I'm about to jump on this deal, here's the math on this account:
Code:801586
Marilyn Monroe 80Th Anniversary Collection $29.97
Bee Movie Jerry's 2-Disc Edition (Pre-Order) Free
Close Encounters of the Third Kind 30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition $23.97
Fullmetal Alchemist: Volume 1 - the Curse (Uncut) Free
-------
$53.94+$12.89=$66.83-$48.00(10x$4.80 incl. CETK)=$18.83(Marilyn set)/6=$3.14ea.
Also a great time to pick up Twin Peaks Gold set if you don't have it yet. The math for that set works out to be $39.80 for the set and $4.80 each for 8 regular dvds (1 of which can be a criterion or something else very expensive). Even better if you had signed up for a 6/3 account instead of a 7/2.

I'm gonna go the Columbo route. All seasons are 23.97 except the first. Pretty much the cheapest price I've seen anywhere, used or new.
Also, Battlestar Galactica sets are good prices. $29.99 for Season 2.0, 2.5...
(I got Season 1 through my TV club enrollment!)

Also Film Noir Classic Collection: Volume 3 is $24.95 in the clearance section. They've already ran OOS of the Volume 1 and 2 collections, looks like these aren't coming back, which I guess explains why they never got Volume 4. :(

It depends on what you want more, but here is some math to help you decide.
Tax is not included, so you may have to factor that in...
Using pretty much the same example as I used for my order above...treating the Columbo set as a regular item (I only did this in my order because I don't consider CETK a set as CH does. It's a glorified SE.)
BattleStar Galactica $29.97
Any regular priced title Free (up to $34.95 incl. Criterions)
Columbo $23.97
Any regular priced title Free (up to $34.95 incl. Criterions)
-------
$53.94+$12.89=$66.83-$48.00(10x$4.80 incl. Columbo)=$18.83(Galactica)
OR (treating Columbo as a set as it should be)
$53.94+$12.89=$66.83-$43.20(9x$4.80)=$23.63/2=$11.82 per set
...OR getting multiple Columbo sets in the same order...
Columbo $23.97
Any regular priced title Free (up to $34.95 incl. Criterions)
Columbo $23.97
Any regular priced title Free (up to $34.95 incl. Criterions)
4.95 title (clearance or DOTD, etc.) (need something cheap to get over $50)
-------
$52.89+$12.89=$65.78-$48.00(10x$4.80)=$17.78/2=$8.89 per set
OR with a $5.95 title instead of $4.95
$53.89+$12.89=$66.78-$48.00(10x$4.80)=$18.78/2=$9.39 per set

Picked up 2 copies of 'I Am Legend' SE and 'American Gangster' SE, as well as 'Bee Movie' SE and 'The Mist' SE for a shade under $70.
I had returned one of the offers via mail with a crappy fulfillment, so this came at a good time I guess. The average isn't he best, but it'll work.
The extra copy of 'I Am Legend' and 'American Gangster' are going to my brother

It's too bad that the Blu-Ray freebie deal from last week isn't still active with this free shipping offer. You can still take a BR as the paid part of the BOGO. A good BR to take as the paid part of an order is the Blade Runner set. CH considers this title as a set and the shipping would usually be $7.99.

801586 is a normal B1G1 code (G1 is for regular dvds only). There are no current codes for B1G1 with HD/BD, that sale ended sometime last week.
So, as SBJ said, use a BD title for a qualifier and get a regular dvd free. If I was a BD man, I'd have gotten Blade Runner myself. Too bad CH never got the regular HD set, or I would've bought that.

I know what you're saying. I've found that the BOGO rarely works with the sub-$20 sets when the BOGO code is a "multiple" BOGO code. If it's a single BOGO w/60% off type code that's when you can usually have the most success.

This works with some codes and not with others. Some codes work with the "clearance" titles that have a regular price of $19.95 or more but not others. No rhyme or reason. All you can do is give it a try and see.

Interesting. I'll have to pay a bit closer attention in the future to check this out. If that is the case it'll make it easier than trial and error with all the active BOGO codes.
* if you're like me and cycle accounts frequently, now is a good time to pick up one of those cheap 'sets' to push you over $50 and you won't have to pay shipping on the set.

