys mean by "floaters"
Chad
03-23-08, 02:16 PM
It has two meanings:
1. Liquid filled DVD covers (http://www.hirschusa.com/htmls/dvd_cover_pocket.htm)
2. The DVD has become detached (probably in transit) from its stub and is "floating" around freely inside the case, which usually results in a scratched disc.
Of course they're referring to the latter.

How can you tell if you're getting any of the backordered titles -- do they update the website with more tracking info, etc.? I only received a couple of the titles I ordered today.
Apparently they don't give any kind of notification about this. Today I actually quite surprisingly received the rest of my apparently backordered titles (referenced in my prior post a page or so ago in this thread) that I didn't get in my last order from Oldies.com. This was just out of the clear blue, as they never sent me an email mentioning that they were shipping the rest of the order, or indicated anything on my order status page on their website.
So those of you with backordered parts of your order may actually still get the remaining items you ordered. Of course, that's no guarantee if the stuff you ordered is OOP. The three DVD's I received today are all still in print - all Fox Film Noir sales titles.
While I was pleased that they sent the rest of my order, I was disappointed that one of the DVD's appeared to be a used copy, or at the very least a return. The security stickers were missing, the cover art was pretty tattered looking, and the disk itself appeared to have some wear scratches on it. And I know the case had to have been previously opened at some point by Oldies.com, as there was actually an Oldies.com survey card enclosed, which of course wouldn't have been put in there at the Fox factory. I was not pleased about this, but I guess I'll keep it anyway as who knows how difficult it might be to process a return to Oldies.com.
So my guess is that these Fox/MGM sales titles must be inventory returns from some other merchant that Oldies is clearancing. Perhaps some of them are customer returns or damaged stock, as the one I received today apparently was. Anyway, just a word to the wise to check any disks you get from them if they appear to be missing security stickers.

They don't have any OOP midnite movies. All the midnite movies they have are new releases or re-releases of old versions. They just charged my CC for 2 movies which is $ 12.XX . No email ,no call, no warning. I called them and asked about it. They told me they are going to be shipping and charging my CC for movies they send till my order is completed. 2 shipped movies are: Man from Planet X, The and Reptilicus . You can order from Amazon for about $11 each(it is still a better deal $7 each midnite movie from oldies.com). I guess as they receive re-release of OOP midnite movies, they will be shipping out the rest of our orders.

A great movie, unfortunately the quality is atrocious! Picture drops out and freezes up about 30 minutes into the film making it impossible to continue. It's obvious that this is a pirated movie transfered poorly to DVD. Do not waste your money on this disc. Order the used one that was produced from a reputable company!

These are pirated copies. They come in a regular dvd case, but the jackets are color photocopies of an old poster. The discs have a home printed color label. They are on burnable discs. When I put it into my dvd player they load a computer menu. The movie has been burned off of an old vhs tape. Quality is horrible. It's clearly not a digital version. I returned it for a replacement copy and was sent the exact same thing. To my knowledge this movie has only been released on dvd through the "MGM Presents Midnite Movies" label. In short if there isn't a product picture don't buy it.

Well, I have no interest in this title, but I must say this is very bizarre for amazon to be selling this. I looked up the movie on their site and there are two releases listed; the first (only available from third parties) is the MGM one, and the second (the one with all these bad reviews) has "na" next to "Studio" in the product information. This bad disc can indeed be bought through amazon's own link.
Of course, a marketplace seller could be selling burned movies, but why would amazon? Are these copies even legal? Where are they getting them from?

^I've seen other titles on amazon like this. I don't think they are truly aware or actually care in spite of the reviews/notices on all of the titles like this I've seen. Some reviewers have indicated that they've notified amazon that the title offered is a bootleg/pirated version. It makes you wonder how someone convinced amazon they were on the "up and up" since you would think there would be some sort of "review commitee" process before a product is sold by amazon proper.

