Ok, I read over at slickdeals.net that if you buy a pc/laptop and ask to sign up for internet, you save 100 dollars off of your computer purchase. Then they said you can leave and cancel the internet service but still get the 100 dollars off. Does this really work and if so, how?

Does best buy charge you right there for the internet service or do they just take down your info so a internet service provider rep can call you and set it up?

Thanks

It's probably something along the lines of what they did years ago where you have to sign up for AOL or something. If it's like that, you actually sign a contract and there's a termination fee. Your best bet would probably be to just go in and ask because it could very well be something different.

They'd probably ban him for asking such a simple question. Bunch of assholes over there, if you ask me.

It's an old trick. When you buy a service plan from BBY, they take the price of the service plan off of your ITEM and charge you in full for the plan. Because by law, you have three days to cancel a service contract (you could probably argue that BBY gives you 30, but you have at least 3), you can return the plan to BBY, who refunds you the full cost, leaving the reduced item cost unchanged.

BBY knows about this and often requires that the item also be returned and repurchased at full price.

Best Buy stock symbol.

Really? What's the point of using a company's stock symbol as an abbreviation?!? Are we really that needy to appear cool? :)

It's to keep from confusing with Blockbuster

BBY=Best Buy
BBV=Blockbuster Video

Have people forgotten how to abbreviate things?

BB = Best Buy
BV = Blockbuster video

2 letter each. Not confusing in the least.

Blockbuster stores around here dropped the 'video' in their name a long time ago :shrug:

YMMV