I actually might use this on an unfulfilled account. You can use offers more than once right? i.e. I would use B1G1 and then load up a lot of $3.18 - $3.98 60% off titles to get it just over $50 then place the order. Then do it all over again w/ a second order which would then fulfill the account. Would work out to getting ~27 DVDs for an average around $4.50 for this account.
That should work right?
Might not be good for those of you who have been cycling through accounts for a while, but I already have one +$50 order w/ just $3.18 titles that I wanted but haven't acquired yet. I'm sure I can get another batch from the $3.98 pile for order #2.

I know this is a bit off topic, but how long do you think it would take for them to confirm a new account? I want to make one and then take advantage of this offer to immediately fulfill the account with something I know that I want to order. Do you think it will go in quick enough to allow that? I've never had an account of my own with Columbia House before.
chris_sc77

It usually takes at least a few days from once you put in the application from when they send you confirmation and account info. And this current sale ends tomorrow if I am not mistaken so you probably are not going to be able to take advantage of this offer.
However it is still definitely worth it to join columbiahouse. The deals are can really be unbelievable sometimes.

That'll never happen, you waited too long. The name of the game with CH is patience, but it's totally worth it. It'll take at least a couple days before you can confirm a new account, and joining over the weekend isn't going to speed things up.
But there are always good deals to come, even w/o free shipping on sets, so just join and wait. In the meantime you'll have 7 dvds to enjoy. Free Shipping on sets are the rarest of offers, but they have been showing up occasionally lately. It's hard to say when there will be another one, it could be a month, it could be 6 months. They usually have a couple of those a year though, you just have to be ready for it.
With CH, you can't have the mentality of waiting for a good offer to come around before opening a new account to take advantage of it. You should have the account opened before a deal shows up, so you are ready to pounce and take advantage of it.
For more CH info, ask questions in the "Questions..." thread. Welcome to the madness!

I placed another order. I'm going to be close to broke now. I probably shouldn't have made another order but I really wanted all of these titles, and with the sale... well... it was already the best price on the Alfred Hitchcock collection that I could find. Would anyone else call my order a "good deal"? I hope I made the right decision, Really... He's one of my favorite film-makers and I've been putting off buying this set. It has fourteen of his movies. Technically, including Southland Tales and The Mist - Special Edition, it all comes down to $5 a movie for this order. I guess thats not too bad.

Anyway, not a bad deal, but not great either. Looks like $5.07 each if you don't include tax. But really you still paid about $71 for the Hitch set, which is actually pretty good, but you could've done much better with an optimized account, or even a few dollars better waiting for the 20% off DD sale in June, but of course you would've had to wait too.

Yeah, my sister has an account. I helped her fulfill it at least. I think the deal I got is still pretty good overall. I'm making an account for myself later this week but I wanted to get the Alfred Hitchcock set pretty bad. It's still the cheapest way to get the movies. Unless, like you said - it's cheaper with the DD sale in June. But if that would have only saved me a couple of bucks it's not a big deal. Especially since I wanted the other two movies and they are both new releases. It would have cost me $132 on Amazon.com. Essentially, I feel like the Mist and Southland Tales were free... and since they are both Pre-Orders that seems like a good enough deal.
Of course, I'm still trying to justify this to myself. I dunno. I love almost every Alfred Hitchcock movie in that set and at $5 a piece I'd buy them in the store so I can't feel that bad about it. I mean - most of them are $15 to $17 for the individual releases and you can't get Psycho and Vertigo in Anamorphic Widescreen that way. HD releases in the future or not, they won't be $5 on their own.
Anyway, thanks for your opinion Basaro. You've been a big help to me on DVDTalk (creating this thread, your Big Lots updates, the trading you did with me). I really appreciate it.
I probably shouldn't have allowed myself to spend as much money as I did but I think I'll be alright. I can now feel better about not just having North by Northwest on my DVD shelf as representation of my Alfred Hitchcock fan-dom. He's been one of my favorite film-makers since I was a little kid.
I hope this sale is extended through tomorrow though as I really wanted to order Battlestar Galactica: Season 3. If not, I'll order that to help fulfill my account once I've created one. Either way, I need to slow down and not buy any DVD's for the next couple of months. Seriously. Wish me luck on that one!
I have indeed welcomed myself to the madness (as if I hadn't before by joining this forum!).

I'll just sell my Sailor Moon SuperS set to make up for that order. That will get me $100 easily and make my expense $0. I had to write this here to make sure I don't back out of doing this. Sorry everyone. =P