I got the two Fox Film Noir titles that were missing from my original order yesterday ("Whirlpool" and something with "House" in the title). It was a nice surprise, since when I've ordered from them in the past and something was out of stock, it was just too bad for you. Still no Midnite Movies, and I don't expect them.
I did get someone else's invoice in the envelope - a guy in Corpus Christi who ordered a whole bunch of stuff. Most likely, someone else got my invoice. There were no Credit card #s or SSN on it, so it's not a big deal, but I hate to see that sort of sloppiness. This is my fourth or fifth order from Oldies and I always use the "one-time use" credit card numbers. They really need to get their feces coagulated and get a better inventory/ordering system and drop the paper catalog, which is obsolete before the ink is dry.

The disc that is getting all the negative feedback is not being offered by marketplace sellers. There are no marketplace sellers listed on the product page for that disc, just amazon.com's standard "add to cart" link.
Check it out; it comes up with an $11.95 price. Amazon.com themselves are selling this. Apparently, this is not the first time amazon has done this, but it's the first time I've heard of it, hence my questions above.

Same here. Except it arrived the day before yesterday and my shipment contained Planet of the Vampires, Reptilicus and The Man From Planet X. I'm still waiting on Psych-Out / The Trip, which is the final item.

Man, am I confused.
If I go to Oldies.com right now, see a bunch of stuff that's showing as "in stock" that I want, and I drop them in my cart ---- what next? Do I order, do I put it on hold and call them to see if they're really in stock (and if so, what phone #?), or do I do something else?

The main thing you need to be aware of is that not all of your items will ship regardless of their listed stock status, so if what does ship doesn't meet the free shipping limit, you may be charged shipping.

:confused:If you don't prefer the wait-and-see approach, their customer service number is 1-800-336-4627.
I ordered "Planet of the Vampires" and a couple others people reported receiving. If they did get additional inventory, it must have been limited. Ordered on 3/11 - as of today I haven't been charged for additional titles. Three of them are still in-print, I don't know why it's so difficult to restock after a month.
Since it's been 30 days, I assume all my backordered items were cancelled? I might try ordering a couple from Hamilton - but I'll be calling Oldies first. I don't want any surprises in my mailbox afterward.

Not true.
If your ORDER exceeds it, you get free shipping--period, regardless of stock status.
However, if nothing in your order is in stock, is not free shipping qualified and you do the kong set or something, you WILL be charged full shipping for only the free kong set.

Read the full thread - it has happened previously (including to me on a prior order). Some recent orders may not have had this problem, but it is enough of a hassle (along with their invalid stock status) for me to do business elsewhere.

Dude, you might want to take your own advice. Since it is so dang slow at work this morning, I read the whole thread. There is not one post of anyone who ordered at free shipping threshhold being charged for shipping. You even mentioned you did not get charged shipping on your partial order.

I think you misread that post. He bought 2 items which would be under the $50 free shipping threshold. He got charged the full shipping and only got the item he didn't want. That's what he was complaining about. If you got charged shipping when it was supposed to be free, all you have to do is call them up and tell them to refund you.

Well, against my better judgment, I ordered from this place...no midnite movies; I got swayed by their $5 for $25 CDs. A lot of these appear to be OOP titles from Sony/BMG labels. Some are out of stock on a lot of other web sites, so I ordered 10 titles for $50 and free shipping. Ordered them almost a week ago and still no shipment. I know they don't give real time inventory status, but if they did actually have these in stock, by the time they get around to shipping my order, I'll probably get two CDs or something, like people are getting with their midnite movie orders.
Oh well...my credit card has not been charged for anything, so can't hurt to wait.

If anyone wanted something that showed up as SOLD OUT a couple weeks ago, you might want to re-check. I had 10 unshipped Midnite Movies in my order. As of today 8 of them are listed as back in stock on the Oldies website.
Since it's been over 30 days, I'm not counting on anything showing up - and nothing has been billed to me so far.

I made an order when this thread first started. I only had two dvds on my order, the first of which was Motel Hell/Deranged, and that shipped pretty quickly. The second was Psych-Out/The Trip, and I just noticed the second charge on my card from Nina's this weekend.

Got an e-mail from them that my CD order shipped. Checked my credit card statement online, and the charge is for $30. So that means four of my titles didn't ship.
Now I get to play the fun game that everyone else is playing of placing bets on which ones won't be in the box when it arrives, since they don't tell you in the e-mail what they sent, like every other web site on earth does.

1.0 out of 5 stars A CHEAP DVD-R!!! DO NOT ORDER THIS!!!, February 9, 2008
By TFH (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
I thought that AMAZON had some kind of quality control...apparently not! This is a cheap DVD-R that somebody burned! Not to mention that mine was cracked when I received it! IMMDEDIATELY returned it to Amazon & got my money back.
What a dissapointment and what a hassle . . .Avoid this at all costs!
1.0 out of 5 stars A disastrous attempt, January 1, 2008
By Cuban Pete (Wyandotte, MI United States) - See all my reviews
A great movie, unfortunately the quality is atrocious! Picture drops out and freezes up about 30 minutes into the film making it impossible to continue. It's obvious that this is a pirated movie transfered poorly to DVD. Do not waste your money on this disc. Order the used one that was produced from a reputable company!
1.0 out of 5 stars pirate copies don't bother, December 31, 2007
By J. Stepp - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
These are pirated copies. They come in a regular dvd case, but the jackets are color photocopies of an old poster. The discs have a home printed color label. They are on burnable discs. When I put it into my dvd player they load a computer menu. The movie has been burned off of an old vhs tape. Quality is horrible. It's clearly not a digital version. I returned it for a replacement copy and was sent the exact same thing. To my knowledge this movie has only been released on dvd through the "MGM Presents Midnite Movies" label. In short if there isn't a product picture don't buy it.
The photo representing these reviews are obviously not from the same DVD. The photo is a user submitted photo which only confuses the matter as in the info, it says "Studio: na". Its less Amazon's determination for quality control and more of how these grey market DVDs get their products into retail markets.

Well I couldn't resist taking the plunge (thanks to the poster of the 10% off coupon). 4 of them were the MGM DVDs.
If they are indeed in stock, they have several Anchor Bay/Elite cult horror box sets that are a BARGAIN:
Thanks for the tip. Those two Aussie collections pushed me over the top. Of my order, I'd be happy to get any of the following:
Aussie Horror Collection, Volume 1
Aussie Horror Collection, Volume 2
Comedy of Terrors / The Raven
Countess Dracula / The Vampire Lovers
Cry of the Banshee / Murders in the Rue Morgue
Donovan's Brain
Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine
Haunted Palace / Tower of London
Invisible Invaders / Journey to the Seventh Planet
Muscle Beach Party / Ski Party
Planet of the Vampires
Psych-Out / The Trip
Reptilicus
The Man from Planet X
The Oblong Box / Scream and Scream Again
X: The Man With The X-Ray Eyes

As early as Monday I hadn't seen any new charges from Oldies, so imagine my surprise when I found a big yellow envelope inside my storm door this afternoon.
Here's what was shipped to me for those still waiting:
Island of Dr. Moreau
Planet of the Vampires
Oblong Box/Scream and Scream Again
Cry of the Banshee/Murders in the Rue Morgue
Haunted Palace/Tower of London
Countess Dracula/Vampire Lovers
NOT INCLUDED:
Comedy of Terrors/The Raven
Masque of Red Death/Premature Burial
Attack of the Puppet People/Village of the Giants
Voodoo Island/Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake
And for anyone wondering if these are new pressings: 3 of them had stickers on the front advertising a rebate that expired in 2003. I can only speculate these were from some newly discovered inventory MGM had lying around.

My initial order that shipped March 14th was:
Lifeboat (Special Edition) (DVD)
Midnite Movies Double Feature: Strange Invaders / Invaders from Mars (DVD)
Sons of Kong: 10 Full-Length Movies on 3 DVDS (3D Pop-Up Case) (DVD)
The Thin Blue Line (DVD)
Vanishing Point (U.S. and U.K. Versions) (Widescreen) (DVD)
and I finally got Psych-Out/The Trip April 25th! Is MGM re-pressing these?

I also just received a brand new "used" copy of Masque of Red Death/ Premature Burial $10 from Wherehouse.com (Secondspin also has it).
